You know how people describe a hotel as just a clean room to sleep in?
Well, Central Station Hotel is really just a clean bed to sleep in. The rooms are so small, they're almost closet-like. But for the price and its central location, you can't complain too much. It's a 5 minute walk to Chinatown, 15 minute walk to Darling Harbour, but a 30 minute walk to the Rocks (aka where the bridge and the opera house are - so if that's the focal point of your visit, you might not want to stay at this hotel)
I think they're still in the middle of renovating because I've seen workers around here and there. The rooms look fairly new and modern. The bathrooms are clean, but the towels are not. I found hairs on my towels on two separate nights so if you do stay here, you might want to bring your own.
If you have an option to get a room with a balcony, don't take it. Rooms with a balcony are even smaller than the others. Plus, it's not like you get a view of anything anyway. There's a Harry's Singapore Chili Crab right next door but other than that, there aren't really any food options or bars nearby. But like I said, it's about a 5 minute walk from Chinatown, Thai Town, Korea Town, etc. so you'll have plenty of (Asian) food options there.
I probably wouldn't stay here again just because I felt pretty cramped in the room but if you're on a budget but are kind of iffy about staying in a hostel, Central Station Hotel is probably your best bet.
Tip - free WiFi! (which I've learned is pretty hard to come by in Australia.) read more
