I've been hesitant to write a review for Vee Vee because I've been on the border of 4/5 stars for quite some time. Well, I've finally decided this one is a 5! This place has no real downside as far as food, service, drink menu, or atmosphere go. Intimate-but-casual neighborhood spot with an inventive, always fresh menu, and awesome beer list. It is a little bit pricey, which is why I've been a little hesitant to endorse Vee Vee with a full 5 stars. You can come for a romantic three course dinner, solo for nice beer/wine and an app, or for a casual Tuesday night fried chicken dinner - (a bargain at $14 for fried chicken, mac n cheese, cheddar biscuit, and a rotating side). Plus - it's always a guarantee that they have at least a couple Trillium beers on tap. The Tues night fried chicken special & their exclusive beer list probably pushes it over the edge against any competitors in the area. Trillium recently released an anniversary beer Couvee de Teatreault (pictured), and only released ~5 kegs to local area restaurants - lucky to say that Vee Vee was one of the lucky recipients. True, we're not rolling in the dough, but that's NO excuse to neglect our table. I was so excited to have a REAL date night for the first time in months! I wasn't sure what would be worth the splurge, so I checked out Vee Vee which had pretty good reviews. We were seated, got water, bread, all good. We ordered the chicken breast ravioli and beef shank bolognese. There were definitely not enough ravioli (especially for $25) and my husband was still hungry after eating the whole plate. I tried flagging down the waiter like 5 or 6 times and FINALLY GOT HIS HIPSTER BEARDED ATTENTION. Mind you, the restaurants is NOT THAT BIG. Grrrr. I was a waitress and you're supposed to check in with your table 5 minutes after putting the plates down. Never happened. Water refilled, once his cup ran dry? Great little gem. Loved the cozy atmosphere as well as everything we had. From the crispy mushroom bites thru the bib salad all the way to the delicious baby back ribs and the Arctic char special. Oh and the Apple crumble and blueberry ginger sorbet were divine. We will be back! read more

Just a really lovely neighborhood restaurant. Vee Vee has everything you're looking for, for anything from an intimate date night to a casual meal with friends: a cozy and inviting interior, locally-sourced quality food perfectly seasoned and prepared (including multiple vegan options), friendly staff, local owners, good beer/wine selection (they offer a flight of all 4 beers they have on tap- mostly Trillium!-, so if you're a beer person this will call to you). Prices are more substantial than other places in the neighborhood (entrees tend to be $25-35), but the quality is worth it. Our manchego potato croquettes were a good start to the meal (crispy, cheesy, slightly spicy from the accompanying tomato sauce). My scallop entree was phenomenal- I haven't seen such perfect caramelization on scallops in a long time, and they were excellently paired with delicious corn grits topped with chard/scallions and toasted pecans. Husband enjoyed his steak entree too (well-cooked, topped with a flavorful chimmichurri and paired with crispy potatoes and green beans). We loved our s'mores cake dessert (not too sweet, lots of great textures and flavors), and I really enjoyed that they offered a sparkling red dessert wine which was a great end to the meal. I overheard the staff say that Saturday nights in the summer tend to be slower, so get in now before the crowds come back. Will be putting Vee Vee on our regular rotation. read more

Great small restaurant. It feels comfy and intimate. Low lighting and quiet. I am vegetarian and they had really good options. I had the Gorditas. I like a little spice but not a lot so the waiter suggested getting the sauce on the side. Great suggestion because I could add as much spice as I wanted. Highly recommend. read more

Outstanding dinner in a lovely, relaxing space! From the garden wall to the quaint little bar, this intimate restaurant has an unpretentious, zen vibe. Lovely paintings that recall the far out coasts of the Cape adorn terracotta colored walls. The food was absolutely perfect in quality and flavor, striking a balance between clean and classic freshness (shrimp cocktail) and unique, original combinations. The chimichurri steak got me excited about steak for the first time in a very long time. Respect for the wine selections. Vegan gorditas dish was a party of freshness in my mouth. Service was professional, friendly and well paced. I would love to see a more special dessert that better accompanies the uniqueness and originality of the rest of the menu - I had the lemon cake and it was decent but not as special as it should have been. Oh man, this was our favorite restaurant in JP. So disappointed. We have gone a handful of times and always order the same 2 entrees (we're boring, apparently, but we know what we like !) the gorditas and whatever the vegetarian pasta dish is on the menu. They were always consistently fresh and delicious. This time both dishes tasted stale and sort of gross. The avocado sauce was an old brown color on the gorditas. The arugula pesto was also brown. The pasta tasted old, and the sauce had a heavy savory taste when it should