Clubhouse Provisions - General Tso's Brussel Sprouts

    Clubhouse Provisions

    (27 reviews)

Clubhouse Provisions has re-opened (March 20th) after a two-month winter break which in hindsight…read moreseems like a brilliant decision; no one was going out in the midst of our awful snowstorms. Chef Jon is back, and his opening menu for Litchfield Restaurant Week is an excellent one, fully supported by the kitchen which is blending in some newcomers with its experienced staff. We like the wait staff we encountered, too: Jonelle and Abby, super friendly as always, and quick to respond. The early menu is limited but tasty: the fried chicken breast sandwich is back and as yummy as could be hoped. We enjoyed the salmon poke bowl (a little more acidity needed) and the splendid calamari. The deserts we sampled, cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake, were simply delicious. We are so happy to welcome Clubhouse Provisions back and look forward to many more visits and an update on the full menu later this year.

ORIGIN: Clubhouse Provisions opened in Fall 2022 as part of…read morean effort to revamp visitors' experience. (Thanks to Bill S., Litchfield-based CT Yelp Elite, for bringing the restaurant to mind through his informative review.) The revitalization effort was initiated by a couple -- Jill Farrarotti and Jonathan Philips. Farrarotti's family owned the site since 1955 and Philips has professional food service experience. LOCATION: The restaurant is located at the edge of Stonybrook Golf -- a nine hole public golf course set on a picturesque rural road. CONCEPT: Clubhouse Provisions serves modern American and Asian-inspired dishes in a public clubhouse setting. ATMOSPHERE: The clubhouse is modern and bright, with wraparound glass windows overlooking the golf course, cathedral ceiling, and light-colored painted wood paneled walls. SERVICE: Service is informative and friendly. FOOD: The Crispy Thai Calamari ($20) is worth a visit in itself, and is available during brunch (Sunday), lunch, and dinner service. There is a mix of baby spinach, thinly breaded, crispy Calamari, and chunks of mango and grapefruit veiled by an Asian dressing. It shares top place for best iteration of fried calamari I've experienced (the other is Rhode Island style at a RI restaurant). Pork Belly Bites ($21) makes for a good small plate to share when looking to enjoy a drink and a bite on the porch or at the bar. The Avocado Toast ($25), a popular brunch item prior to 2025 season, has been modified and in my mind has an overemphasis on vinegar flavor, delivered through balsamic drizzle and mound of pickled onions. TIPS: The restaurant is only open seasonally due to its relationship with golf course. The absence of sound-absorbing ceiling material makes the dining experience uncomfortably noisy when the dining room is full. The space is available for hosting events.

ATC South St - Basura Nachos (party style)

Lots of reds, and lots of colors. Definitely a fan of the decor. The tacos are a great size, and you definitely get your money's worth. The El Gringo, for example, was overflowing and I had to pick up the leftovers with my fork! They share restrooms with regular At the Corner, and there's an interior entrance to the bar area. Parking is usual green - could be easy, could be chaos. Watch out for pedestrians.

ORIGIN: ATC South, as the name suggests, is an annex of…read moreLitchfield's long-established @ the corner restaurant. South references the street, and perhaps direction of its culinary inspiration, rather than its relative geographical position. It opened in late 2021 in a space that had most recently served as a hair salon. LOCATION: ATC South is accessible from a door on South Street, as well as by walking west across the parent restaurant. CONCEPT: The small restaurant serves Asian and Latin-inspired food and beverages. ATC South strives to bring uncommonly found flavors to NW Connecticut, a goal supported by @the corner's executive chef, Carlos Perez, and head bartender, Alfie Gonzalez. AMBIANCE: The space is a long and narrow room that is speckled with vibrant colors and "fun" lighting. Opposite bar seating is a row of wide upholstered banquettes. At the entrance there are three high top tables with window view. The space feels intimate, while simultaneously conducive to interacting with other guests --- a perfect combination for an extension of a long-established community restaurant. EXPERIENCE: I sat in one of the upholstered banquettes, which was very comfortable and ordered two tacos. I wasn't sure if this would be sufficiently satisfying for dinner, and was informed by the server that customers typically order two. For this first visit I tried the Pork Belly and Beef Barbacoa tacos. Both were generously filled with multiple flavorful (but not spicy) and textural components, making them tasty, but clumsy to eat --- especially when engrossed in conversation. Thankfully these were served on a small metal rimmed tray, so some of the dropped ingredients could be captured. Pork belly appears to be increasingly popular on menus, and the pork belly was not as I had anticipated-- a fatty, moist rendition --but rather more like cubes of smoked, meaty pork. To accompany the tacos I ordered a Blood Orange Margarita. This cocktail was attractively adorned with a dried slice of blood orange and black salt rim.. very Halloweeny. The juice was prepared, rather than freshly squeezed as I had hoped, but understandable given the restaurant size and shared kitchen limitations. There are many enticing creative cocktails and mocktails on the menu, making ATC South a worthy destination in itself. The two tacos were indeed satisfying, but I felt a first visit (and review) wouldn't be complete without trying one of the shareable nacho starters. The menu's featured Basura Nachos come in two sizes and different meats can be added for an extra fee. The party size is just a few dollars more and is ceremoniously presented. The nachos appear to be house made and are crisp and thick. Really an entire meal for two can be made out of this starter! My only disappointment was that the guacamole had been prepared much earlier as it had an olive green color, so it lost some appeal to me. Again, this is likely a necessity due to two restaurants sharing a kitchen. TIPS: On Tuesdays there are discounts on some tacos and beverages. The South Street entrance requires walking up several steps. Consider using a fork and knife for tacos, and requesting additional napkins. ATC South is currently closed on Mondays, opening at 4 PM on weekdays and 2 PM on weekends. Extended closing hours (until 10 PM) on Friday and Saturday. Take out is available. A variety of canned craft beers and sugar-based Mexican sodas are available in the refrigerator case.

It's basically just a regular ricotta flatbread with maybe 4 clams in shelf sprinkled on top. Thought it would be more integrated into the bread - The merguez sausage was quite good, tender - The squash agnolotti was good but pretty sweet (our waitress did warn us about that). I don't like sweet agnolotti but my husband loved it - The peking duck breast was good. But we had the duck at the Belden the night after that was way better Service was courteous and prompt. Ambiance was nice. Overall, good spot to stop by for a meal if you're in the area. Reservation was not that difficult to get and there were a couple of empty tables when we were there.

She said she'd let us know if anything opened up but by the time we finished our meal and left the restaurant still wasn't even halfway full. Very disappointing experience from a service perspective but the food was good!
