Delicious. From the moment I walked in, I was assisted and seated right away. I'm a HUGE fan Vapiano's since I've lived in K-town. Overall, I can't give this experience a 5 because the Vapiano's in K-town, made it fresh to order right in front of you. The cheese was freshly grated thick cuts right in front of me and I enjoyed the experience so much more that way. I usually love Vapiano. My sister and I first stumbled across it in Paris years ago and now when we go to a city with it, we try to stop in. At this location, when you walked in it was especially chaotic feeling. You order downstairs, most of the seating is upstairs and you're going up and down to get your items as they are ready and to get anything else. The staff wasn't particularly friendly and if it had been my first time at a Vapiano I would have had no idea what to do. The food was okay. The carbonara has been a favorite but this time it felt like there was almost no sauce so the pasta was incredibly dry tasting. I do like that you can customize your pasta pretty much any way you want and they give very good portion sizes but this one was just okay. read more

Just had lunch here for the first time with a couple of my friends. It was great! I will be returning for sure. Choose pizza, pasta, or salad, then choose what kind you want. It's great to see pesto as an option as I don't really like red sauce, and alfredo is scarce in Germany. There are 15 or so options of sauce and 9 kinds of pasta. Next time I'll have to check out the pizzas. I was a little worried about whether I could fill up with just pasta, since there isn't really a meat option, but with the pasta and the side of bread you can get (free!) I was having a hard time finishing. About 10€ for the pasta and a large bottle of Pellegrino. Pretty hip set up, interior design and music. Check this place out! read more

When I lived in Germany I use to come here all the time! Love the Pesto Pasta here. Its seat yourself. They have a great selection of food to choose from. Just pick one of the lines you want to eat at wait and order the food you want. The line situation can be a bit confusing at first. If you have questions the staff does speak English. There is Basil at the table that you can use along with salt oil and pepper. I literally miss this place so much I can't wait until I go back to Germany to come here. Oh Vapiano...I can't even explain how much I love thee. Love the food. All of it. The pasta is hand-made on-site and your meal is crafted before your eyes. When you walk into the restaurant, you're given a card (looks like a credit card of sorts) and you choose what type of food you want (if you need an English menu, they have them behind the check-out counter) and you get into the corresponding line. Pizza? Salad? Pasta? You really can't go wrong here. The pizza topping options are brilliant -- from the pesto covered to the super spicy peppers and sausage -- they're all great. The salads are HUGE and come with whatever toppings you want on them (although, depending on the English skills of the person making your salad, you might just get "everything" even if you just answer "yes" to wanting onions...details). As far as the pasta goes -- you select the type of noodle you want and the type of sauce you want and they cook it all before your eyes. I always added chili and garlic and was never upset about that. I never had a combination that I didn't love either. Also, Vapiano has a full bar. And dessert. The wine list has a variety and the pours are generous. As you order each your meal, drinks, etc., the employees scan your card for you that you received on your way in the door and you pay by taking your card to the cashiers on your way out. I think the flow is great. This place gets REALLY crowded for dinner on the weekends. It's sometimes hard to find a place to sit inside (especially in the colder months when the patio isn't open), but I've never had to search for longer than 5-7 minutes to find a party leaving. Finally - the staff is always SUPER friendly and carry on conversations as they perfect your dinner. This is the second Vapiano that I have been to. This is an Italian restaurant. When you go in, you get a card. Then you decide whether you want salad, pasta, or pizza and then so line up accordingly. They also have a little menu that you can look at. Appetizers and desserts are self-help. Meaning that you can directly go up to the counter and get it yourself. For the other stuff you have to line up and wait. The food is generally quite good and the small salad portions are actually quite large. I know that with the salad and pasta you get some bread too. Not so sure with the pizza. After you order and get your food (which is quite yummy), they scan the charge onto your card. Then, you go look for a seat. I love the layout and the seating. It's usually wooden tables and each table has salf, pepper, olive oil, vinegar, and some herb plants. The olive oil is pretty good with the bread! After you are done eating, you go to the cashier on your way out and give them your card and pay your total. You can also pay for more than one card. I would definitely recommend this place, but not during "rush hours". The problem is that the line is very long and the cooking is not always the fastest. So it becomes a problem if you are alone and you want a salad and pizza or something like that. But during down time, it is great. I think the salads are generally all less than 8€ and the pizzas and pastas range from 6€ - 10€. read more

