This tiny wine shop is kind of hidden mid-block on W45th Street between 10th and 11th Aves. We didn't even notice it the first few times we walked by, until one night we saw the neon "WINE" sign in the window. Although I have a favorite wine shop two blocks away, I'm always up for checking out wines. For a small place they have a wide variety of wines at various price points starting about $9 a bottle. The majority of the wines are imported, not widely know vintners, but I spotted a few good mid-range California wines. It seems like the shop owners hand-selected their favorites for sale. Indeed, there were signs that say "Tim's favorite" "John's favorite" or something like that. One of the owners was there and he was very helpful. Even more helpful for customers would be adding small shelf signs indicating a wine's various ratings, tastings, drinkability and food pairing suggestions...especially since some of the varietals were truly unique! read more

Jeremy is knowledgeable about wine (of course!) and talented at sharing that knowledge without making you feel like an idiot for not knowing more about wine. If you like a wine and it's out of stock, they'll order it for you or let you know when they'll have it again. They do really cute holiday theme stuff (including Passover plague bottle decorations!) and giveaways and have a loyalty program. Even if you don't drink often, it's nice to stop by and visit this local small business that is a beacon of the neighborhood, keeping Hell's Kitchen buzzed. read more

My local wine shop that I keep forgetting to review. Not the biggest of places, which is okay since it's never crowded. A solid variety of wines at decent prices (I've seen as low as $12 for a good red). The guys who work the place are always up to suggest a certain type depending on what you're eating or doing. Veritas Studio Wines is a great neighborhood favorite. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly in my 3 years coming here ... consistent. It quickly became my favorite neighborhood wine shop. Its cute and eclectic, and the staff have grown to know what I want when I walk in. They also introduce me to new wines every time I come in. As far as the one negative review of this place, I personally know that when it was written, the customer was angry because she was turned away for being inebriated. In my honest opinion I'd prefer to have a responsible wine shop that cares about the well being of their customers. The best part of this place, they sell a variety of wine that you can't find elsewhere & work to maintain their knowledge of the over 400 bottles of wine in the shop. Come in Happy. Leave even Happier, & I, being British, should know. This place is soo bloody GREAT, that I don't even need to go to " Happy Hour" any longer. I cook & bake a lot with wine, & sometimes I even put it into the food. The owners there ,Jeremy & Mike are soo knowledgeable about their wines, & you'll get a wee introduction, to the ones you're interested in. I love RIESLINGS,& this place has the best of the best, & wines that NOONE else has. Their motto is " If other places have them, we don't want them . The guys at Veritas are really great. They are always very helpful. In the past they have advised me with some low-brow food pairings. I now know the proper red to go with a dinner of dry Kashi cereal. They have also pointed me to a ten dollar fruity, but not too sweet white "that you can really guzzle." These guys are really knowledgable without the snobbery. They also give a neighborhood discount if you live or work in the area. Go here all the time! read more

A hidden gem in Hell's Kitchen!! We have lived in the area for 5+ years and can truly say that you will not find more attentive and intelligent wine enthusiasts that work here! They understand our pallets and feel like I have become a more refined wine drinker thanks to them! They have an amazing selection of wine that no other shop in the area can rival. By far my favorite neighborhood wine store. It's tucked away in an unassuming entrance of 45th Street, between 10 and 11 and among the hustle and bustle of mechanics shops and plumbing companies, occupying what used to be a movie studio. Their inconspicuousness challenge is everyone else's gain, since this is a true jewel, with superb and friendly service, knowledgeable staff and absolutely outstanding wines. Small wineries, great varieties and a catalog that tops 800 labels are half of what makes this a great find. The shockingly affordable prices are the other half. I belonged to a wine club. I use the past tense because dropping my membership to become a member of Studio's Club (yes: they have a club, too) was a no-brainer. Don't do yourself a disservice.
