Most of these glowing reviews are old--thanks, covid--but rest assured, they've still got it…read more After four years of homecutting (that's the haircut equivalent of homeschooling, right?) I finally headed back into the world for a professional cut. And style, and shape, and general pilar resurrection. No issues with timing. Texting Tina got me an appointment the next day. I showed up a few minutes late but she still saw me right away. The cut seemed to take no time at all. But she didn't cut corners to trim the time; she did a *fantastic* job. Even better than my hair was in the Before Times. I'm definitely going back. I might even hit up Ed for some beard work. Before, I was considering getting my hair done right once or twice a year, then going back to homecutting in between...but to look and feel this good for under $40? There's no going back.

This is an old school barber shop, so you will not be asked "What number?" the moment you sit in the chair-or ever. Yes, it's true; they cut hair quite well using scissors! Of course, they can buzz hair, too. Also, they take time cutting your hair. It's not a 5 or 10 minute cut. I highly recommend this barber shop to anyone seeking a great haircut.

I started coming to The Shop ever since CJ moved over. Once you find that perfect barber, you…read morefollow them wherever they go. I live on the South Shore, but I drive up to Somerville just to see CJ! CJ is perceptive to both the client's desires and also what will look good for each person. He clearly communicates what he plans to do, and he will pause to confirm your approval before continuing if it's a new look for you. This is THE most important quality in a barber, because I might have an idea for my haircut/beard trim in my mind, but the barber may see it differently. And now, since I completely trust CJ's judgement, I could walk in and say "Do whatever you want" and I wouldn't worry at all. It was CJ's judgement that led to my current beard style, and looking back it was obviously the right choice. If you need a new barber and don't know where to go, book CJ at either of The Shop locations. I've been going to CJ for years, so the move to The Shop was a no-brainer. Now I have a kid, and CJ cuts his hair, too - super convenient to get both done with one trip. My kid already had a few haircuts done before going to CJ, and CJ is amazing with kids. All the barbers in the place are respectful when we're there - they even sometimes change the music playlist to be kid-friendly, which is an awareness I really appreciate as a parent. The place is clean and welcoming, and the staff are efficient. Street parking is easy enough for the amount of time a haircut would take. I highly recommend CJ and 968 The Shop!
