DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. Hell, don't even come here if you do have an appointment. The staff at this "'mega office" is severely understaffed. They only had 3 employees working and there was a massive line of people waiting outside with false hope. Even the line for appointments was long! You have to WAIT OUTSIDE in the valley. That's just crazy to me. We waited here for three hours on a Tuesday at 2pm only to be turned away and told they wouldn't be able to accommodate us. Sure sure, the stressed out, underpaid federal employee warned us that he can't guarantee that everyone in line would be seen, but they really should have cut the line so that people didn't waste 3 hours in line for absolutely nothing. He was clearly overwhelmed and annoyed, maybe by other people who might've yelled at him in the past? No clue. No one was yelling at him when we were there - he was kinda rude and dismissive to the 50 of us who were waiting in line at his mercy. What a GD waste of time. We ended up going to the Glendale location for an appointment the next day and the experience was night and day. The review for that location is in my profile, but seriously go there instead!! Also, we came here in the fall for an appointment before and the woman taking our daughter's passport photo was very impatient and did not really care to give us retakes for our daughter's first passport photo. Sure, this isn't a premium service we're paying for, but have some compassion for our shy 3 year old. There's plenty of parking in the lot next to the building. So, they take appointments and also walk-ins. I have an appointment at 2 PM. And, it's 2:30 and multiple walk-ins have been called up while I still wait (walk-ins are called by number, appointments by name). This is ridiculous and defeats the whole concept of "appointment". I did not have an appointment because, although I made one, it was almost an entire month out. So, I was a "walk in" after only 4.5 hours. I arrived at 8am and the place opens at 9:30am. Some people were up earlier and sat (brought their own chair) in line at 5am. At 8am the line was substantial (see pic). We got in and had our documents checked (someone also checked them when we got to about fifth person before the door) then we received a number (#88). They were on #70. We waited from about 10:38am until our number was called around 12:20pm or so. The postal server looked over all documents (birth certificate, driver's license [if you make a copy of BC and DL ahead of time you avoid a copy fee of $1 per page], application, passport pictures [taken in advance, otherwise $15 at their office], and then check. Fees: $130 for adult to State Department of Transportation $60 for expedited (7-9 weeks, otherwise you can avoid this and wait 10-13 weeks) added to check to State Department of Transportation $35 to USPS for documentation process (a debit card can be used for this fee) We left with receipt at 12:38pm. So about 15 minutes or less to turn in all paperwork with no incidents other than they charged us $1 for having to make an extra copy of driver's license. read more

OK at first I was gonna give three out of five. But today's experience truly change that. Von and other staff members were so helpful and lovely, even though they were busy and had other customers yelling at them.. I also was on the verge of yelling too just because it's very unclear. It's very hot. There's no wait time regardless if you have an appointment or not, but it's understandable when it comes to government or official offices. Regardless, this review is strictly for Von! I have been in here multiple times for passport duties. Different years.I have also been in different offices for passport. The only difference is, this location is always lovely. The people are just so kind and pleasant and helpful. And i just realized that today. Every time we come to this location, we are seen IMMEDIATELY. We always come with an appointment, of course (be responsible and proactive about this). Don't expect for you to be seen and be in and out if you are walking in. Duh. We literally came 10 mins before 11 am. Greeted at the door, checked in, seated, then waited for our name to be called, picture, signature and paid. All with such a great conversation! From the person who greeted us at the door (Aja, i believe is her name), to the lady who took care of us (Vilma). We were out by 11:27am. Actually, in our car by 11:27 am. Note: (what made my appt quick, i think) - have an appointment - Have all the documents with you. Research that please! Be about it! - fill out the forms at home and print it out! So you don't stand outside filling out forms in the air like a ... - this location has a photo option, so you can take your photos here. (One time we got our pictures taken at cvs, brought it here and their margins are incorrect and we had to re-do them) just get it here to be safe. - and be nice. It's not hard to be nice. We actually had a great experience here! I made an appointment for first thing in the morning and only had to wait a couple of minutes before being seen. We had all of our documents ready to go which helped the process go seamlessly. Everything was done quickly and efficiently. This location Always has a LONG WAITING TIME!!! Short on staff, Slow staff, Long lone like minimum of 3-4hrs everytime we want to do something. Why they don't add more staff??? For a simple task you have to spend half a day here in line to get in. There's two lines when arriving, the one on the right is walk ins and it was so long it looked like people had been waiting for hours, i was in the appointment line and waited less than 10 minutes. If you were not able to mail your passport request in to receive your passport in a timely manner, or couldn't get an appointment sooner then you would like, you end up having to line up here. They do encourage you several times online that making an appointment is the best option or mail-in if you are eligible to do so. The website travel.state.gov gave good explanations and a video to watch as to what to do in any circumstance. It allowed you to fill out the paperwork needed before you had to come and print it from home. It told you what paperwork to get, the copies necessary to make, how to take the picture, etc. it gave you which place you can make an appointment for the time you wanted to come. So if you were able to do that, you avoided the big line. I don't know what happened to my brain, but It slipped my mind until 6 wks before my trip to renew my passport! I bumped into a friend at the copy room at work and he told me NOT to go on a Saturday. It's a zoo if you don't have an appt. So I took the day off on a Friday May 31, got up early and got there by 7:45 am. There were already 8 people ahead of me. I brought a camp chair, good book, snacks and water as I was prepared to wait there for hours from the reviews I read. The only annoying thing is there was a lady who decided to smoke in line. Ugh.... She was two people ahead of me. If I knew she was going to light up, I would have offered to save her spot if she could have been considerate and went somewhere else to smoke! Other than that, I just read a lot. Once they opened at 9:30, our line dwindled to my turn to go in at 10:45. Priority goes to those who made an appointment and are in a separate line on the other side of the door to enter. The staff were very helpful. They handed out the correct documents to fill out outside if you didn't already have them. Once inside, they look through your paperwork and give you a number if you followed all protocol on what to bring, they ask if you need a picture and they do that for you there (don't know if it was an extra charge). Once inside, I got to sit in a waiting area for 25 minutes before they called me to a table and I was done by 11:15! The person who helped me was friendly and made good suggestions so I could get my passport sooner. He told me it should be mailed to me in 2 to 3 weeks with 1 to 2 day priority mail (extra $) once it is processed. I've read other people's reviews of awfully rude people servicing them. Maybe I lucked out that day because it was a Friday. Maybe the Monday shift is bad? Though my experience was easy, the reason I gave three stars is once you are inside, you can't even use their restrooms.... So if you have to go, you can't. I knew this going in from other people's reviews. That, to me is appalling! If you are servicing people, you should have restrooms for them to use at least when they are inside. When I walked past the line as I was leaving, the line didn't seem as long. So maybe late morning is a good time on a Friday? Some suggestions: Take a friend or family member. Then you can take turns going across the street to the Taco Bell to get food or use the facilities if you are still outside waiting for a long time. I was going to make a friend outside to tag team if needed. Bringing a camp chair helped me a lot! Easy to assemble, disassemble and carry. Hope all this helps somebody else! read more

