We were having a crisis with our 12 year old lab. We were greeted right away. Unfortunately our pup was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and we made the difficult decision to put him down the same day. It was gut wrenching but they explained our options very clearly and let us deal with the diagnosis in due time.....and gave us time me and my boys needed to say goodbye, thank you staff. I was very appreciative of how we were treated throughout the entire sad process.

This place, and the caring people in it, made a very difficult day more bearable…read more I came in knowing that I was going to have to put my almost sixteen year old cat down, and as we pet parents know, Sidney was more than a cat to me - he was family. He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. Highly recommend this place.

My second visit to VEG, two years after my first, was for a completely different issue for my cat…read more Once again the team descended upon me and my boy immediately, and calmly and thoroughly triaged him and took me through all the intake questions. I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!

When your pet suddenly passes away unexpectedly, it's always good to know you have a place to call…read moreto help you. My child, Meeper died in his sleep, we were distraught, lost and confused what to do next. My plans had always been to bury him at my childhood home but the ground was frozen. I called the only place I knew would help, care and respect us, Hickory. I knew this because in October we brought our cat Leo for his renal failure issues and the doctor compassionately helped us through the next steps. They allowed Leo to go outside and lay in the sun while the doctor administered the drugs. It was a beautiful way for him to be finally at peace. When I brought Meeper, there was no rush, no pushing, the staff helped us with every request. I knew he'd be safe with them when they took his body back. I came back to pick up his remains and the entire kit blew us away. Everything was so beautiful and left us feeling happy our son was home. I cannot thank you all enough for everything you've done for us in the past 4 months. I know that our kids were in the best hands. Thank you for everything you've done.

I had been referred to this vet for behavioral services by a dog trainer who was very sweet but equally ineffective. Finally, I called my regular vet and explained what was going on with my dog. She recommended a wonderful dog trainer who we've been working with for a few months. We are finally seeing significant progress with our dog. Our vet also confirmed that "behavioral vet services" are usually ineffective and I was not the first client of hers to have this complaint I would not waste your money on "behavioral vet" intervention. Find a real dog trainer---not someone who treats your dog like a human child with very sensitive feelings---and invest your money and efforts there. If you DM me, I will tell you the name of our trainer.

I left a message for the vet and also sent a more in depth e-mail, per the website contact information. I did not expect an immediate response, as the site says the doctor is out and about all day long but does check in several times a day. Nowhere on the site does it indicate house calls are no longer being made. NOWHERE. About 5 hours after I contacted him, he returned my call. That amount of time passing seemed reasonable. He asked me what my question was. HUH?! I briefly described my cat's issue. His response? 'Oh, you need to see a vet.' I asked what HE was if not a vet. The response? 'I no longer do house calls. I hope your cat gets better. Good bye.'

With clear directions he urged me to provide more stimulation to the 18 year old girl who has been yowling at the wall lately and also explained how no pharmaceutical treatment would reduce her symptoms of dementia. I feel most confident about his review and advice. I will definitely (once Co-Vid scares and/or my own limiting problems) use him as my primary vet for these two. I am relieved, satisfied and pleased to have found this Dr.

The nurse who did intake was a little judgmental and got me a bit nervous that this would be an expensive visit that would require surgery, citing her own dog's recent injury to the same limb. However the vet was very thorough and informative. He described how they checked over every part of my dog's body to ensure she was OK and recommended conservative treatment plan that involves medication and rest--so, no X-rays unless it doesn't get better in the next couple of weeks and likely no surgery. He also noted that my dog is probably a bit dramatic (this is true!). The cost was expensive but not nearly as much as I was expecting and their pharmacy is cheaper than my regular vet. There were a couple things that I feel could be improved upon, though: 1. I have an extra $10 charge that I didn't authorize for their charity organization. I specifically remember hitting "decline." Yet, I was still charged. I know I'll seem like an a**hole asking for a refund, but I prefer to make donations to organizations I'm familiar with and have researched well to be sure they align with all my values. And I prefer to make direct donations rather than while I'm with my dog who is in distress. I also think it's shady to still charge me after I declined. 2. While we were waiting, a young woman came out very upset because her dog was just put down. The music that was blasting in the waiting room was from the soundtrack of the movie "The Wedding Singer," specifically the song where Adam Sandler is singing about wanting someone to kill him and how he wants to die. I also noted that they brought the woman's beloved pet out in a trash bag and then they discussed afterward whether they gave her the correct nose print. The front desk staff was compassionate with her while she was there, but perhaps some of these details could be considered in the future. Overall I was happy with the care my dog got and that is what matters most to me.

Look elsewhere. My two cents:…read more 1) Research the vets who will touch your animals. 2) Research this chain - you will be concerned. 3) Stay away from young know it all docs. I know in emergency - esp on holidays - you're stuck with who you get, but the vet can make it helpful or, as was our experience, a kafkaesque journey through the 7 rings of hell. If I had it to do again, I'd have done research on animal hospitals in the area and Vets within them well before I needed one and would've done what I could to steer toward one of those in an emergency. Our experience could not have been worse. I kick myself for trusting her. Vets are like every other discipline - abilities range broadly. Don't let what happened to us happen to you. We got stuck with what definitely appears to me to be an inexperienced vet (has been there ~ a year or 2) whose hubris cost us a tragic ending with our beloved pet. Also, we had gone there from a pet urgent care center who we paid for a full blood work-up that we presented (about 15 minutes later) to the front desk staff at thee BluePearl hospital when we arrived - along with notes from our regular vet that we saw the day before. The vet never bothered to review the information, ran the same blood tests and charged us for it. Also, our boy died before the radiologist ever read the report on the X-rays - we were charged for the radiologist services. Insults to a very painful injury. You've been warned. My advice: DO NOT GO here and definitely do not allow her to touch your pet - ever. She seems to me to have more confidence than skill. Do your research!!!! I wish I had.
