The only vet I trust with my horses. No doubt he knows his equines! Willing to make house calls and prices are very reasonable.

Our first two visits to the Beatrice Animal Hospital went very well and we were quite happy with…read moreour choice of vet until we brought in our 3 year old cat Ichabod for a dental cleaning. Now, Ichabod had teeth that were in rough shape so after talking to the vet, Dr. Baxa, during Ich's first visit we decided to schedule a dental cleaning a month out and then go from there. I brought him into the office July 2nd and left thinking my cat would be coming home that afternoon and during pickup I would discuss the next steps with the doctor. First off, I never received a call telling me that Ichabod had made it through his cleaning so I ended up calling the office around 4:15pm, to not only find out he was being kept overnight but also 11 teeth had been removed, needless to say I was in shock. The thought of him having teeth removed had never crossed my mind when I left him at their office and I was very unhappy about not receiving a call to let me that it needed to be done. The next morning I went to the office to pickup Ichabod, when it came time to pay the bill I asked for a printout and immediately spotted the extraction fees, I explained to the woman at the front desk that I did not feel comfortable paying for something I did not authorize and wasn't even notified about, she proceeded to tell me that this was standard operating procedure. Excuse me? I've never experienced anything like this in the several times I've left a pet at an animal hospital, I have always received a call if something came up during a procedure and have been given a full explanation and the opportunity to make a decision. I love my cat and would do anything for him but it is important to both myself and my husband that we make the best decision for him and we would have held off on the extractions until we got a second opinion, I explained this to Dr. Baxa who then said that calling me had never crossed his mind, he only saw something that needed to be done. I completely understand what he is saying but removing 11 of my cat's teeth and not calling me is unacceptable and I don't know any pet parent that would tolerate something like this. At the end of the day it is my job to take care of Ichabod and make sure he gets the best care possible so to have the opportunity taken away from me is incredibly frustrating. Eventually I had the extraction charges removed and got a credit for the prepaid fecal examines that we were charged for during the visit with our two kittens. When I finally got Ichabod back he had blood all around his mouth and down his legs, it was the icing on the cake and I left with tears in my eyes. I think it is pretty clear but I will go ahead and say it, we will not be visiting the Beatrice Animal Hospital again, we will find another vet for the ongoing care of Ichabod and our two kittens.
