Came here on a whim. I was in the mood for this style cuisine and it didn't disappoint. Ideally located in a busy plaza, this little subtle gem sits quietly just waiting for you to walk in. When you do, you will be greeted by a very entertaining decor. Really nice, bold atmosphere. We ordered the Shish Tawook which was chunks of skewered chicken over rice. It was flavorful and portion of rice was decent but the chicken was a bit dry. The white sauce over this dish saved it and added a much needed moisture to the dry chicken. Still, it was yummy and not heavy in the belly. We also tried the humus, which was premade and available in a small fridge at the counter. I liked this but it could use some additional seasoning for my taste. Still, another yummy to my tummy. Third we got one of the beef shawarma pita wraps. This was super good and the highlight for me. Very tasty and for $5 it hit the spot! Overall the experience was solid. Prices fair and if this place was closer I would visit again. I ordered here for the first time today. The staff was helpful and polite. I was on my way to Ginos for pizza and headed into Venus instead. I didnt know they were there. ‍ I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita...It was, by far, the best I have ever had. Seriously! I am a Panos snob for the past 36 years, but Venus has THE BEST pita. The chicken was tender, shredded, and their garlic sauce was perfect. I normally skip the greek oil dressing and order dill, but I accepted their recipe this time. No disappointment. Most souvlaki in a pita is dry and unevenly wrapped, but NOT VENUS. Even bites and Ohhhh!!, So Good!!!! Definitely a go to!! They also have a food truck. Visiting Buffalo with my daughter and granddaughter, we wanted to try something unique. No disappointment here! We decided to order the Shish Kabob Platter, Gyro Platter and the Falafel with Rice Platter. We wanted to share and they were more than happy to bring additional plates, explain the menu items, and not bothered each time we decided to add additional pitas. The 2 ladies were busy but pushed out the food like professionals, answering the phone, taking table orders, running the register, and delivering meals to customers. It was amazing to see how well they handled it all. I was happy to pay the cost, the portions are awesome, and the meals have some options. I felt the prices were very reasonable. The dining room itself isn't anything spectacular. VERY CLEAN, the Egyptian statues added to the decor and seating was nice. I give 5 stars for customer friendliness, food, service, cost, cleanliness, portion size, and loved everything we ate. I've been here about 2-3 in the last three years. Every time was worse than the last but still isn't terrible. The quality and the amount of food has gotten down especially in the platter dishes. I usually order the gyro platter with rice and side salad which is delicious. Get the hot sauce ! But don't go crazy on it because it is bitter. Definitely an acquired taste. Today I got the beef shawarma wrap which was a disappointment. It barely had any meat inside and it had way too much white sauce. But the portion size was still great for $8. Came with two wraps. 12 inches. All in all, the food still taste great. The portion size of the wraps are still great. Not so much for the platters. I was introduced to this place by my co worker who again wanted to break our Chipotle routine. He said lets go get Greek. I said, sure I'm down to eat whatever. This place is about a 8 minute drive if you get all green lights going down Sheridan from our work place. We usually phone in our order way in advance, because the time we phone in on our order when we were driving there, it too them over 15 minutes to get our order out. so now We give them at least 25minutes for three orders when calling it in. when we arrive there, our orders are on the counter ready to be picked up. What I usually get from there is the beef shawarma with extra greek sauce. I got the chicken the last time but I didnt like it so much. I usually get the Mega size with extra Garlic Greek Sauce. The small / regular size kept me wanting for me but the Mega Size fills me up very well. Over all, my Beef shawarma was really Tasty. the wrap and all the ingredients are very yummy but nothing really to write home about. The beef was nice and moist and tender. The Greek fries are amazing for a not so healthy treat and the schwarma is good too but it has a few ingredients that's are unique to Venus. It also comes with a lot of food. I called and complained, and would not refund my money. They did, however, offer to remake the order. So of course I took them up on the order. A couple of days later, I received my make-up order. I have never had worse souvlaki and gyro wraps in my life. There was barely any lettuce. A whopping two little tomato pieces in each. My extra feta, let alone regular feta?? Lol! There was barely any cheese. And the gyro meat? It looked questionable, and tasted the Sam. It was leathery, too. And the chicken, which was plentiful, lacked moistness and flavor. All this for $35. Ordered take out the other day and was extremely underwhelmed with the food. Chicken fingers and fries were good. However, the Greek chicken salad left a lot to be desired. The chicken was cut in very tiny chunks, little to no taste and very dried out. There was quite a bit of chicken on it. Definitely not an authentic Greek salad. I ordered $47 of takeout and the food was so bad I actually spit it out. I opened every box and