Good donuts! Everything was fresh and tasted great! I really enjoyed the light swirl circle ones in my picture! They are airy and lightly glazed. I also like the little donuts with the cream inside! They also have a selection of smoothies with boba read more

Horrible customer service. No hello no thank you, asked for a dozen she just threw a bunch of donuts together. She didn't give us options, she picked the small donuts. We paid, no thank you just walked away. Not much "variety" of donuts. read more

I believe there was a donut shop here previously but the ownership changed. I feel like it may have been an improvement as Steve and I were very highly impressed with the half dozen of donuts that we ordered. We also got a cinnamon roll that was separate from the half dozen. All the donuts we got were great as well as the cinnamon roll! The blueberry, the chocolate frosted, and the coconut donuts I fondly remember. Definitely going back but perhaps next time it will be a full dozen than a half of one... not that I need a further excuse to get more donuts! Very good experience! read more

Variety Donuts on South Tacoma Way is a hidden gem--always fresh, super friendly, and delicious. The glazed twist is perfection: light and fluffy, almost cloud like inside with just the right amount of crisp and sweetness on the outside. I seriously can eat 3 of these alone. We take our daughter on donut dates on the weekend and we've tried shops all over, but nothing beats the quality and consistency here. No gimmicks just good donuts. Definitely a must-visit! read more

Good donuts, great service, sketchy atmosphere. I wouldn't eat here in the store it felt a little dirty, but the donuts were perfectly acceptable, coffee was tasty, and price was reasonable. read more

Looking for a traditional donut and great service. This is the place! And they take Apple Pay!

Very good donuts. I was in town for work and brought Variety donuts into the office twice. Donuts were always fresh and super delicious. Average price for a dozen donuts. They accept cash or card. I guess it depends on the time of day, but no need to worry about parking early in the morning. read more

I've passed this establishment numerous times but never thought to go until recently when my husband wanted donuts. We didn't want to drive to 6th Ave so this place was our next option. The donuts weren't too bad tasting, hence the 4 star. I like that their donuts aren't dense like other donut spots. The fritter was my favorite with the cream puff coming close to second place. I'd probably return if I were in the area. Donuts are always good snacks to have. read more

They did not update the store hours online. I came at 4 and it was closed, but apple said it was open until 5.

Apple Fritter 4/5 overall. Crispness 4/5. Flavor blend 4/5. Dough 4/5. Fruit volume 3/5. Size and Value 5/5. Good hefty traditional Apple Fritter with a nice crisp outside, and a well blended inside on the flavor profile and dough. Great value, hours and service. Long time returning customer, all their donuts are great here! read more

I live in Tacoma, and didn't know about this place until someone brought donuts to work! The box is generic, so I had to ask around to find out where they were from. These might literally be the best donuts I've ever had! Every single one (they bring in donuts frequently) is light and perfectly glazed or flavored (apple fritters have that perfect softness and crunch!) Support this small business, you won't be disappointed! read more

The donuts are good but the lady behind the counter is rude it seems like she doesn't like her job at all, she doesn't even greet her customers when they come in. She rang me up and gave me the total for the donuts but I had to add some hot beverages for my husband and my kids but she keep sighing as she was adding it and she wanted to charge $3 each for a small cup of hot choco and it's clearly stating on her menu list that a small cup are $2. I wanted to say something to her but I didn't wanna embarrass her infront of other customers. Too bad because we like coming here. read more

This place is definitely a hidden gem!! My dad brought these donuts home and I fell in love once I tasted the sugar twist. One of the best donuts I've ever had. The sugar twist literally melts in your mouth. All of their donuts are fresh and so affordable!! Every time I go to Lakewood, I stop by to grab a dozen. Highly recommend you try this place out because you will not regret :) read more

The donuts are great, but the customer service lady is so rude.. She does not like her job... The guy that works there is great. She got mad at him for giving me a sample.. One time, he pulled donuts out of the oven and had them on the cooing rack I ask for a dozen of them and he was grabbing a box to put them into to She took the box away and tried to give me older donuts.. Be nice if she would just smile and say thank you.. read more

My sister came here by accident after eating pho the other day and she legit text me and said "YOU NEED TO COME HERE!" And so I did - and ohhh boyyyy this place did not disappoint! I always judge a donut place by their most classic donut - the glazed. And it is so good, so light, so airy! The previous review is funny (I mean they literally asked where the donut man is ), but it's not accurate. Come get some donuts, they the bomb. Even better than Dockside! read more

The doughnuts here are pretty good, buttery soft. Picked up Bavarian and bear claw doughnuts. Friendly staff too. The young women at the register is very friendly. Service is fast. This shop is in the corner where there are Korean restaurants nearby. Great location to pick up sweets after going to H Mart. read more

Sad I did not get a chance to taste donuts. The sign says open at 5 AM. Apple Maps says open at 5 AM. Google maps says open at 5 AM. However, I walked in at 5:06. The lady standing behind the counter, have an attitude and I walk in early saying they're not open when clearly every website says they do open at 5 AM so I calmly ask her. What time do you guys open ever answered she proceeded to walk around the store with an attitude so I walked out. I really wish someone would teach individuals proper customer service because that was clearly unacceptable. This happened today August 3, 2023. read more

I've had donuts from here and the Original House of Donuts on Gravelly Lake Drive. Don't know how they do it, but they've managed to capture the exact taste of the original Lakewood Donut Shop. It's in the dough and it's exactly how I remember it growing up. Currently the Lakewood Donut Shop lost that special flavor they used to have. If you miss that taste, please go and try Variety Donuts! You won't be disappointed! read more