The first time I went to Vapiano I was totally confused. There were people in queues, so I thought maybe the procedure was to order and then pay at the cash desk. Or.. maybe you ordered at the cash desk and then picked up? Luckily I was looking super bewildered and an older gentleman explained to me that I needed to get a card and then order. Oh, why that makes perfect sense! Anyways, overall I think the food at Vapiano is pretty solid and reasonably priced. It is freshly made to order (even late at night) and you can customize to your heart's content if you want. I have tried pizza, pasta, and salad. I have to say that the salad is up to California Farmer's Market freshness standards, even in the summer. I prefer my pizza to be more on the thin-crust side, so this place is just average for pizza to me. As for pasta, I enjoyed their pesto sauce quite a bit. However I think my favorite thing about Vapiano is the fresh herbs that you can pick from the plants to add to your dish. read more

Great Italian restaurant. They make everything fresh right in front of you while you wait. Mostly everything I've tried there has been good. The only minuses are that sometimes the wait is really long to get your food and the drinks are ridiculously high-priced. However, the food is awesome and not too expensive. I recommend the pizzas and pastas there. The salads are nothing too special. read more

Fresh pasta, excellent pizza and thoughtful salads: this place got it all creating the italian experience you won't find anywhere else in the region. The atmosphere is more than enjoyable, as this place is always crowded and the olive tree in the middle, as well as the self-grown spices on each table add small accents to the interior. But there is more! The whole ordering/paying system has been remodified, so that each guest receives a credit card when entering, with which you can "pay" for anything inside the restaurant and pay the total off at leaving. This makes the processing faster and allows you to leave the place whenever you feel like it and not only when there is a waiter able to attend. Ordering food and drinks is similarly easy, just go up to one of the four couters and you will have your meal cooked right in front of you which is a delight after all. The food is excellent and the prizes are relatively low. Definitely one of the places to go for late lunch/dinner in Stuttgart. Only negative aspect is that sometimes it is too crowded, but usually the staff is able to handle it. read more

Excellent pizza and pasta made fresh in front of you. The whole concept is amazing and they pull it off with such class. Would recommend to one and all. It was so good that we ate there and then took takeaway for later that evening. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and obliging. There is also a nice coffee shop in a different section of the restaurant. It is also nice to see the fresh pasta that is being made. Their payment system takes some getting used to but is also an innovation and this cannot be faulted. Coomunal tables add to the experience. read more

With a strong currency, a load of debt obligations shared with Euro-zone partners, a low birth rate, a culture that spurns technical innovation and a tendency to focus on the sorts of manual labor that are quickly being automated, Germany has very few things going for it, economically. One of those few bright points has always been the culture, which leads to a strong tourism sector; many parts of Germany are world-renowned for their expert, professional waiters, a few of whom I've seen balance up to five dishes on one arm. Vapiano's faceless owners appear to be doing everything they can to sabotage this tradition. They got rid of the waiters entirely, which would be *almost* forgivable if the food wasn't slow, over-presented, over-seasoned (non-creatively at that) and over-greased. I literally stood in line for 20 minutes before I was even allowed to order, then had to stand another 7 or 8 while the guy behind the counter took my order and prepared my food. He seemed nice enough, but as with every other cook/cashier in the place -- no doubt forced by corporate to use some patronizing title like Pan Ninja or Pasta Artist -- he was required to do a ridiculous little drill of spinning his cookware before doing anything useful. This was clearly enforced, as every worker was doing the same spins. If I want crappy, Olive Garden-style pasta, I'll go to Olive Garden, where I actually get to sit down before receiving my over-salted, cartoonishly prepared slop. And if I want a food truck, I'll go to a food truck. Forcing underpaid, over-worked fast-food jockeys to spin their pans does not mean you can charge ten bucks for a few noodles and some basil doused in an ocean of butter, even if you're being "innovative" by making customers stand for half an hour. read more

Great food, but the dining experience leaves a lot to be desired because you often have to wait in long lines to get your food.

I'm actually not a huge fan of the Vapiano system, so this may be a bit biased. I don't enjoy the fact that there's so many things you have to do, get the card, line up, order, wait, bring your food, find a place, search for cups and forks. Like any other Vapiano in any other country, the food is mediocre in my opinion, nothing really special about it (considering that I'm married to an Italian). The Vapiano Stuttgart has a nice terrace at least. So two stars for the terrace! read more
