I've been to a lot of skate parks, but this one? Easily my favorite. The ramps are smooth, the rails are solid, and there's plenty of space for everyone from beginners to seasoned skaters. The vibes here are amazing and a huge part of that is thanks to the guy who plays guitar at the gate. Before you even roll in, you're greeted by this dude just casually shredding on his guitar like it's the most natural thing in the world. He's not just good...he's phenomenal. Every time I've come by, he's there, adding this beautiful soundtrack to the park. It's like he's the unofficial guardian of good vibes. I've seen kids slow down to watch him, parents nod along, and skaters land tricks in perfect rhythm with whatever he's playing. You almost feel like you're in a skate video with a live score. The park itself is clean, the crowd is friendly, and the flow of the layout keeps things fun but I swear, half the reason I come here is for that guitar at the gate. He's that good. Seriously, whoever runs this place should pay him in gold. If you're thinking about checking this park out, do it. And when you hear that guitar as you roll up, take a second to enjoy it. Gotta wear pads and sign a waiver, bowl is really deep and not accessible for beginners

Been comin here on and off for years. I appreciate the challenge levels this place offers. The 1/4 pipe lip and egg bowl shallow end lip are a bit chunked-up from years of grinding with no follow-up patching/maintenance, so be careful when doin your 5-0's across it, or you can go flying. As for traffic, there's not a lot, but then again this is 2021 we're talkin. You need the pads to skate which is fine by me. Currently I don't think there's a fee to skate but if there was, it would still be worth it. Staff are also pretty cool with me. All in all this place deserves 5 stars. Now go Skate! read more

So much belly-aching over $3 charge in these reviews is petty. What's that, like the price of coke? You should definitely put this park in your circuit of great LA skate spots. It's bigger than all the mostly flat-ground parks like crescent valley and Chevy chase so that makes it unique. It's also rarely packed, apparently because the cheapskates are drinking sodas and skating Cost Co. lol. read more

Wow. Do not waste your time driving to this skatepark. The two men working were giving me and my best friend stares. We skated to the counter to ask what time it closed. We also thought it was a free park but they said- "if you live in Glendale, then it's a free skatepark" We then decided immediately we weren't going to pay to skate. We never pay to skate. I told my best friend we should go to Crescenta Valley Skate Park (which is better). As we started to skate away, those two guys yelled "Good luck skating with the scooter kids" I don't know what it is with Glendale, but Glendale by far has the snobbiest people alive. Verdugo is my regular Skatepark. I'm the one rollerblader that actually enjoys skating this park. It is definitely for the old school skateboarder and a lot of them do skate this. It's all transition, not many rails or ledges. I enjoy it because it has great flow. You can keep a fast paced run through the street course. It has two bowls. One of them is amazing. It's a clover with a 4 foot, 8 foot, and 10 foot section. Very smooth concrete and metal coping on most of it. The other bowl is a POS. It's supposed to be like a real swimming pool, so it has horrible translations and pool coping. I wish it was filled in and made into something else because very rarely do I ever see someone skating in it. Its $2 for people who dont live in glendale. The pad rules are really strict becauce there is always a staff person on. You must wear a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. You cam get around the elbow and knee pads rule by wearing pants and a long sleeve. As for the previous review from a concerned mother, I would have no issue sending a kid over 10 here alone. The staff is not a baby sitter, they are just there for everyone's safety. Most skaters here are very nice and let the younger kids have their own space. read more

Yeah no thanks, I'd rather skate in an empty parking lot than this corporate money making scheme. Not only do they force you to wear full protective gear if you want to enter, you have to pay to get inside. When's the last time you had to pay to enter a skatepark in the city you live in? Even if you don't care about that, good luck skating with all the infant children running around inside the skate area and getting their scooters stuck inside the pools. If you want a skatepark I'd suggest you build your own instead of going to this place. read more