bag and sampled everything I ordered and it all went straight to the garbage, except the side of pita bread, and the baklava, which I'm sure was made somewhere else. Came in for some late night eats. This place was recommended to me from a local. I ordered a wrap for about $5-6. It was a pretty good size, but there was hardly any meat inside. I've had lots of mediterranean food, and typical I love the flavor and spices of mediterranean food, but this here wrap was lacking all that jazz. Luckily I didn't spend too much on it. When I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita wrap I specifically said no white sauce or cheese. After 20 minutes of waiting my wrap had feta on it. After less than 2 minutes they brought my wrap back. It appeared to have no cheese on it so I accepted it. Upon eating it noticed I wasn't feeling well. I looked at the chicken and there were remnants of cheese. I am lactose intolerant and therefore cannot break down dairy. I think it's very deceptive to simply remove some of the cheese from a meal that was initially ordered without it. read more

Much like its predecessor, Chicken Run, Venus serves up items such as Shawarma and Gyros. The interior is slightly improved as they added a flat-panel TV and some hanging pictures. Wraps come loaded with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, turnips, and their tahini sauce. Venus is also more authentic than CR - baba ganoush, baklava, and legit looking mango/guava juices give it some credibility. And of course like every restaurant in Buffalo, they also serve wings. Their problems: the lettuce in my wrap was wilted - not a good combo to have with warm chicken. Similar to Chicken Run, it is frustratingly slow as it can take 10 minutes to make the wrap. Hopefully these are just growing pains and that they can get some more help b/c CR was slow for the entire 9 months they were in business. Also, they really need somebody competent to edit their in-house menu and their take-out menu - I've never seen so many misspellings/typos in one restaurant. It may seem like a small deal but things like this make it seem like they're careless. But as far as the food goes, it's adequate considering many UB South Campus students are begging for another option in the University Plaza. Hopefully Venus can keep improving and become a mainstay there. read more

We ordered from here the other night. Delivery was promised within 30 to 45 mins and the order took an hour. The delivery guy had no change, which I thought was weird. Part of our order was forgotten; however, the driver brought it back, plus other free items to make up for it. The food was decent...and a welcomed change from other quick'ish food around buffalo. I liked the wrap--sort of chewey, but not as bready as some flatbreads. The "mega" size is like two wraps in one order...perfect if you like leftovers for lunch the next day! I was just thinking about Venus the other day and how this is truly one of the only things I miss about Buffalo. I went to UB from 2010-2014 and went to Venus at least once a week my four years of school. I would usually always order a Greek salad with grilled chicken or get a chicken souvlaki wrap. The feta cheese is awesome and I also LOVE the yogurt sauce. It's honestly one of the best I've had. I now live in NYC and still can't find anywhere that's similar to Venus. My experience here was terrible but not a-typical of most dining experience around UB South Campus. This should be a great location to make money serving quick meals to the hundreds of college students across the street but yet again Buffalo has managed to fail at even the easiest of business ventures and I predict this restaurant, like so many before it will be gone is a few short semesters. It seems the students at UB will continue to have zero healthy food options provided by small local businesses. Here are the details. Students need quick food. I called 20 min ahead to place my order explaining that I did not have time for a leisurely meal. I arrived and they had not started my order and I waited another 30 min before food appeared. My hummus order was as difficult to prepare as removing a plastic container from the small refrigerator on the counter but the women could not be bothered despite the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant. If a restaurant does not provide table service it implies that you will get you food quickly. Not the case here. Also, I am not convinced that the cook has ever had Mediterranean food. I'm not sure what that green ball of mush was but it was not falafel (usually the fastest of all Mediterranean fare). I think it had been frozen. I think maybe a microwave was involved. My wife and I felt ill for several hours. Was it the food or just the memory of the smell and texture? I love Buffalo but I am not from Buffalo. Buffalo's restaurant goers are not a very discerning with international food, and that's ok, but please stop opening ethnic restaurants if you can cook the food. Prices were ridiculously high for the quality of this food served on Styrofoam plates. Listen, even McDonalds stopped using Styrofoam in like the late 80's. What the heck are you doing? There is a lot of money to be made here and if I had the time or desire to be a restaurant owner I would grab all the business there is to be had in this area of student cash cows. Quick, healthy, cheap food. It's not that difficult. Of course, I will never go back here again and I discourage anyone from wasting his or her time and money. read more