have been light and fresh. It was just off. The worst past was that our waiter never asked how our food was, even though we only took a few bites of our food. I can only assume that he wanted to avoid confrontation in the tight quarters of the dining room, but I would have appreciated to communicate our experience quietly. If that had happened I probably wouldn't be writing this review. Old review: How do you get to experience deliciousness...forever? This was the best meal we've had b a long time. We had the best shiitakes ever- they were fried the way chicken might be and tasted incredible. We also had the oysters, the linguine, the gorditas and the special dessert. I request that the special dessert of ginger lemon ice box cake should be put permanently on the menu because it was the most delicious dessert my boyfriend and I ever ate. As the culinary love child of Kristen and Daniel Valachovic who together have over two decades of restaurant experience at Mi Casita, Zon's and Sorrelina, one would naturally expect a brilliant dining experience and refined tastes. I entered hopeful and left wishing for more. The space had been effectively reorganized since it's predecessor, Cha Fahn, it's rich pumpkin colored walls and simple furnishings creating a warm, intimate ambiance. The wine list encompassed continents including organics from the world over, tell-tale asteriks dotted the pages to my delight but when asking the server his suggestions we came out no more informed. Our first courses came, half of the appetizer menu, really. Roasted beets (lacked roasted or grilled flavor) and romaine salads (too sour, should hold back on the preserved lemon), mushroom pate (one dimensional but tasty), scallop and shrimp cake (winner!), acorn squash soup (tepid). Then the entrees were paraded on the table: linguine with clams (too salty), skate wing (solid), mushroom turnovers (not enough filling but good pastry dough), cod (uncooked wheatberries). Dessert was the unanimously the best course: espresso creme brulee with candied kumquats and walnuts (too sweet and sugary), bread pudding with black currant (yum) and poached red wine pear with Stilton-like cheese (most creative). Was so excited to try this place due to high recommendations. I was disappointed the steak had zero seasoning. I asked for some seasoning, and the waiter took the plate to the kitchen and returned saying the cook said this is how it comes and you probably won't like it and to order something different. I was hesitant because of the way this waiter was treating me. I ordered the pasta on the menu. The waiter brought it and it was clear the cook purposefully over salted this dish. And to top it off, the waiter brought a salt shaker and aggressively put it on the table. I was shocked as this is talked about as a highly valued restaurant in our tight community. I am also brown and there were no other minorities in the outdoor area. I don't know what the deal was, but I will not return. Beware of the passive aggressive cook and shoddy waitstaff. read more

Been here a half dozen of times over the past two years, the food has been very good some nights but also completley inedible at other times so consistencey is their main issue. The second issue is the "cool" vibe from both the servers and management. For such a comfortable, inviting space with wonderfully warm decor most of the staff appear to have something of an attitude problem which really takes away from the meal. If the price points were lower with these same issues it's easily a 4 star review, but considering what they charge, naturally the expectation of better service with consistence well-executed dishes is higher. My boyfriend and I decided to check Vee Vee out after deciding to get dinner last minute, and were seated immediately on a Saturday night. The ambiance is perfect--exactly what I want in an somewhat upscale restaurant. It felt comfortable and approachable, but still classy and a bit hipster. They have a great beer menu! It was exciting to choose from a bevy of new-to-me options. A few of the appetizers appealed to my boyfriend and I, but we went with the oysters because we wanted to be fancy. They were huge! A good amount for the price, IMO, and definitely tasted fresh. Also, we got fresh bread for free that was quite good. The entrees were very hard to choose between, and I reconciled choosing one with the resolution that I would just have to come back to try the others. I chose the gorditas (vegan!), and it was definitely a creative and tasty meal. I will say that after eating 2 of the 3 gorditas, the meal tasted a bit one-dimensional/imbalanced, and I was not excited to eat the third. What was there was very good, but I think it needs something else. My boyfriend got the steak entree. I tried a bite, and it was good but I've had better. Did takeout from Vee Vee and it was delicious! Went there in person as well pre-COVID and was impressed, but I will say I think the takeout order outdid what I had gotten at the restaurant! It was the perfect cozy winter meal. Got the Brussels and olives for apps- the almonds in the olive appetizer really made it. The beef stroganoff actually blew me away! The steak my friend got was also great, perfectly cooked. And last, but DEFINITELY not least, you gotta save room