I want to respond first to the first review stating this is not a place for kids. I hate to hear what happened to your child, but I really think that his experience may have been an isolated one. At this point my son (who is 7) and I go here about 4 days a week, 3-4 hours at a time. There's a couple of occasional obnoxious teenagers, but hey, you get those everywhere you go :). Beyond that, this is one of the friendliest skateparks in socal. There isn't the attitude you see Santa Monica or Venice, or the aggro crowd I feel like is always at the highland park or Burbank skate parks. Any time of day, any day of the week, you will see at least 3-6 kids under the age of 10 skateboarding here, most with their parents watching them, or in my case, skating WITH them. The slightly older kids (10-13) I've found to be very encouraging. And while yes, their language isn't great, they always seem happy to take my son under their wing and teach him stuff while I go off to skate on my own. (And really, any boy that age has a trench mouth). An top of this, Saturday mornings at this park, from 10-12 is reserved ONLY for kids under the age 14, and both weekend days offer classes for kids AND there are several days in the week which the staff offers inexpensive private lessons for kids. So really, this is the best park for kids to skate at in my opinion. Everyone is generally friendly, the park is a pro-level in its design, and skaters of all ages and skill levels are made to feel welcome. Maybe there has been a staff turnover since the initial review was written, because Jose, Omari and the rest of the guys who run the park are very chill, have no attitude and seem to genuinely like kids. There has been maybe one occasion where I had to tell some kid to back off of mine-- but it wasn't anything I haven't had to do at a regular park. Kids are kids, and sometimes little boys are tools... but I've never seen a bully at this skate park. read more

Recommended by another Father I know, as his son took lessons here for a few years, I took my 5 year old boy for his very first 1 hour skate lesson today with Amaury (it cost 40 bucks. You can get a 1/2 hour lesson for 20. They have six week skate camps for 100 bucks which is a group with a maximum of 8 students with one instructor. You can also skate all day for 3 bucks). He got my boy up and riding in no time. For a kid who has never even stepped on a skateboard, he was having the time of his life. You need to wear protective gear. I also believe that the mornings before noon are for 14 and under. Then the grown ups come. There is a nice street course, and two nice pools. I saw Amaury working with another kid before mine, as well, and the lesson was good. I think I'm gonna take a few lessons to get back on a board, as well. Fun place. Good teacher. Nice kids helping Amaury with my son's first lesson. Every one of the 6 year olds helping my son out. It was cool. read more

This is the friendliest place I've ever skated! The design of this park is suited for pros and beginners alike. I've just spent three days teaching my 6 year old kid how to skate and in those three days, he's learned to get off his butt and stand up and skate around to now skating down most of the ramps and into the snake run and even riding fakie in the pools. The park is also full of kids (boys and girls) and adults eager to help you with developing your skill level. I've gone from a timid ex-skater, to a full-fledged, "let's quit our jobs and skate all day" kind of guy. I'm so happy my kid dragged me here. We're both skating and loving it. Thanks to all the local kids and adults for making this skate park a second home for my kid and I. We love you all! read more

Skateparks on Yelp? Why not? Plus I get the bonus of being the first to review. I stumbled on this because my son is getting into Skating and he wanted to check it out. We cruised over to Verdugo... It's got great features, it's not too crowded and the best part is that it's got a great vibe. There are kids just learning, seasoned pool vets, grizzled AA types getting their thrills the old fashioned way, a smattering of pros that come in and rip it and...me. ...the adult beginner kooks who grew up 'suburban skating' and want to now try and turn into real skaters. The staff are cool, pads are required, you sign you life away at the door and away you go. It's a good spot. read more

The only downsides to this skatepark is the hours and the fact that i have to pay to skate. that's just because it doesn't work with my schedule and I can't skate as often as I'd like to (which makes purchasing a annual pass a gamble for a "timed ex skater" like myself). I'm lucky to hit this place once a week, but I'm still very grateful to have such an amazing skatepark in the city I live in and I'm looking forward to hitting this place more often. this place would honestly get 5 stars if the hours were a little better, but the reasoning is understandable. The staff here is great and the vibe is amazing. The locals are all hella friendly and shred, which is super motivating. At the end of the day I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to skateboard. it's totally worth it if it works with your schedule. read more

Was here today and witnessed a gang of older men abusing a young teenage boy. They threw his skateboard and used foul language. Lots of people were complaining and asked the men to leave him alone but they continued to harass and follow him until he left. One lady that appeared to be a parent asked him where his parents were and he said they both passed and he was a foster child and she said was it your fault. They were very mean. Dont send your kids here. Beware this place is not safe for kids. read more