This place doesn't make any sense. I understand we need or should make an appointment to get a passport, but this place offers walk-ins. Great, not really. The representatives only take people waiting with appointments, so how does this make sense you offer people to go stand in hopes that you take one of us. Why is it they have 3 people working on a Friday? Why can't they designate one representative to help walk-ins only? If you can't help walk-ins then just say by appointment only. This is false advertising, extremely frustrating. They also have a rep Lewis whom is rude, racist if you ask me and anyone that was in line this afternoon. Terrible for walk ins Appointments are typically 4 weeks out so decided to walk in. Came at 3:30 and was told at 4:30 that no walk ins are accepted!! There were people waiting for over 4 hours from 11 am and they also could not get in that is so terrible. The only way to be sure you can get in is be on the line by 6 am and they open at 9:30 AM I really don't understand why it's so terrible that people cannot get an appointment quickly. They should have more people so that at least we can get appointments at least one week out so we can get our passports done quickly instead of this ridiculous thing of waiting for at least four weeks to get an appointment or if you do a walk-in basically not even having much chance to get it. read more

Saturday morning walk in appointment. 8:30 AM arrival, long line of people already there. Maybe 25 people ahead of me. Know that they will prioritize people who show up with appointments; those people wait in another line. When there is a break in appointments, that's when walk ins are ushered in. The line will move and then you will stand in the same place for awhile. And repeat. The line is shaded. I took a book and some snacks. I didn't bring water because I had read there weren't restrooms avaliable. I finally entered the building at 11:30/11:45 AM. The attendant reviewed my documents (I brought a passport photo with me) and said I was good to go. I took a number. Once I was inside, I was able to sit down in AC and waited 15 minutes? The attendant was very friendly and processed my application efficiently. Note that you can use credit to pay for your passport but anything regarding the Department of state must be paid with debit, cash, or check. I left at 1:00 PM. In summary, if I were to do it again, I would get there at 7:00 or 7:30 AM. I had pushed it with 8:30 AM. Do I recommend this? NO, make an appointment. So much easier. But in tough situations, this is a fine option. Know that it will take most of your day. But get there early, be patient, and know what you're in for. read more

Do not, I repeat do not come here without an appointment. You will need 4-5 hours to do complete a passport renewal. Appointments are a 4-6 week wait. Plan ahead if you can. I could not wait that long and needed it done sooner. There are no bathrooms, you have to stand outside. Some people bring chairs so they can sit. They have 10 stations but only 2-4 have employees working at them. When they opened at 9:30 there were 2 employees working with 100-150 people waiting outside until 10-10:30. It's awful. read more

Today I came in cus I was told by my local postal office that I need to report my stolen passport to a "passport office". Upon my arrival there is a huge line and I was not going to waste my whole day just to ask a simple question regarding my stolen/lost passport. I walked to the very front of the line to ask for help regarding my concern, which a man practically chewed me out for cutting in front of him. I simply was not trying to cut I'm not that type of person and I was not there to process any type of paper work to obtain a passport. I wanted to know if I was in the correct place where I could get instruction on what to do regarding my lost passport AND if yes, I would more than happily make line like everyone else. I think it is absurd that there is not an information stand or at-least a person available to ask a general question. This place gave me a real bad experience when I just wanted to know if I was in the right place or how I can receive help. The lady that helped me was helpful but she seamed as if I was a bother to her by the way/tone of her responses. This place needs to do better and have someone there at all times to answer questions to the public because I'm sorry but I was not about to make a 5hr line just to ask a simple quick question.
