He was trying to figure out the run pattern and where the wiring actually was. They are the only electrician I have used and they have also been great with my clients I recommended them too (I'm a realtor and know many tradespeople). As with anything on here, ymmv, but I don't think it's fair to hit a small family-owned business (at least two generations, maybe three) for something just because you don't understand the specifics of what they are doing. They treat their people well, do great work, and I'm having them back to my house in a few days to give me a quote for removing all of the knob and tube. Isn't that what's supposed to matter? I talked with the technician and explained that I needed a service call because I couldn't figure it out. He gives me a friendly suggestion to look for a "hidden" second GFCI, and voila there it is. I reset the 2nd one, and all is well. Point of the story is that they could have just scheduled a service call, but they were friendly enough to help me figure out the problem without me needing to wait (and pay the-stupid-tax for an obvious problem that wasn't really a problem - I won't deny it). Sure, they have better things to do than make an "idiot" call that can be fixed in 30 seconds. Nonetheless, I consider the fact that they gave me their advice "great".