for the butterscotch pudding for dessert. Vee Vee you are everything we look for in a restaurant for brunch. Atmosphere: small, cute quaint and comfortable, a cross between a cafe and restaurant Service: awesome, friendly, attentive, and great timing on serving food. Food: we just went for brunch but this place exceeded expectations and was absolutely incredible. My bf got the VeeVee sandwich which was perfectly paired with a side of potatoes and salad. The side salad was awesome and the dressing was light, flavorful and probably my favorite. I got the brunch platter, and this was awesome! Two eggs, a side of meat, a side of potatoes, a side salad, and a biscuit for $11?! Holy cow what a steal, this place was reasonably priced. I also must add that I am super picky when it comes to OJ, but this juice was probably one of the best OJs I have gotten at breakfast (not the best but up there). Brought my mother here for Sunday brunch - our meals were delicious and the service was first rate. My mother ordered the scrambled eggs with fried oysters and it came with a nice green salad on the side and was delightful. I'm not big into eggs, so I decided to take a little gamble and get the fish cakes. I was not disappointed - they were crispy, flavorful, and filled with fish and spices laid on a bed of greens and homemade baked beans. Yum! My boyfriend joined as well and had to scoot early - they were really accommodating in getting his breakfast sandwich prepared really quickly and apparently it was "best breakfast sandwich" he's ever had. I believe it was the owner who was so pleasant and made us feel right at home. Also, the plants and floral arrangements in the restaurant were out of control. There is a huge wall installation brimming with plants and a beautifully arranged epic vase of cherry blossom branches in full bloom. We really enjoyed our morning there. This was my first visit and I plan to go for dinner soon. If the dinner is as wonderful as this brunch I'll update my review to five stars for sure! read more

5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the service. Backstory-- my husband and I elected to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary at Vee Vee. Hubs and I had just finished up with 4 months of long-distance because my job in Boston started before his. He had moved to Boston the prior week and we had spent two days unloading our moving pod (including our actual anniversary date). Our dinner at Vee Vee was on our actual 5-year anniversary date and we were thrilled to actually get to celebrate it together, as well as pleased to be mostly moved in to our new place. I put a special note on the reservation indicating that it was our 5-year wedding anniversary. I was excited because they have extensive vegetarian options and great yelp reviews. We arrive to dinner and were seated in a cozy table near the window. The hostess showed us to our table and gave us menus. She asked what brought us in and I noted in was our wedding anniversary and mentioned we had just moved to JP. She said something like-- yes, saw that on the reservation, happy anniversary. She was courteous, but not particularly friendly or congratulatory. The waiter did not mention our anniversary or congratulate us. It's not as though I needed some huge gesture from either of them. At the same time, having worked as a waitress before, I feel like it is pretty standard to be much more congratulatory and welcoming than the hostess and waiter were at Vee Vee. To me, it's basic customer service. And given what we were celebrating, we were clearly going to spend money and were potential repeat customers, as we're now living in the neighborhood. A "Congratulations on your anniversary! We're so pleased you've elected to celebrate it with us. Let us know what we can do to make this a special night for you." We got none of that. I guess I maybe miss the friendliness of the West Coast and forgot that folks on the East Coast can be a little monotone and reserved (I know, I know, stereotypes). On to the food-- it was great! We got the FRIED ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS stuffed with herbed cheese and served with 2 sauces-- one zucchini based and one tomato based-- for an appetizer. The tempura batter on the squash blossom was light and crisp and the sauces were very flavorful. So delicious! The presentation was lovely. I'd give this 5/5 stars. I'd definitely order this again. I got the BEET GNOCCHI with sage brown butter, asparagus, and broccolini as my main course. Yum! The gnocchi were tender and lightly beet flavored. The veggies were cooked perfectly and were very satisfying. The colors of the dish were also very visually arresting-- the contrast of the pink gnocchi and bright green veggies was beautiful. 4.5/5 stars. My husband got a meat dish-- STEAK I think? He was pleased-- this was one of the first times he really enjoyed broccoli-- the side that came with the steak-- the broccolini had pickled peppers on top and he really liked the tanginess. The steak was cooked properly and he seemed happy (of course as the vegetarian, i remember the broccolini-- lol). We got the STRAWBERRY CREAM PIE with basil whipped cream for dessert. It was generally pretty tasty, but the flavors were a little subtle for me. I wanted more of an intense strawberry flavor and more of a sweet/tangy flavor. The crust was flavorful, but the filling tasted mostly like unsweetened whipped cream. The basil whipped cream on top had no discernible basil flavor. 