This review is not about Vernon's at all, it's about the restaurant, the Tipsy Kitchen in Vernon's. You seriously need to go there TODAY to get some great food. I first fell in love with The Tipsy Kitchen when I had their White Chocolate Mistress about a couple of months ago. Y'all! Seriously! So good. It's like a shortbread cookie/brownie combo, some say cookie, some say brownie, I say it's just yummy. Anywho, it has a base of magic yummyness and a thin layer of a raspberry compote and it is topped with the thinnest of slivered almonds. When I have them, I eat it in the morning with coffee. It's the best. Now, running neck and neck for first place of best dessert ever against the White Chocolate Mistress, is the Guinness Car Bomb Cake. Y'ALL!!!!!!!! For Pity's sake! So darn good. Killing me. I do not know how they do it, but yeah.... they do it. It is some kind of baking sorcery. I'm almost certain of it. Their baked goods may be the star of the show, but their food is really good. I am not kidding. The burger and fries are so tasty. The burger actually comes with chips, but I ordered it with fries. HOWEVER, I can see why it comes with a bag of chips instead. After eating the burger, I had no room for the fries. I had pulled a pelican -- you know, where the pouch holds more than the belly can. Another thing they do very well is the home cooking. About a couple of weeks or so ago, I went to V to have a pint and a loungey chat with some friends and then the plan was for me to just go home, have my nightly yogurt and get ready for bed. Well, that didn't happen. When I got there, I met an old friend I hadn't seen in months, almost a year, and he kept banging on about the pot roast. Pot roast, pot roast, and I gave, I said, "What are you talking about?" He said, "The kitchen, tonight they have pot roast." Honestly, I thought they just had menu items. I didn't know they had SPECIALS. I checked into it and of course I left with a bag containing dinner for that night -- the aforementioned Pot Roast and a White Chocolate Mistress for the next morning. The Pot Roast was fork-tender. It just fell apart. The mashed potatoes were excellent, and I could have eaten a bowl full of the glazed carrots. Sometimes when people make glazed carrots, it's all sugar. It's nasty. These on the other hand were amazing, not overly sweet. The only thing I was slightly disappointed by was the fish and chips. But that's my own fault. I don't like beer battered anything. Beer batter is a hit and miss thing for me. Mostly miss. You have to have the oil screaming bloody murder hot for it to get at all the batter so that way there will not be doughy spots of uncooked batter. I've had the pretzel bites, the wings, the fries and home cooking and the desserts, I can honestly say, aside from the beer batter, I have not tasted a misstep from anyone in that kitchen. Always come here for steak night on Thursdays. And they also have whiskey specials that night on Thursdays. It's a pretty cool little dive bar and the bartenders are super cool. We always come here because it's a chill vibe and sometimes there's always live bands. They also have a restaurant in there which I haven't tried yet. The menu looks pretty good though. read more

I don't know why this place has such bad reviews of the bartender. Now we didn't have a female bartender and the bartender we talked to had no idea who the reviews were mentioning so I think that's pretty weird! Almost like someone is tainting the reviews for some reason. This place has won best bar 8 years in a row. It is a typical small town bar, dark, well stocked for drink combos, good music piped in and friendly locals/regulars. The food was a semi mystery tho. The menu online didn't match what was offered and so we didn't eat here. I had a pretty common drink and it was delicious. read more

We were CC for R&R and family time . We were told about steak night at Vernon's downtown on Thursdays . We were definitely excited about steak night . You call ahead and order however many you need for your group and pay when you get there. Next you receive A ticket that you take outside to the chef who cooks your steak on a grill and a baked potato comes with it. I ordered medium rare but ended up getting medium instead but it was still a really good steak. We'll be back for steak night again ! read more

The smell hits you first. A mysterious blend of stale beer, regret, and what I can only describe as "unclaimed gym socks." The floor was so sticky I lost a shoe trying to get to the bathroom, which, by the way, should be condemned. Pretty sure the health inspector gave up halfway through and just torched their clipboard. read more

Apparently, the patrons are racist. And, the staff doesn't mind. Last Saturday night a few of my coworkers and I decided to check it out. We all had a great time until the end. When someone began yelling "let's call the immigration!". It was loud enough for everyone to hear and see how the individual was acting. It was ridiculously abrupt. We didn't react, as we were already leaving. But, I wouldn't suggest that anyone give patronage to this business if you're not white. read more

We had lunch at Vernon's two days ago and are pleasantly surprised we survived to tell the tale. The food was okay. I used to eat here 60 years ago and loved it. I loved Vernon. But he is long gone. I will NEVER go back. The waiter was okay but the lady who cooked the meal made me worry about hygiene and drug deals. But like I said, we didn't get sick as we feared.
