Valerie is extremely knowledgeable and professional and I have been very happy with the hearing aids Valerie prescribed for me. This year both my parents needed hearing aids as well so I brought them both to Valerie. I will note that having the audiology as a part of an ENT office is invaluable especially for my parents who needed ear checkups as well as hearing evaluations. I had been ill for over a year, had a…read morevariety of biopsies, two root canals, thyroid scan, whole body scan, all to discover why I had a lump behind my ear. I had no working diagnosis, only a vague reference to having Epstein Barr syndrome. I had been to an event where someone mentioned that the local expert on Epstein-Barr was Dr. Barr. So I booked an appointment. Within 2 minutes of looking over my binder of biopsies etc, he said, "you don't fit the profile of patients I see with this syndrome, but be prepared to hear that it is serious when we do get a diagnosis." He pointed to one of the biopsies where it said something like "it is not ... hodgkins lymphoma, but we cannot rule out ....xxx...however unlikely it seems" Within a week, I was scheduled for a biopsy of the lump behind my ear and within two weeks, I got the dreadful news. A week later I started chemo and have obviously defied the odds to write this review. Dr. Barr has since retired, but I continued to see other doctors in this ENT practice. I've found all of them to be excellent physicians. The support surrounding the practice is outstanding. They know insurance plans. You are seen at your appointed time. I can usually be seen for acute conditions such as sinusitis the same day; if not at the Chain Bridge location, then at the K-Street location.

It is common to bill one visit (exam and hearing test) as multiple visits, and the patient ends up with paying double the copay for one visit. Such double copay happened to me in 2018 and 2020; I spent hours on the phone trying to process it correctly through the insurance.

I've been to many ENT clinics over many years, but it's truly rare to find someone who is not only highly skilled but also genuinely caring. I've struggled for years with allergies, asthma, a deviated septum, and chronic sinus issues. Dr. Egan performed my surgery, and the results have been amazing. This was my first surgery, and I was honestly surprised by how little pain I experienced afterward. Even my family is more excited and relieved than I am because of how smoothly everything went. what really stood out to me was how kind and compassionate he is - he treats his patients with such warmth, alomost like family. The doctor (friendly) here asked me some questions about my general health concerns and looked at the blood work record I brought in from my previous docotor. I specifically told her I DO NOT want an annual Physical on the day I visited, and wished to schedule it later. The billing was a huge shocker: After my insurance coverage, they sent me a bill for over $320 (patient portion) for the visit. When I called the billing office about this questionable billing, they simply told me each question about my health is billed seperately, so they "added" up to the charges. When I ask for itemize billing, they never sent it. They even said "next time don't ask too many questions because it all add up" . Also, unlike my previous physician office, after the test/scan the doctor had ordered for me, the doctor did not call me back regarding the results. When I called her after 2 weeks for the test results, their office asked me to schedule another appointment "so the doctor can discuss it" with me. I will not be returning and be over charged again. Over the years I have prolly spent in excess of $15,000 out of pocket on hearing aids. There was the last occasion four and a half years ago when my daughter initiated a "Go Fund Me" campaign that netted $6,500 toward these two very powerful Phonak Nadia models. Thank you! For the last six to eight months I found that if I pulled on my earlobe (to open the canal) and cupped my hand behind my left "good ear" that I could pick up about forty-eight point four percent of the voice I focused on. My lip reading is most superior; bringing my cognitive ability to about seventy-five percent understanding. Not bad eh? Life is rich and God is Good, All the Time - I'm not one to complain to Him for why I'm made this way. Brings me to today...My appointment at Johns Hopkins was set a month ago. I was guarded on my expectation for this appointment, but eager nonetheless. Cooperating with Rachel the Audiologist at The Listening Center and the tests she performed in a never before experienced sound proof (psych proof) booth, I waited with my wife for the results. "Mr. T. she said, you have remarkable language skills and your lip reading is some of the best I have seen". She continued, "You are a prime candidate for the Cochlear Implant in your right ear as it is your worst side." As she turned it and pointed to the new hearing test print-out on her desk. I reached for a tissue and just wept. "Medicare pays everything for the Cochlear Implant too." "Did you hear me Mr. T.?" She looked at my wife and said "Let's just give him a minute." I guess I picked him because he had numerous accolades and titles and it seemed he was the chief of some advanced ENT society. Well, I was wrong. He used a light to look in my ears and my nose, and used a little mirror to look in my throat. I brought him a copy of a film of a sinus cat scan, and also some medical history (last endoscopy which diagnosed esophagitis and sinusitis) in 2019. He sort of shrugged his shoulders, said my issues were complex, and to see a doctor of rheumatology. Apparently this dude is more a facial plastic surgeon than an ENT doctor. He actually said some of my sinus issues could be due to implant rejection. WHAT????? He also made a comment about my youthful facial appearance. Another insinuation, I suppose. BTW- I've found seeing doctors during the COVID paranoia causes the patient to receive less quality care. TJB.

Dr. Vap is the first doctor to actually take the time to talk to me, give me a thorough exam, order the necessary tests, and work with me to come up with a treatment plan. He's helping me find out exactly what causes my symptoms rather than just insisting that I take a million medicines. He even suggested and ordered the food allergy bloodwork that I've been begging my allergist to do for years. The specialists that I had gone to about my cough before him had just rushed the appointment and pushed medicine at me; I'm so happy to have finally found a doctor who takes his time with patients and really cares about finding a solution.

The place where I bought the hearing aids sold out and is not returning calls. I was informed that because I didnt buy the hearing aids there they would not provide me the service I was happy to pay for. They wanted to sell me a new pair for $7,000. The typical service I described should cost about $400.00. No wonder they get 2 stars. This is a money grubbing outfit. I would avoid them in favor of a business who actually cares abut helping patients with hearing loss as compared to overcharging it's uninformed customers. Shame on them.