3/5 stars. I got wine and my husband got beer. Don't recall which ones, but we were pleased and they were tasty. We will definitely come back and I've already told my vegetarian parents about the delightful options at Vee Vee. We did leave a good tip, despite being underwhelmed by the service-- because I am not about to deprive someone of their salary for mediocre service. The resto is a bit 'cozy' dinning room size. My foodie friend and I, had no dates, so we decided to do a foodie review night. It was a great choice. We were luckily able to walk in and eat at the bar. While a bit small, the bar was still perfect place for dinner. Having the cool bartender at our disposal, wasn't to shabby. It was a special v-day menu and our entrees were delish. The wine pairings for the meal were on the mark. While I ended with a decadent chocolate cake, my friend opted for the mix dessert platter. She loved it. Fun night, great place. This place is adorable. It's very small, but cozy, so you definitely need a reservation. Although they do have a small bar that had another 5 or so seats. I had the sangria, since they do not have a full bar, and it was delish. Not too sweet. For dinner I had the Roasted Giannone Chicken Breast, and it was honestly one of the best chicken entrees I've had in quite awhile. The meat was very tender, the gnocchi were great, and I loved the veggies it came with. All the entrees sounded fantastic, so choosing was difficult! So... this just happened. My wife and I went to eat at Vee Vee, a cute wine bistro in the hood of Jamaica Plain in Boston, MA. Drinks were great. First course was fantastic. Entrées perfectly prepared. At the end of the meal the bill arrives-$99. Not bad (for Boston). I situated my credit card into the cutesy binder clip in which my bill arrived. A few moments later a different person than our server brings our receipt back to us... I have a temporary panic attack as her first sentence begins with, "Hi folks," I immediately think for some bizarre reason my card is being declined. Staring icily she continues, "It looks like you folks have made two prior reservations for four that you didn't keep." How do they have this information? I never gave them my credit card number. My heart stops. I feel like my high school history teacher just busted me for weed possession. She continues, "We are a small business and when people like you don't keep your reservations it impacts small businesses like us." Wowee! Is this a script from Curb Your Enthusiasm? First, I must clarify that, yes we did renege on one of those reservations due to illness. A week later we attempted to visit Vee Vee with a reservation, sans illness, NO reservation was made. At the time we were told nothing was available and we could "take our chances" and that only half of the restaurant was booked with reservations. There was "a chance we could be seated". We decided to not play the odds. Here's the thing... tonight I spent $100 at this restaurant ($120 with tip). And it was good. In fact, I mentioned it several times throughout the meal. From the castelvetrano olives, almonds and ricotta salata pairing, to the scallop and shrimp cakes, to even the pedestrian sounding pistachio and panko crusted pollock-all were fine. But then... the lecture. Talk about ruining the mood. I couldn't help wonder if this woman had done this to other patrons-and if the poor servers paid the price. (I still left him a solid tip-hopefully she didn't nick it.) Honestly, unless a customer is pissing into someone else's shrimp cocktail, shaming a patron is never, ever a good idea. Am I really being ridiculed after spending $100 in your restaurant? I haven't felt this incensed in a long, long time. Despite the initial service and quality of food I would never set foot in here again. I would avoid. And whatever you do-DON'T CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION BECAUSE THIS IS BOSTON AND YOU KNOW THEY HOLD THAT SH!T ALL NIGHT. Too bad. To Robert N.'s point... Let me replay this for you. Yes, we were not able to make a reservation, and yes it was a last minute cancellation, and yes we failed to show up. Months later, after finally making it in to Vee Vee, we spent a lot of money (for us). The bill is delivered, by the owner, where we are lambasted. Robert N. suggests that because this restaurant is so awesome the owner has the right to be this ridiculously rude. Sorry, I whole heartedly disagree. No one gets a free pass to be this classless. For all this woman knew a family member died! We are not prank calling restaurants in the Boston area making and not keeping reservations. I can't imagine that I'm the only one in the universe that has ever had something come up. Not to mention, I don't know how many times I've made a reservation in Boston that's actually been honored. Friends, this woman, the owner no less, did not politely suggest that we come back while hinting that canceling is problematic. She dropped the check on the table and made us feel like complete and utter garbage. Vee Vee had a lot of potential, in my eyes. I like fish