It is dark inside and smells "old". Our room was nicely decorated in old Victorian. It was overlooking the corner of 2nd & C right over the Irish pub. Everything was clean and nice inside. Bathroom was small but well stocked with supplies. The issue is more with the area. We took a walk after we arrived through the marina and old town area and concluded that we didn't feel terribly safe. We decided to stay in after dark. There were plenty of homeless and very "sketchy" people walking around talking loudly to themselves, etc. Know the rooms have no air conditioning so the hosts opened a couple of windows facing C street, which we left open all night, hoping that street wouldn't be terribly noisy. Fortunately, the Irish pub below us closes around 9:00, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was the same. By 9:30 or so the street was very quiet with only the occasional car and lone, loud motorcycle around midnight. Also there is no TV in the room, so bring your own entertainment! The WiFi didn't work either. We couldn't find the WiFi the hosts provided on check in. Overall, this area of town is trying to revive and the hosts are trying to bring back this hotel. Just be aware!

All of the chairs in the dining room sink so low, you can just rest your chin on the table and shovel it in. What I found most problematic with this hotel is the lip service to ADA accommodations. There are no grab bars in the bathroom, not even soap dishes you could cling too if you slipped on the very slippery tub floor. The lighting and the switches to the lighting are incredible dim in the room making impossible to see with black on black backgrounds. For low visibility people, the randomly placed 'mood' lighting keeps people like me in the dark. Finally, for people with physical disabilities, getting one's luggage on a cart, then to an elevator, then into a room with extremely heavy doors that swing back so quickly, an injury is almost guaranteed. Unfortunately, I experienced all of this at Holiday Inn express in Eureka. I mentioned some of my difficulties to the registration desk, staff, and as nice as they were, they didn't care... they say they'll remodel next year, but if they really cared about providing accommodations for Americans with disabilities, they make the changes now.

Work trip. Hotel…read morewas good, clean, daily cleaning is by request only. Breakfast is good and free. Customer service from Tina Guevara over the phone was horrible. I checked out early morning on a Sunday and security was filling in for front desk staff that called out/no show. He didn't know or was trained to do front desk. I called the next morning on Monday and shared my checkout experience and receipt inaccurate checkout date. Tina didn't let me finish my explanation/experience. She even threaten to hang up and end the call. Poor customer service from Tina G. I hope someone above her sees this review. When I come back I would go recommend another hotel or best western in old town.

Our room ,203, was clean with a king bed and a small balcony enough to step out for fresh air. It faced the Sportsman Store with RVs parked all hours of the day so I wasn't very comfortable stepping outside or to have the dark curtains open. Large mini fridge with freezer and a microwave. You get an table with 2 chairs and a desk/desk chair. The location was perfect as it's just about an 9mins drive to the sequoia zoo skywalk and the dunes. Nearby there's also In N Out, drive thru fast food restaurants, plenty of stores and gas stations. There's an ice machine and vending machines on each floor. Dogs are welcome for a fee, $30. The hot tub and pool area is gorgeous. Provided a very nice ambiance during the day and night. Parking free and complimentary breakfast was decently basic.

The front desk ladies Sarah and Rebecca were awesome in greeting us at checkin and helping ensure everyone was settled in our rooms. The food was great a few of us had the beef bourguignon ribs. Meat was Tender and the sauce very favorable. The pork chop was also very good. Wine pairing recommendations perfect. Our rooms were cozy and we were impressed with the texture of the robes and towels with a softness and fluffiness. Thanks to the Carter house team

As all the other tables around us were getting their plates we were left sitting there for way too long, the waitresses kept telling that it was the kitchen fault. It is an older motel, but it's in a great location, close to anywhere in town, and very close to old town Eureka. For what I got for the price, I was very happy. You check in via a remote screen in the lobby, it's still very efficient, and the people on the other end of the screen are very friendly and helpful. As I mentioned, it was an older room, and there were a few chips and Nicks here and there, but that was just cosmetic. There is a desk to eat or work on, plugs to charge my gear, a TV with a good picture, the bathroom was spotless, it had a shower instead of a tub. The shower did not have a grab bar or a shower mat, so you do need to be careful. The bed was very comfortable, and I had a very good nights sleep. The Wi-Fi was fast enough to stream video. The room also had a fridge, a microwave, and a coffee pot. What was especially nice was, I had to leave the hotel after only two nights, because I needed to stay with a sick family member at home. I called Chase who called the hotel, and the hotel agreed to let me cancel after two nights, and they refunded the remaining two nights back to my account. They were very understanding. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

It is what it is. If you want luxury, pony up three times as much and don't choose a motel built in 1960 and located right on 101. Sure, it's dated, has cinder block walls and is showing wear & tear. But it's a clean, safe place to rest your head for the night. And the price is right. As for the negative reviews, what do you expect from a budget motel? Eureka's Waldorf Astoria? Haters gonna hate.

The beds were comfy (we were given two Queen beds) and included basic amenities that we mostly use when staying out of town: free WiFi, a flat screen TV, small fridge, and a mini microwave. This is a non-smoking hotel. Property amenities was supposed to include free breakfast but they discontinued it due to Covid. Instead they gave us 20% vouchers to Denny's for each of the 3 days we were staying. We were able to use one. We arrived after 10:00p and the owner who checked us in was nice and super friendly. She apologized for inconvenience of remodeling work being done on the 4th floor (we stayed on the 3rd floor). The side door which was stairs was not the best in appearance but it was convenient because it took us directly to our room upstairs. Free parking. The hotel is proximity to many restaurants and some attractions including a couple of museums. We went to Costco for gas and it was 1.2 mi from here, 0.9 mi to check out the members only Carson Mansion, and for some delicious food at Brick & Fire Bistro it was only 0.9 mi. aaaannnd Highway 101 cuts through Eureka... we were practically on the Redwood Highway.
