I attended classes at AF Tucson but opted for Preply online instructions. I found AF instruction…read morehighly variable. Some teachers were ok, but others were not. Also, in some classes, the students were aggressively rude, off-putting. Most of all, you could only speak for about 5 minutes per hour. The rest of the time, you listened to fellow students struggling to parlez vous. Preply provides a solid hour of speaking & listening for about $25.

Alliance Francaise has been a great resource for me to revive and improve my French. I first met…read morethe members of the Alliance at a galette des rois holiday gathering. The group was chatty and fun and immediately made me feel like I belonged. The organization offers classes, conversation groups, and social gatherings, so there are many options and opportunities to work with and talk to others who share the love of the French language. I have been taking classes at the Alliance Francaise for about two years now. They have guided me all the way from struggling to remember the French I learned in high school to passing the DELF B2 fluency exam. Of the three instructors I have worked with, two were native French speakers with many years of experience teaching French in a classroom environment. The third instructor was a native French speaker who led an informal conversation group. The class size ranged from 4 to 10 students. I recommend checking out the Alliance Francaise if you are looking to improve your French or if you just want to meet and talk to other people with an interest in French language and culture. I am not aware of any other organization in Tucson that offers what the Alliance does.
