We had several quotes and Vanguard was not the least expensive. However, the impression created in their estimate was that they were a smart, and professional, company. The actual move proved that to be so. We had some complicated items: a 19' kayak, a gym quality elliptical, a large poly picnic table, several large TV's and more than a dozen pieces of fragile artwork. Every mover impressed us a great person. Every thing they touched they handled with outstanding care, as if it was their own. Not even one star! I had a contract with Vanguard Moving. I paid Vanguard for the first two scheduled payments. Then when I was supposed to get an update on loading date, I never received anything and Vanguard would not respond to my phone calls or emails. Then I finally received a call from someone I THOUGHT was Vanguard. They verified what we was included in our move items and asked for more money. They said we had more to move than agreed upon. This was NOT the case. On the next check-in date, I received a call and discovered I was now dealing with a different company, Moving Logistics. They were asking for another payment. After proving that I had paid Vanguard, they agreed I owed nothing yet. When Moving Logistics showed up to load up, they demanded more money because they said we had more than agreed upon. There was never more than a one bedroom load. We ended up tossing the mattresses and loading things in my son's car AND paying more. After waiting on a call to tell us when they would be delivering the load, we finally had our less than one room load delivered! Because they were driving an 18 wheeler that would not fit where they were to deliver it, we had to pay even more for a rental truck! They had to unload the 18-wheeler and load into a rental truck and then unload at our location. When they opened the back of the truck I could see that the items were just tossed into the rental. We had broken items and very little was protected! We paid triple what we had originally contracted for and it was the most stressful time ever! I would never use them again. Stay away for your own sanity and check with the Better Business Bureau, thoroughly. read more

This was without doubt the worst experience I have ever had with a moving company. I was completely misquoted in the beginning. I was not told that there could be two weeks from date of pick up to delivery at the new location. I paid an extra $400.00 to have actual delivery date. We were out of town but flew in to receive our load on the date that was our "firm" delivery date. I got a text on the delivery date that they would be there in the afternoon. No show. I get a call in the evening that a different driver had my load and he was coming the following day around 12:00- 1:00 its now 2:30 the day after the firm date and still nothing. No one at the moving company or the "customer service department" at Vanguard can give me answers. As of now, still no delivery. I have a flight out tomorrow morning and I have nothing. I am almost a year late in writing this, but Vanguard moved us at the end of 2022 and it was a thoroughly easy and pleasant experience. From the initial call to the virtual walkthrough (we were coming from off-Cape) to the moving days - every staff member was kind and extremely helpful. Let's face it. I don't know anybody who enjoys the process of moving. It is back breaking, stressful work that people avoid like the plague. We hired you to help my mom move to Mashpee this past weekend and the respect and professionalism that your crew showed us was amazing. On Sunday, my mom had Tom and his crew pack everything neatly as if it were a finely tuned machine and then today she had Neil, Leon, Shaba and Jamaal who not only moved with the utmost of efficiency, but to be honest were the nicest guys on the planet. Vanguard moved my family on September 10th. From start to finish, the experience was phenomenal. The move coordinator, Rebecca, did a thorough inventory of our furniture, boxes and packing needs. Incredible customer service - I have used Vanguard several times, first to receive and move an extremely rare and valuable 1930 Wurlitzer pipe organ console as well as my 1925-vintage reproducing grand piano. The next time was to move my piano from one room to another in preparation for the arrival of a new custom Allen digital classical organ. Now again they will be receiving yet another Allen custom digital classical organ for me and setting it in place in my home. BEWARE of storing your belongings here in their Hyannis warehouse. I have one word for you: MICE! I had my entire vacation home's contents stored for a year and a half while I rented to a tenant. Vanguard handled the move of my items in and out of the house - and that went well. The movers were professional and efficient. I then paid $160 per month for storage - which bumped up to $187 per month this past winter. When my tenant moved out and my items were returned to me last month, that's when the trouble started. Right after the moving truck drove away, I opened a dresser drawer that had stored down sofa throw pillows while in storage. A LIVE mouse jumped out of my drawer and ran around my living room until we were able to catch him alive and usher him out. I was completely freaked out!! We ended up dragging the whole dresser out onto the front lawn and emptying it outside - in case more mice were in the other unopened drawers. We found my down Company C sofa pillow (approx $100 value) had been destroyed and used as a nest. Droppings - and I can only imagine urine - was on all the other pillows. Feathers were everywhere. A disgusting, unsanitary situation. I called the Vanguard immediately but as it was a weekend, the main office was closed. I proceeded to unpack other boxes and found more mice droppings in a few, plus another mouse nest in a box that had one of Vanguard's moving blankets wrapping a mirror. By the time I finished packing, I also determined that several items were missing from my things....and these were just items I remembered. (When you don't see your things for over a year, it's hard to recall what is in every single box!) I emailed the owner Julie a detailed letter to express my shock at finding a live rodent in my things. And droppings in boxes. I mean, this is basic stuff. A business that is to protect and store people's items in a storage facility should have regular extermination to protect its customer's goods. I did not have my call returned. I did not have my email returned. Finally after a couple days I phoned again. Julie told me that she had never had an issue with mice, and she was sorry but I hadn't purchased the optional "full replacement coverage" insurance they offered. (Why, should I have had the foresight to pay EXTRA for insurance to protect my things from rodents when I am already paying them monthly to safely store my things???) She said all she could do was reimburse me 60 cents per pound which was the basic amount covered. Thus if my pillow weight a pound, she'd give me less than a dollar for it! I asked her to contact her business insurance agent. She should be covered for things happening to her customer's things while in her care - ie, fire, flood, rodents. She said she would call him and get back to me. Well, I heard nothing. I continued to check in via email and was told the insurance agent was away. She didn't find my missing items and she certainly didn't express any shock or apologize for the mouse and droppings. I can only deduce that this was business as usual. Finally, after not hearing back close to a month after my move, I emailed saying I would write a yelp review and contact the better business bureau if I did not get an answer and resolution to this asap. I was fed up trying to get a response. She finally responded telling me how much her company cares about the community, customers, etc... etc... and that how she and her husband (they own the business together) hadn't had any time to discuss my issues until now. 3+ weeks for a husband and wife to talk about mice in their business's warehouse? Really? They may be busy at work, but perhaps 5 minutes over dinner could be devoted to this topic? I would have expected a portion of my $850+ move reimbursed. Or perhaps a good will gesture equal to a month of storage $187. But, finally, under pressure of a bad review, she "generously" offered me $78......which she explained is the price of a Company C pillow she found "on sale" on the company's website. To add insult to injury, she then told me that she talked to her insurance agent (finally) and since Vanguard had never filed a claim before for mice, and had no other customer complaints, they CONCLUDED that probably the mouse likely came from my house with my things a year and a half prior! I ask you - if this were even true, do we really believe a mouse would jump into my packed boxes before the movers came in Nov. 2011 and then live ONLY in my things for a year and a half straight without venturing out into the rest of the warehouse to other people things? Where there is one mouse, there are others. Surely, this place is infested. I didn't even get into the fact that that some of my things are missing!! A live mouse in my things just takes the cake. Maybe you can consider having Vanguard move you, but I would NEVER store anything in their facility. read more

