I originally took my vehicle to their old Fremont location and waited a few months before writing this review. I had cosmetic and mechanical work done on my vehicle; and overall, the value of the service provided was excellent. While the panel placement was not perfect, the paint blending to the old panels was flawless: the shop perfectly matched the colors, and I was surprised the shop somewhat replicated the orange peel effect characteristic of an OEM BMW paint job (see PPG Enviracryl clear coat) instead of a boring mirror finish! As for mechanical issues that arose after the initial work, there was a minor oversight after the initial work but the shop was willing to make it right and provided a loaner vehicle in the meantime. Communication between Josiah and I throughout the process was great: he not only was patient to provide repair updates but also was proactive in providing updates when there were supply chain issues. Overall, I am very glad a family friend recommended me to take my vehicle to this shop. read more

At this place, the customer is always wrong--yes, you read that right, always wrong. Don't even think about questioning them. The mechanic is impatient and rude, and the owner's son (judging by his age and last name) is combative and impulsive. If you try to clarify a pricing discrepancy, here's how the conversation might go, it certainly went that way for me: Me: This isn't the price I was quoted over the phone. Owner's Son: I go to church, I am an American. Me: What does being an American have to do with this? Are you implying something? Owner's Son: I don't care if you give me a bad review. I have enough business, so I don't care. Me: But the price you're telling me now is different from what I was quoted. Owner's Son: Are you accusing me of effing lying? Get out. Bye. So there you have it. I genuinely hope they improve, but as of now, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you're thinking about going through insurance for repairs-like I did. I would highly recommend it. I been here before and the repairs are top notch. My repair advisor, Danny, is upfront about cost and materials they will be using to repair the car. They are also keen on updating you on anything that arrives and will be your advocate for the best repair options as insurance usually wants the cheaper repair/materials. However, the cheaper repair/materials are not always the best option in the long run. Definitely, one of the best auto-body shops in Fremont with better than OEM quality that shows. read more

A negative rating for the he owner of this shop, Liu Lei (Louie Liu), is currently engaged in illegal conduct by withholding my car. After agreeing to an initial oil leak repair quote of over $1,000, Liu suddenly demanded nearly an additional $1,000 for supposed new issues, which I immediately rejected. After I refused, he attempted to undervalue my car and offered to purchase it at a price below its Kelly Blue Book market value. Upon deciding to retrieve my vehicle, Liu avoided contact and is now demanding nearly $2,000 to release it, despite having no legal right to hold it. He has falsely claimed that a verbal agreement obligates me to sell my car to him and has refused to return my car and car-key though I was physically in the shop TWICE to pay the negotiated price up to $1300. This situation is ongoing, and Liu's actions are a serious violation of the law. read more

I went to Vanguard Auto Body shop to get my timing belt, steering wheel pump, and alternator belt replaced. I provided a quote of the exact part numbers and their prices directly from the dealership and requested to the owner that they use these original factory parts from the manufacturer. The owner assured me that they will purchase original manufacturer parts and charged me for the exact prices on the quote I received from the dealer for parts. Upon inspection of the completed job by another body shop, it was clear that the parts were not original parts and were aftermarket parts. This was easily confirmed as original parts have distinct markings on them to indicate it is an authentic original part. When we confronted the owner with photos, he said that since we checked the timing belt on our own, we no longer qualify for his 80,000 mile warranty for the part. He would not provide us a refund and kept on saying after market parts are the same quality as parts directly from the car manufacturer. We ended up filing a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (part of the Department of Consumer Affairs) who assigned an government agent to perform an investigation on what transpired. We ended up receiving a full refund from Vanguard Auto Body after the investigation concluded. I highly suggest any customer facing the same issues to submit a report to resolve any disputes in a timely manner. read more

I wish I could give a negative star to the owner Lei Liu of this business. He is a big liar. He charged me for the major tune-up and brake jobs but he didn't replace the timing belt, water pump, and belts. After I found out that he didn't replace the parts, I came back to ask him then he threaten to punch me then I had to call the police. This owner is unhonest person. Please do not let him repair your car. Beware. read more

Waited a couple months to write this review just to be sure. I had an unfortunate incident with my fairly new VW Atlas making a sharp turn into a narrow parking structure entrance and scraping a handrail. Rear right door was dented and scratched and the bottom molding took some damage as well. I got quotes from 4 different body shops in the area and Vanguard owner Louie's quote was literally half of the next lowest price (decided not to go through insurance). In fact, I was a bit skeptical as some of the other shop owners had mentioned the corners that can be cut in repairs to lower the price. I almost past it up as to good to be true. However, I can honestly say that after the repair I couldn't tell where the damage had been on the door. Louie also repaired the damaged molding where the other shops said I would need to purchase a replacement (and would have had to buy new as this is a brand new model). Louie is a smooth talker but his work speaks for itself. Turn around time was only two days and his son set me up with a free loner for the interim. Always good to know a reliable body shop. I had one in the last city we lived in and now I have one here; though hopefully I will never need their services again. read more

And their facilities is top notch, I would highly recommend this shop for any car maintenance. My family have 2001 BMW740iL, 2014 Subaru WRX, 1998 Toyota Sienna and 2008 Toyota Avalon. They do the maintenance and repaired all my family's cars. Honest and detail inspection, and provides good suggestions. Moreover their charge is fairly reasonable. In 2013, my 1995 Honda Accord needed coolant change, and asked their help since I know the owner goes to church. I specifically told them to just simply drain the old and refill with the new coolant I bought. Mr. Liu Said: No, I will do it professionally. Then I saw the hoses got tear off and tap water run through the whole engineer and then hoses put back and added my coolant. I drove my car back without problem. However two days later, steam came out of my car engine, I checked it's a hose leaking( teared off by them caused damage). so my car towed to them, replaced with new hose. a few days later, steam come out again, this time it is the radiator, and I decided not go to their place any more but let other shop replaced the radiator. Originally a no problem car, going through their hand, then problem after problem and I spent few hundreds extra there plus other damages to my car due to over heat, from that one year later I donated my car. read more

Absolute shysters, the promised a lot and never delivered. Matter in fact, my car was after the shop visit in much worse shape then before I brought it there. It had cost me many dollars at the dealership to get it back together. The owner hires shop managers and pays them "under the table" Latest example was a guy named Steve Horn who ripped several clients off and other businesses such as vendors etc. The owner Loui is a self proclaimed Christian but acts like a crook and tries to hide behind his employees. All empty promises after the shop messed up perfectly working items on the car such as a damaged rear bumper with a super bad paint job. I was never told that they even damaged my rear bumper as the car was only in for a hood paint job. The list goes on and on. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of this joint and even more important is to spread the word about this dishonest business. read more
