After already having two successful restaurants in Manchester, I was very excited about visiting Bistro 1847 after hearing only good things about it. Set in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, I thought it was strange to open a restaurant here. Especially after 6pm it is the only place open usually! But the atmosphere of the restaurant complements the peacefulness of the arcade. The interior of the Bistro is minimalistic and modern. Being someone who is allergic to Dairy and Wheat intolerant (I know!), Bistro 1847 is one of few places I don't feel weird at. The whole menu is Vegetarian, with dishes that can be adjusted to vegan or gluten free or both in my view. My and my friend were feeling fat so we both went for three courses. I had the curried Swede Cauliflower, Cashew nut butter and cinnamon cornflakes. So many flavours going on in a small parcel was a great choice. For the main I had "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" (all dishes have these quirky little names!) which is a modern Veggie twist on fish and chips in case you hadn't guessed! I had the vegan version which had two huge pieces of smoked tofu which I really struggled to finish along with the chunky chips! I wasn't defeated and enjoyed all parts of the meal. For desert I had the "Good ol fashioned lover boy" I enjoyed it although I thought maybe the chocolate was a bit over powering as was so much going on. But the jelly was a nice compliment to the richness. The menu contains a large selection of cocktails and deserts for sharing if you and your friends are in search of lots of sweetness. This was my third visit on a Sunday since opening and has been progressively busier each time which is great to see. Bistro 1847 is a very relaxing experience and ideal place for a date or a catch up with a friend. And of course the food is amazing!

Oo-ee this is indeed a very classy vegetarian restaurant…read more The decor is modern, simple and stylish - shades of white and grey, nice white table linen, with a few tables downstairs, and more upstairs on the mezzanine level. There's a large window looking on to the arcade, which is great for watching people come and go. The food was fantastic. It's a fixed price menu, at £19 for two courses, and £25 for three. There's also a pricier tasting menu - the couple sitting next to me had chosen that option, and were really enjoying it. To start, I had the puy lentils, with roasted carrot, spring onions and garlic tofu. The tofu was done as a silky sauce - I'd never had tofu prepared in that way, and I thought it was really delicious. For main course, I chose the bell pepper ragu, with polenta. Again this was superb, with the polenta served as crisp little triangles on top. Both my courses were gluten free, as well as vegan, and their menu is very clear to understand. It feels like the sort of place you can completely trust to get things right. Service was quick and friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere, with other diners just quietly enjoying their meals just as much as I was. I'll definitely be back here next time in Birmingham, and I'll look out for their restaurants in other cities too.

And because this is a restaurant, you can eat in. This is a vegetarian restaurant so sorry to disappoint you meat-eaters. But then again there are plenty of restaurants in Birmingham where you can eat meat. Its not the biggest of restaurants but Sangam is a place where you can take your family. This place does have a nice family feel to it and the food is value for money. Quality of food is excellent, the service is very good and the staff are very friendly. That is exactly how a restaurant should be. I would also give top marks for cleanliness and hygiene. The Gulab Jamuns are exquisite and so are the barfis. I'm coming back here just for the Gulab Jamuns.

For some Asian communities, they have strict dietary restrictions so would only eat at "pure vegetarian" sweet shops, which basically means they don't use eggs or animal fats in their food. Sangam Vegetarian follows these dietary requirements but doesn't compromise on the taste of food. They have delicious paneer pakoras (Indian cheese),, bhajiya (mixed parkora) and the traditional Punjabi dish, sholay patoorey (chick pea curry with a fried naan) is scrumptious! The price is about average for the local area and considering their food is freshly prepared on site, it's definitely value for money. It's a take-away shop with many Indian sweets to choose from. You could even have a sample taste of some sweets before you choose to purchase, which not all sweet shops offer! The service is as good as the food!

A very regular and favourite restaurant with many Asian communities, it's a very well trusted establishment with high quality food. I've been going here for years with family and genuinely LOVE their food. They have a huge plethora of great Indian food, including; mixed thalis, take away Indian sweets, samosas, pakoras, curries, Vegetable wraps, snacks, rasmali.... etc. My recommendation would be try the mixed thali at £4.95, which includes 2 curries of your choice, dahl, rice, yogurt, and 2 roti's or 2 naan breads. Great value, not too spicy and the taste is brilliant. For take away, try the paneer samosas ( if they have any left! ), and ask the attendant to make up a mixed box of sweets for you, you'll be hooked. And finally, the ice-cold Mango lassi to wash it all down with. If you have any money left, ask for the chickpea curry, a medium sized box is enough for 3 people to share. They also cater for special occasions, and on several visits I have seen customers pre-order up to 50 samosas to takeaway. There are always queues, lunchtimes are busy, and on special Hindu festivals, such as Diwali, you can't get into the shop, as it's packed out, and they queue goes onto the street. It's extremely popular, and the food uses traditional authentic and fresh ingredients. The flavours are as you would expect, but they know good Indian cooking. Milan's has a name for itself, and you'll always find families, business men and even youngsters eating out in here on a date! You will not be disappointed with the food, service and quality. Maybe 1 day I can buy some shares in this business....

I love everything about this place but also the general area. We usually have a Masala Dhosa and sample a few sweets before buying about £30 worth of their amazing samosas, bhajis, etc. to last until our next trip to Brum! Another thing, when you've tasted their samosas, you'll never be able to taste Tesco's/Sainsbury's ones again! As mentioned in a previous review, this place can get very busy, in fact just last weekend after we finished eating, it started to fill up. There were 7 people sitting at the tables and about 10 in a queue waiting for orders. It's no surprise this place is popular and I'd recommend it to all, even if (like me) you're not really into Indian food.

Tempted by a Father's Day promotion in the paper we booked into this Punjabi bar come bbq grill…read more You will note that it isn't a restaurant nor does it profess to be. The small car park was full on our visit which isn't surprising as it is quite a large premises. It's in a recently refurbished pub (The Park Tavern?) and the bars and layout inside reflect that. The refurb has been very well done, it is quite smart, clean and tidy. The tables are generally in close proximity to the bars where you have to place your order from. The menu is a combination of "Indian grilled food" alongside a few burgers. There are a few curries but the choice is a bit limited just 6 meat & 6 vegetarian, fortunately for me my favourite, the sagwalla (£5.75), was there. Jee Jee's customers are overwhelmingly Asian and therefore I guess that the food is strongly spiced to suit their homestyle cooking, perfect for my taste but not for everyone incl my kids who found the chicken tikka a bit too hot. There is a butter chicken dish for those who like mild dishes. The onion kulcha nan and rice were very good, the homemade chips excellent plus the bonus of decent sized portions. Unfortunately we didn't have room for any of the traditional "Indian" sweets. There is a good choice of lagers, wine & soft drinks at reasonable prices. Even the Stella and house red were surprisingly good. The only negative was the price of the poppadoms at £2 for 3 but we weren't forced to have them. Apart from (I'm guessing) the eastern european waitresses, we were the only non asians there that evening. This could make some feel "out of place" but we were made welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the evening which didn't break the bank. There is also free Wi-Fi should you want it!