We paid a tidy sum for them to pack and move our belongings. So, so, so many things were damaged or outright broken in the move. Not just one or two things, enough items that it just became sad and it took a little of the joy out of moving into our new home. Some of the highlights that I remember are: * They broke off the back middle leg of a dresser claiming it came off that way while they were trying to remove it. Inconceivably impossible and dumb. They forced it off the piece of furniture such that it has a ragged edge. * They unpacked antique, fragile, 80 year old glass christmas tree ornaments that were already properly packed into boxes and PUT THEM LOOSE into a huge box filled with a variety of other heavy items. That any of them survived is nothing short of a miracle. * They did not box a large antique mirror, they just slapped a moving blanket around it. The corner is damaged and I'm not sure if it's repairable. The list of broken or damaged things is endless as well as numerous scratches and dings on wood furniture. It was like having the gang that can't shoot straight moving your belongings. They knicked and dented the new paint job in the house we'd purchased. They scratched a hardwood floor with something, I'm not sure what it was. If I could give a lower rating, I would. read more

We hired Vanguard to move us primarily based on the great prescence they had when we were choosing a mover. Communication and professionalism were top notch. Once the deposit was made though, things went bad. Communication was virtually non-existent after that. Emails and phone messages went unanswered. The guys and trucks showed up promptly and aside from their careless packing at least I can say that they were polite, but I wasn't paying for polite, I was paying for careful packing. As for communication, it got worse. They never told us what time they would be at the new place, so we assumed morning. We waited from 8AM until about 11:30 when they finally showed. Sadly, our friends who were helping us move stuff in the new place had to leave at noon! Stuff breaks during a move, we all know that. But the shear amount of stuff that got broken was stunning. The even tried forcing our sofa through a doorway that wouldn't fit, getting a nice white stripe of paint on the dark sofa, you can almost prentend it cleaned up. When you are moving you are not just paying for your stuff to go from one place to another, you are paying to not have to worry. And with Vanguard you don't get that. You think you are going to, but you won't. read more

