A sweet, attractive independent bookstore on a beautiful island, where you might meet a handsome stranger, a dastardly murderer, or even a handsome stranger who turns out to be a dastardly murderer. I spent a few hours on Bainbridge Island during a family trip to Seattle, and we enjoyed a leisurely browse at this bookstore. It was well stocked with books of every genre, as well as a strong selection of gifts and toys. My Seattle friend told me Eagle Harbor had carried my book, at least when it first came out, so I forgave them for no longer having it on the shelves six years later. I was very happy to see my friends Kara Loo and Jennifer Young's novel in the romance section. It's their first book, and I think it's a good sign that the store stocks new releases by debut writers. I really just love a good bookstore, and being in Eagle Harbor Book Company made me happy, even as my children demanded I buy them every colorful thing that entered their field of vision. I'd be a regular if I lived on the island. I could rent a space next door and start solving crimes.

It was there that I discovered Grace Young whose Chinese cookbooks changed my stir-fry life, making me a far better cook. We've found quality books on baking, panini recipes, pressure cooker cooking, and yesterday we scored by finding a couple of great air fryer cookbooks. And there are gems to be found among the discounted book shelves. My wife found one of our new air fryer books there, and I found deals on closeouts for rare Monty Python and Beatles books. Whenever I've needed assistance the associates at the customer service desks have been great. With the cashiers some have been more friendly than others but all are quick and professional. We've had a membership card for years and have taken advantage of the price discounts and free shipping to our home for online purchases. This is yet another chain store for which we're grateful that it's still open for business in the county. I never want to see online booksellers ever replace brick-and-mortar bookstores where you can roam around the shelves, find interesting books and hold them in your hands while turning the pages. That's the only real way to decide if a book is right for you or not.

Very quiet inside and no one bothers you, so it's a nice time to browse through everything. Books are pretty decently priced. Most of the children's books I've never paid more than $5. As for the adult books when I browsed through, I saw them going for $7+ which isn't terrible at all. The price is written in pencil on the first page if you're looking for it.

The bookstore space itself is not altogether unpleasant, and you can definitely tell that the owners are attempting to add more inventory and character. I was also disappointed to find that a book I ordered from the store (because they didn't have it in stock), was not available for pick-up at the time the store owner communicated it would be - and was actually on back order - leaving me in the lurch for a course assignment which required the book. Since I had to call them (versus them contacting me) to find out this information, my already conflicted feelings about the store were certainly not improved. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with my initial experiences with this bookstore, but I am still glad the option exists (and I'm hopeful it will improve with time). My wife browsed the store while I bought the book and chatted with Terry. This is a great little shop. My wife and I love to support local businesses. We are so glad that there's a local bookstore we can now buy from instead of buying books off Amazon or bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble.