and veggie stuff and it's a place we could have gone with our friends. However, the poor and rude service by the owner is really taking a toll. We came in for the $1/oyster special which was ending. I wanted oysters anyway (at the very friendly and fun St. Anthony's Feast) so I decided to go with the bf's plan. The owner does not really know how to serve tables correctly so she leaves me an entire glass of something she doesn't think I'll like for a taste and then disappears. A misunderstanding leads to us drinking most of the glass while she's gone. She then throws a snotty "But you drank it" at me when I told her I didn't like it (as she predicted). This ruined the night as I was just bitched at during dinner. My bf wanted me to order something else, and I would have, except that I didn't want to order another freaking thing from this place. I ate here with my parents a few months ago on a wintry night when there weren't many people about. There were only 4 or 5 people in the restaurant when we arrived and it stayed that way throughout our meal. It was a special occasion and my folks were visiting from a long way away, so we were looking forward to a pleasant evening over some good food and wine.... The food was, for the most part, very good although nothing incredible. My main complaint is the unbelievably rude service we were subjected to. It's months later and I am still mad about it, hence my deeming it necessary to give Vee Vee a single star. My Dad wasn't happy with his entree as he felt the meat was undercooked (especially for his tastes) and half of it was inedible. He spoke very timidly to the waitress (owner?) about his complaint and was met with dagger eyes and a point blank refusal that there was anything wrong with his meal. She insisted that his food was perfect just the way it was and there was nothing that could be done about it - "that's the way the chef likes it". We were flabbergasted by her reaction and were left feeling shamed and belittled. Apart from this incident, said waitress/owner (young woman, sharp bangs, dead in the eyes) had been abrupt and downright chilly with us all night, tossing plates onto the table, glaring at us and going out of her way to make us feel as though our very existence was a huge inconvenience to her evening. Talk about being looked down upon! It was the most off-putting dining experience I have ever had. The snotty attitude was shocking. We couldn't get out of there fast enough and the next day found ourselves still reflecting back on the experience with disbelief and irritation. Definitely way overpriced for Jamaica Plain (especially given the quality, quantity, and presentation of the measly five items that Vee Vee features on its extremely limited menu). I ordered the Arctic Char and the preparation, while adequate, consisted of a portion about the size of a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. We spent over $100.00 to sit at the bar (where they have six stools) and have two beers and a paltry serving of seafood that had me reaching for the nachos when I got home. I'm a long-time JP resident and would love to see better restaurants succeed here, but it's not happening with Vee Vee. They don't take reservations and will make a party of two wait rather than seat you at one of their (empty) four-seat tables while they wait for a party of three of four to show up (whether they actually do or not)--this is a bad business policy folks. Save your time and money and try Ten Tables or, better yet, any place on Restaurant Row in the South End--much to our lament, Centre Street in JP is apparently not yet ready for prime time (at least as pertains to Vee Vee). I've enjoy trying new foods, especially ones that are supposed to be "healthy" and "good for you". I was interested in trying this place due to the limited decor I could see and the menu yet I found many glaring problems. The first was the rudeness of every person there. It felt like they didn't want me there and was happy to express their displeasure. In fact the waiter went out of his way to ignore me for 15+ minutes. When he did find time to stop by, and mind you there were only 3 people there including myself, he wasn't friendly, courteous, or helpful. The first words out of his mouth were "what do you want"? Seriously? I told him two things. One, "are you my waiter" then "why did you take so long to get around to me". He shrugged indifferently and just waited for me to say what I wanted to eat. While I was planning on ordering the Watermelon soup and a dessert, I settled on just an entree 'Panko-pistachio Crusted Pollock' as his patience waiting for me to order was palatable. I went to the washroom and found it poorly lit and fairly unattractive with a badly design motif. It looked very uninviting and amateurish. Oh, did I forget to mention that the silverware was unclean, there were spots on the knife and fork. There sense of cleanliness is obviously lacking. Eventually this very old woman asked me if I wanted bread in her dull, lifeless voice, of course, after giving bread with a warm smile to everyone else. When I got the bread, it was stale and devoid of flavor. The oil that she pointed to as a garnish smelled rancid. Eventually the Pollock arrived and I looked at it in absolute disgust! It had the appeal