I've finally made it to my 700th review! It took a while for me to choose which business to dedicate my shiny centurion review towards, but I knew I wanted to choose a place that makes me truly happy.
Vegattos has a very special place in my heart. Sure, there are other cat cafes in the world-way bigger, way more decorated, way more cats-but Vegattos is a humble operation with a larger-than-life mission. Plus, they don't even have any Yelp reviews yet, so I want to bestow them with their first shiny 5-star review so that others may discover this magical gem and support their cause.
In simple terms, Vegattos is a cat cafe! However, they are completely dedicated to helping all animals because they are also a 100% vegan establishment.
First of all, it is very difficult to find. The address listed is correct, but it is on the 8th floor, so you actually have to enter this tiny door without any signs and go up the elevator. We walked back and forth a few times before we realized we had to go inside and up!
Once you enter, it will feel like you've entered a pet store. There are bags of food, treats, toys, and everything else pet-related...except that it is all for cats!
If you look closer, there are some fridges & freezers in the corner. It is completely filled with vegan foods! You have vegan cheese, burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, ice-cream, hummus, dips, and everything and anything vegan! They have all the brands you love, such as Daiya and Gardein, but many other brands as well to try.
You will also find vegan beauty supplies and vegan snacks for humans. This place is a one-stop shop for a cruelty-free lifestyle!
Now head on to the back of the store where you'll see clear windows and a sliding door that leads to...THE CAT CAFE!
When you enter, you'll be greeted by lovable, furry, hoppy cats of all kinds! This is their home, with plenty of perches, beds, towers, scratching posts, and even walkways along the ceiling. Be careful, you might be watched from above by a cat in hunting mode!
There are tables and benches for humans to sit and this is where you can enjoy a meal or a snack while you cuddle with all the kitties.
On the menu includes simple comfort plates such as tofu scramble, veggie hot dogs, vegan pasta, and burritos. You can also get coffee, chai, or smoothies to drink.
Today, I tried the tofu scramble and pasta blanca, with an all-fruit smoothie. Overall, the food is good, but not anything special. The scramble came served on a tortilla that didn't really do anything for me, but it was a good size serving. I really enjoyed my pasta but thought the mushroom tasted a bit dry. I LOVED the smoothie. It is so refreshing and sweet and perfect for those hot Mexican summer days.
Of course, the meal was perfected by the presence of all the cats! Be careful, if they're hungry and you're not careful, you might turn around to find one of your new furry friends with a bite of your food in their mouth. If you want to eat without worrying about the cats, you can eat outside the cat room, but still watch them through the clear windows.
Like many other cat cafes, every cat is available for adoption, with new kittens and cats coming in every week from shelters across the city. All the money they make goes back towards this non-profit to run the cafe and find new homes for these deserving felines.
I left with my belly full, my bag filled with new cat toys and souvenirs, my heart warm, and a huge smile on my face. I love everything that Vegattos is doing to make their positive impact on the world. It is located in a very central location, so if you are close by and have an hour to spare, Vegattos is a great place to fill up, recharge, and do something positive! read more