Julie did a "Bait and Switch" on the quote to pack our belongings and put them into storage - they charged us 50% more than the quote, even though they came out and did a quote. No explanation other than "it just took longer" and "you had a lot of stuff." Since they had our belongs in storage, we had no choice but to pay. After a year, they moved our belongings out of storage and destroyed our king mattress - it got soiled so they removed the cover, never cleaned it, never put it back together, and ripped the latex core. They didn't wrap our queen mattress properly and it was soiled as well. They refused to acknowledge any responsibility for their negligence. Then they charged our credit card for the full price of the move without our authorization. They were rude and dismissive when we tried to reach a compromise with them. read more

We couldn't be happier with the service we received from Vanguard. We recently had to move from Cambridge, MA to Santa Fe, NM (in the middle of the pandemic, no less!) We weren't sure if a local company would be able to handle this cross-country move, but Vanguard responded to our query within hours. Since in-house visits were impossible because of COVID, Vanguard based their estimate on a FaceTime tour of our apartment and things (the only company to do so; this meant they were also more confident in and committed to their estimate than other moving services we considered). The quote we received was very reasonable and lower than other companies we'd looked at. Tom and his crew showed up on time (wearing PPE) and were extremely professional and friendly. Vanguard was communicative with us throughout the move, they arrived on schedule, and not a single item of ours was damaged in the 35-hour drive. And as a final (unheard of!) surprise, the cost we paid ended up being a little lower than the estimate, since packing and unpacking took less time than they'd predicted. I would recommend this company to anyone with enthusiasm -- they combine the communication and care of a local business with the infrastructure and capacity of a much larger company. Vanguard delivered a mattress from a mattress company to my home. The two movers couldn't move the mattress on their own, so a 65 yr old man had to help them move it in, the 65 yr. old man being me. In the process of carrying out the old mattress and box spring, they damaged my banister and stairs. I spoke to the owners, who took no responsibility, one of the worse moving companies I have experienced. read more

Vanguard was recommended by a local sorage company as the only local movers to use. I obtained estimates from another mover that was about $800 less. The Vanguard salesman/owner assurred me that his company was "more professional" etc., He quoted a low/high estimate, but was confident it would be the lower price, but NOT guaranteed as you pay by the hour. I asked him to pick up the boxes after he move, if necessary (as was promised to be done by the competitor). He said they normally don't but would do so. I then put that agreement on Vanguard's order form that I sent to them and paid for additional insurance.Guess what? The final bill came in exactly at the higher amount, $1000 more than the lower estimate. Then, after unpacking, I called about box pick up. The other Vanguard owner said they don't do that for free. She also said I had "no right" to write on her order form, even though it has a space for "Special Circumstances" where I wrote to have them pick up empty boxes. She acknwledged she never read the form anyway, and only the Bill of Lading was valid, not the order form I signed and agreed to pay them up to $3,080, plus additional insurance fees for a local move.. Thiese are very unprofessional business people. Do not believe anything they say. Get everything in writing and signed & returned. Do not recommend this company for these and other reasons. read more

Vanguard was hired to help my family to move furniture and possessions out of my father's home when he sold it. At the time he was in a rehabilitation facility. Some of the furniture and possessions were distributed to his children, some were thrown out, and some were placed in storage in the hope that Dad would move into assisted living. While the packing and moving process went smoothly, when my father died 5 months later, we were not able to recover all his things from storage: the beautiful sleigh bed was missing the headboard and baseboard (but still had the side boards and box spring & mattress). The kitchen table was missing its legs. Two boxes that contained the Orrefors wine glasses, cutlery, art work, etc. were missing altogether. The owner, Julie, said it was a mystery, and pointed out that we did not insure the items, so she could only pay us 60 cents/pound. How do you lose a headboard!? My perception was that Julie decided it was easier to just pay the (small) insurance claim, than exert much effort trying to find our items. When I finally got to look through the warehouse (after much negotiation) I understood - the place is chaotic. I would advise people to never store items with them, and to make sure you buy the maximum insurance. read more

I would NOT recommend Vanguard Moving Services to anyone! I tried them because I had a deadline that needed to be met- well I guess you get what you pay for. I hired them to move a piano from Harwich to my home in Sagamore, so that I would avoid having to concern myself with the well being of anyone I might ask to help me. I thought they were professionals. First off they took forever to get to my house, and I was very surprised to see that they had only sent two very small young people for the move up my flight of stairs. They struggled to get the piano up the inclined ramp for about 20 minutes, but the piano held its ground. Then just what I didn't want to happen- one of my very helpful but getting on in years in-laws who lives across the street came over and offered his help. To my shock the movers accepted his help and the piano was in my home within minutes. They charged me $558. When I called to express my disappointment with the way things had gone, the woman I spoke with told me that they would have managed to get the piano upstairs on their own. That was a complete lie. The piano was going nowhere until my in-law came to help them. You think she would have offered me a small discount for inconvenicing my in-law. After all $558 is a lot of money for a service that was only partially provided. The company lacked punctuality and professionalism- two traits every moving company should have in my opinion. read more