of dirty sneakers splashed with fresh mud. It had a "I don't care" presentation that matched the dejection of the staff. I would have returned it and walked out but my blood sugar was very low and I needed to eat something, ever something as disgusting as this fish. The crust had an obvious stale taste with no seasoning while the vegetable (what were it was) was limp & off putting. The puree had this one note of taste that reminds me of canned soup, were the metalic taste of the can lingers on your palette. After leaving, I felt sick to my stomach, not just from the rudeness and lack of professionalism from the staff but from the meal as well. I'm thinking they wanted me out of there quickly so they did whatever they could. Please, DO NOT patronize this establish as you'll surely regret it. read more

I was excited to try this new restaurant in my neighborhood, and my wife and I were able to sit down immediately at around 6 pm on a Saturday night. We ordered a roasted beet salad, which was tasty and well prepared, the bread they served while we waited was fresh and delicious. The glass of organic red wine I had was quite good. It went down hill from there. My wife ordered the spaghetti squash entree which sounded yummy, but ended up being vegetable with fruit and vegetable - not very interesting or nutritious. It was also not fully cooked and only warm. The staff was quick to heat it up, and apologized many times. The couple next to us ordered the same thing and wasn't that impressed with it either. They took it off the bill for us. I ordered the mushroom turnovers and they were cooked just right. We had a pear soaked in brandy with blue cheese that was also good, but not really exciting. Overall, the meal was overpriced for what we got, and the food was slow to come out. No doubt a restaurant open for two weeks needs to iron things out, and I hope they can. I recommend that the vegetarian food have more protein and flavor, without forgoing gourmet quality. Neither of our entrees had anything but some cheese. I would expect beans, grains, etc to be offered for the price charged. We'll go back again and will try something different, but we're not in a hurry. ------ OK, so I have been back twice. I'm happy it now has ironed most things out that disappointed me, and we're happy to keep coming back. Still want to see more adventurous veggie dishes with balanced protein and less fish. read more

Perhaps it was the great company, the good wine, the cozy atmosphere - or all of these things combined with Vee Vee's amazing menu but to me, this place was sheer heaven!! Chilled asparagus soup, fried green tomatoes, watermelon salad that was unlike anything I had ever had - I ordered the salmon that was absolutely the best salmon I had ever tasted! My boyfriend got the quail and left not a crumb on his plate. Our friends got Quinoa Cakes and a vegetarian bread sort of veggie plate with mushrooms. All just so friggin' delicious. This is a small destination but very friendly and inviting. Go! You will not be disappointed! read more

There is much weeping and gnashing of teeth as we wish off our co-worker on this disgustingly hot and humid night. Cranky people already depressed and in the foulest moods descend upon Jamaica Plain, many for the first time. Some get lost, some just hate everything right now. All arrive more or less on time at Vee Vee for a ceremonial living wake for the soon to be departed... Enter 9 cranky-mc-angry-folk into a nicely air conditioned (but not freezing), warmly painted and intimate (by that I do mean small) dining area and lounge. I was told our seating would be a little tight given the size of the restaurant and the size of our group, but all were seated just fine, a little cozy but fine for our group. At this point the good and proper thing happens, the waitress comes over and offers the wine and beer lists. Simple enough - give us 2 of this, 2 of that and keep it coming, lady. Mission accomplished, minutes into seating all have beer, wine, water and there is plenty of wine left in bottle on table. Tensions begin to ease. Tears begin to dry. Orders begin to be placed. 'Look at this f'ing menu....water melon salad, fried green tomatoes, crab and shrimp cakes? GIVE US ALL, GIVE US ALL!!' Yes, yes, plate upon plate of tasty sea and land bits begin to emerge and quickly fill our table. Mouths that were complaining moments ago are now stuffed like autumn squirrels on all these appetizers. Silence. Munching. Panting. Scraping of knifes and forks. A rest, but only for a moment. Entrees are ordered. Roasted red snapper, quail, tuna meatballs, swordfish. More wine. Conversations begin to become more engaged as caloric intake and alcohol consumption fuels metabolism and chemical balances. Mood enhancers. The music switches gear, it was lightly ambient when we entered and is now galloping along almost in touch with our tables mood. Once again food arrives. Silence. Munching. Panting. Scraping of knifes and forks. Plates are cleared. More wine poured. Gifts showered upon the soon to be departed. Dessert menu, a glass of port for all. A toast and then cake, let them eat cake. CAKE GOD DAMN YOU, CAKE. Good cake. 9 satisfied diners leave Vee Vee, no, close Vee Vee and leave a trail of wine glasses and tired servers in their wake.
