It started great last year. On the days my child was sick, I would cancel through the portal and or through the "verifying" text messages. Unfortunately, I didn't keep track, but it wouldn't have made a difference because I was charged for those days. I was denied a refund. I signed back up for 2025, and my child attended one session. Whatever you do, do not utilize this program. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I have been trying to schedule a tutoring session for my son since January 11th and it has yet to happen. They contacted me and solicited me and put me through a 30 minute question and answer and said at the end I would be assigned a tutor in 24-48 hours. We heard nothing and after a week I downloaded the app and answered all the same questions again and requested a tutor. I called and they said they had no signs of me requesting a tutor before I requested one online on the 17th. Fine. We get assigned a tutor and the tutor has to cancel the first session because she doesn't have the credentials she needs to give the assessment needed on the first day. On the flip side, the login they gave us for the assessment doesn't work. We call the day of our sessions on the 23rd and are told, they found out on the 19th that the program no longer required that assessment. Did they let the tutors know? No. Did they let the parents know? No. So our session on the 23rd was canceled for no reason. Next session, on the 30th. We get an email from our lovely and responsive tutor that she hopes we heard from Varsity (we didn't) but she declined her contract and canceled her sessions because of how inept Varsity was and broken promises. They say and do nothing until I call and we are finally assigned a new tutor. I talk to the lovely Tutor on the phone. We schedule sessions, through their technology, for sessions every Sunday and Tuesday. Today I go to login and and there are no sessions and no tutor listed so can't get into the session. I call and they said because we didn't have a session by the 30th, they canceled our account and they will do nothing about it. Despite it being their fault we didn't have the session. I have wasted hours and weeks. Rescheduled activities and work to be available for the sessions, and it has all been a complete waste. On top of that, when you call you speak to a call center in India. I hate that because not one of them cares about your situation ever. Not once. What a worthless company. read more

There's no way varsity tutors has this many stars. If you're looking for tutors for your kids. Even if they lure you with the whole Arizona grant for free tutoring. Please try other places first. I even complained to them about how horrible their customer service is and all I got was dead silence on the other end of the phone. Not even an apology or any kind of concern. I started signing up and backed out when they only gave me the option to "call today" or "call tomorrow" This was a week ago, and they've called me 12 times since then. They've called me every day, sometimes multiple times a day, even after I backed out of signing up because I wouldn't submit their stupid call authorization form. This is predatory. This review is to speak to VARSITY TUTORS Response Time - I was having a college crisis in English Composition one night and with my back against a wall of confusion in search of clarity, I researched "tutors" and found Varsity Tutors in the search results. I spent 2 minutes filling out a Tutor Request on their website at about 9 pm on a Sunday. Varsity Tutors returned my call by 4:30 pm the next day. THAT IS QUICK. I was unable to retain their service at this time because the university that I am attending was able to secure me a free tutor from the university's writing center. In September 2022 my daughter and I decided to give Varsity Tutors a try because she was struggling in her math class. Before giving the ok on the transaction I asked the representative if I could cancel the services at any time and they assured me over and over that yes that I would be able to cancel at any time I thought was necessary. They in fact told me try it for 30 days and pay $269. We decided to cancel the service because my daughter's grade did not improve, when I wanted to initially cancel it they insisted to give it another shot and we gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to try another month, but it did not work for us. Since then, there has been four payments of $269 and they keep insisting on paying for a service that I do not need or use anymore. Whenever I call to have the service cancelled, they say to wait 24- 48 hours for another call, but I have yet to receive that call from anyone. Of course, to their connivence that time extends to the next pay period and more money is taken out of my funds. Might I add that they charged me but did not set up a tutor for my child if I had not checked my bank account, we wouldn't have noticed that I had been charged once again for a service that I do not need. What I want now is for them to cancel my membership with them like I've asked several times and refund me a payment of $269 because it was not an authorized purchase from my end. Really bad customer service on their end, it's been a month since I called to cancel my service and still have not been called back, I was looking for help and this has become a NEVER-ENDING NIGHTMARE. read more

He was very knowledgeable and made sure that all of our questions were answered. I never felt pressured at all. But very comfortable with our discussion. So I worked with Varsity Tutors for 2.5 months, using their Live Learning Platform for guitar lessons. I've been playing for over 12 years, self taught and never took lessons because I couldn't find a teacher that fit my style. After working with their team, we found Sean Smith, an actual recording artist out of Nashville Tennessee who was great to work with. Every session was customized to my liking and I was able to meet with him online which is great because I work full time. I was searching for a tutor for my son so I filled out a form to receive more information. Initially I received a couple of voice mail messages and finally spoke with Drew. He was very nice and explained process then we scheduled a follow up call. I looked a couple other places that offered tutors and decided to go with one the was face to face not over the internet. Once I let Drew know that I conversation took a turn he went from nice Drew to an aggressive, pushy salesman which I immediately told him at that point there was nothing he could say to make me go with his company. Edwin was able to not just tutor but teach My son by using language and methods that were clear to understand. He passed the class and I'm convinced that Edwin was a huge reason why. I had a problem with Varsity last night over a last minute cancellation for a two hour tutoring session / one on one at our home. Since the session was to prepare for a final exam, there was little time to find another tutor in time for the Friday test. I was frustrated and wrote a review discussing my frustration. This morning I received numerous messages and calls from their office apologizing and doing all they could possibly do, to help find a last minute replacement. One on one, in person tutors are harder to secure and take more time to set up... so they weren't able to find a replacement and agreed to refund the amount charged for the session. Then I received another call from the Manager to offer a free online session so our student would not be left without help while preparing for Latin II final exam. I must say, I was taken back by their customer service. They were genuinely concerned about supporting the student/customer and providing a session to compensate for the one that was cancelled. I feel more confident about their services/ business model now and was also impressed with the flexibility the tutor offered when we set up the session. Thank you Varsity Tutors! read more

First, let me say that the SAT tutor was fabulous, and my daughter benefitted from his help. However, she also had a pre-calc/trig tutor, and that was a whole different story. Additionally, Varsity Tutors' aggressive sales, high upfront cost (hourly cost is acceptable but paying $2500 in one shot is a bit of a shocker), online tutors from the other side of the country (making scheduling difficult when there's a 3-hour time difference and your kid is busy until 6 p.m. or later), one tutor who moved and disappeared, a replacement tutor who was condescending and rude, and my daughter having to re-take the subject in summer school to get a better grade and stay on track for a full ride scholarship ... not the greatest experience for us. If we'd been able to pick our own tutor perhaps it might have been better. read more