TBH, I have to disagree with the negative review about this place. The lady has been super nice and the donuts are buttery soft. I've tried about 4 other donut places in the lakewood and surrounding areas, and this shop takes 1sr place. The others were good as well, it's just this one has the edge based on the softness of their donuts. read more

I visited Variety Donuts first week she open up, Donuts are good as the last Owner's, Server was very friendly & We chatted a while about the previous Owner who I've been a Customer to since 1981. My 2nd visit Sunday 6/28 at 9:40 a.m. I left without purchasing anything. Server was slow preparing an order plus at least a half a dozen Customers waiting. Good idea to hired at another Server. I decide to visit Kolby Donuts on 150th Pacific Ave,fast friendly service 3 Customers were ahead of me. Megan, Server probably stare at you because she had a bad experience with minority group. I'm a black Man & I've seen some self entitle rude Customers at Asian Eatery. Its no excuse but thats probably why. If you have the time to wait Donuts are great read more

I am so shocked at the woman at this store. I called in an order one day before. Due to some event changes, I called the morning of the pick up to change my order, not cancel but to change it. She said they can't do that esp since they already prepared the order (aka doing their job!). I told her I understand and I'll be there to pick up at my usual time. When I arrived, she ignored me. It was ghost town. So I moved to make eye contact and she looked at me and chuckled saying she gave my order away and that I don't need to buy. I was stunned and confused! I told her I'm here bc I want to buy the donuts! The racks were still very full and she was being dramatic and I called her out. She snapped "then which donuts you want?" At that point I said forget it lady, you clearly don't want my biz. Mind you, I get 4-5 dozens twice a month. This woman has no regard for customers. I don't know how this biz can treat customers like this in good conscious and laugh about it! I am baffled! This woman has been helpful in the past, no problem, but she just snapped! Wow!!! Her loss. I'll have to take my biz elsewhere... really wanted to help this small biz, but will not go back after this mistreatment. read more

Loved the donuts! But after the owner said out of the blue "she didn't like me"! I will not be back to buying donuts from them. Strange, that's all I can say. Never had a bad encounter with this lady at all. I inquired more thinking it was a joke and she never recanted her statement. She said, "she's just being truthful". I'm black and I'm not trying to play the race card but it was totally out of place considering the other visits I've had there. Enjoyed the donuts but the horrible attitude and the lack of feeling like I belonged seemed to come as a package deal. I will not be coming back! read more

They had great selection! Donuts were not greasy, perfectly done. I came in with two little kids - who took a while to choose their donuts. The lady working there smiled and patiently waited for my daughter to choose the "pink" donut which surprised no one hahaha maybe a little higher priced then some other places, but definitely higher on quality than the average donut shop!! read more

Came in on a Saturday morning for some doughnuts and the girl behind the display just stared at us. There was no hello or how can I help? Just an emotionless stare like she didn't want to be there. I ordered the doughnuts and once I gave her the cash she put it in the drawer and walked away. She didn't look at me there was no thank you just awkward silence. A ghost could of helped me and I wouldn't know the difference. The doughnut was fine, but I rather spend my money where they actually use customer service skills. I miss Westernco. read more

I Rated Variety Donuts 5 stars. This place is under new management and I believe new owners who are super friendly. If you have questions or unable to decide what to pick they are happy to guide you to a donut that is right for you. I have been here 3 times and haven't had a donut I didn't like. This place IS NOT gimmicky, you won't find donuts bigger than your car, iced with 8 layers of glaze, or hard as rocks. Instead you be pleased to find donuts that taste amazing, fresh, and soft they melt in your mouth. My wife and I have been to every donut place known for their donuts which resulted in nothing but disappointment. We found one place but it's not close by so we don't go as much as we would like. Thankfully we took a chance and tried Variety Donuts which is close by and delicious. What a Win win situation so now Im sharing the news with all of you donut lovers to try Variety Donuts! Don't forget to tell your friends! read more

The BEST donuts I've had!! Beautifully light and melts in your mouth. They serve the classic donut variety, plus some generously filled cream puffs. Not too sweet, not too much glaze, not dry, not too dense. I don't need an exciting flavor combination just to be let down by the donut. I'm very picky about sweets, if I'm going to treat myself it better be worth it & done well. They do a wonderful job! Great service too, very kind and attentive. read more

I tried a lot of different donut shops. This is one of the best. The donuts are amazing!!

Came here by accident, was pleasantly surprised. It's a hole in the wall, but the donuts are amazing

Moved from another state and we finally found our donut shop!!! Everywhere else we went tasted like oil. But not here! Variety Donuts had the fresh, fluffiest, melt in your mouth texture we've been looking for. We tried a selection of things: apple fritter, cake donuts, old fashioned, bars, and donut holes. The whole family agreed this place was delicious and we are definitely going back! read more

Contrary to the name this donut house doesnt carry the necessity in variety. The price for donut holes 2.5x the amount of other places and is justified by 2 extra holes. From 1.00 for 12 to 2.65 for 14. Honestly keep the extra two holes for that 1.65 more. read more

This new donut shop is really amazing, I enjoyed the previous shop also but these new owners make some mean donuts! The new donuts are super light and fluffy and the frosting is layed on nice and thick. These are the best donuts I've had. This donut shop was the best shop in town.My husband and I had been going here for 3 years. It was recently sold and now marketed as Variety Donuts.. These donuts do not taste like donuts but taste like bread. Wonder bread to be exact. There is no sweetness like they should be. The frosting is sparse and isn't traditional donut frosting. My family is very dissatisfied with our purchase and honestly we threw them away. Donut man where are you??? read more