It looked like a nice skate park but once i got closer i was apauled by what i saw. A kid came in to skate and he was met by a gang of older men who proceded to berate him verbally and threw his skate board over the fence. Once we saw this me and my family just left. Too scary too much to deal with. I guess this park is only for a select few people. I saw quite a few kids with no helmets and knee pads so i guess the rules only apply to certain people as well. read more

I drove with 4 of my friends to this park with so much excitement but ended up disappointed. We got so pumped up! Listening to "Thrasher" music on the way there! Then we saw the park and it is a medium sized park with mostly Vert. But we found out you 1st have to pay and then wear helmets. When we heard this we were full of animosity for this park. First off: It is NOT at all a good idea for parents to leave their children ANYWHERE ALONE. leave kids alone at place = no bueno. To rebuke some of the negative statements expressed previously, the staff actually do a very good job to keep the facility tidy, violent free, and running in a smooth manner. The majority of other public Skate Parks are not staffed, therefore vulnerable to vandalism, untidiness, and violence. The staff at Verdugo address all those issues. They even make sure the park is clean everyday before and during the parks' opening hours. Majority of public skate parks DO NOT do that. Many parents trust the staff enough to drop off their children, drop them off and come back to pick them up hours later. That is not to say the Skate Park Staff are responsible to "baby-sit" the children. Staff will happily give advice, instruct group or private lessons, or even just talk about skateboarding with them. But by NO MEANS does staff ever advocate leaving your child alone at any facility/ park/ or skate park, while the parents do their own thing. It is very unfortunate that the 12 y.o. boy was not treated as kindly. It is however good that he was not physically hurt. Though, It is a real shame that his experience was anything less than pleasant because so many well behaved and courteous skaters young and old consider this place their "second home." Hopefully he continues to enjoy skateboarding though, because it is an amazing sport that is constantly growing and becoming more and more popular. *Remember: this is a Public facility, open to everyone for enjoyment. So all walks of life roll in and out of the skate park everyday. Even on a basketball court or school yard there are bullies and mean people. The Staff at Verdugo do all they can to survey the activities that go on throughout the day: Address injuries, vandalism, keep an eye on suspicious behavior, keep skating surface clean and debris-free, and ensure safety. Verdugo Skate Park is definitely a treat for skaters. There is not a Skate Park like this around the area for miles and miles. It is very fun and can never get boring! It was built for skaters by skaters! It is even in the "Top 10" list in all of California. We've been coming to this skatepark for years, not just Summers. The staff here is really looking out for the skaters, especially the younger ones. Amari, Tristin, Christian, Heafie - they're all on board (literally) to make the environment clean, safe, and friendly. Those who skate here become a family that keep their eyes open and help each other out - a real community effort. It's this type of community we want our kids to grow up in, whether they're skateboarding or not. Keep up the good work everyone! read more

Love this place, and love the staff. Love that it's only skate park around that restricts access to those on skateboards-- no scooters in the park. The kids love going here, the Dads that never stopped skating pools are there on Sunday mornings like clockwork. I also like the guys who run it. To the idiot who wanted to walk around the inside of the park and got yelled at, it's a liability thing. It's a park where you have to sign a waiver, and they charge a very small fee. They don't let anyone walk around past the benches at the beginning without safety gear on--they can get sued if you are silly enough (and I knew someone who was) to step on a skateboard without equipment. And yes, minorities skate here too even though it's Glendale, so if you need to tell me the race of the guy that pissed you off, it may not be the park for you. They have group and individual lessons, and do a camp in the summer. read more

Verdugo park is amazing! Friendly staff and cool people. I'm an over 30 skater who has gotten back into skating after a long layover, and I must say this is one of the greatest parks in the LA area. It's true, it's more vert than street, so it may not work for some skaters, but if you dig bowls, this is the spot! There are people of all ages, parents with their children and adults like me who are getting back into it. I didn't get to see some of the rippers, ha well that's because I was there at 10am until 1:30pm, these are certainly not rock star hours, but I was told about some of the legendary stuff witnessed at this park! In conclusion, just give it a try, there are some places I've skated that, well just made me a bit nervous, but this place felt safe and the vibes were all positive.
