I rarely write reviews especially bad ones but this really bothers me. I called and talked to a sales associate who to be honest was not really paying attention to what I wanted. He said he didn't need to come to my house and that he only needed pictures, which I supplied while on the phone with him. He said I would have a quote within 5 days. After two weeks I texted him asking for a status, which he never replied. He never even confirm he got the photos I sent the day we talked. I called the company to ask about this and they said they would follow up. I Finally received a quote from them, days after they said they would follow up. The specs were wrong and the quote was discouraging saying we don't recommend this or that. They didn't offer any options or suggestions on other ways to do what I wanted. Basically this was a waste of my time. After not hearing from them when I called and complained, I called another company. The other company came to my house the next day and measured. They gave me serval options on what would be best for what i needed. I am excited with how this new company treated me and made me feel like what I wanted was important and doable. I felt none of this with Van Nuys Awning. I would advise anyone to look at other options. read more

Over 15 years ago Van Nuys Awning installed a wire slide sunshade and several traditional awnings on our home at Lake Arrowhead, CA. This past winter we had over 7 feet of snow in a three day period. The frames of the sunshade and one of the awnings were damaged by the wight of the snow and ice sliding off of our two story roof. When I contacted Van Nuys Awning to see if they would be able to repair the items, they could not have been more helpful. The administrative staff at Van Nuys Awning worked with me to find a time that was convient for me to have the damaged assessed. When the date for the assessment came, the company's owner came to our home to do the assessment and provide a proposal for the needed repairs. Turns out he had been involved in the original installation. Upon accepting the proposal for repairs, I was given a tentative date for that work. It was several weeks out due, in part, to the fact that new parts needed to be fabricated. To my suprise, the company still had the plans from the orginal installation, which helped speed the fabrication process along. Before the date promised, I recieved contact from the company's owner with the good news that the parts were ready, and he wanted to know when he could return to make the repairs. He arrived to do that work on the date promised, and at the time we had agreed to. The installation went smoothly, and while he was here, he gave the entire original installation an inspection and tune-up. With my house facing west, this awning was used daily for half the year plus any other warm/hot days the rest of the time. So when I decided to replace the awning, I was very happy to find out they have the same color available. So I called for an estimate and made an appointment for a measure. Our designer recommended Van Nuys Awning to me. I had heard good things about them and the Yelp reviews were strong so I reached out. Their rep was supposed to call me to confirm when he would come. Instead he just showed up unannounced, but fortunately I was home. He and his brother, evidently a rep in training, spent quite a bit of time here measuring and discussing the best options for my space, which is a relatively large job with multiple awnings. He told me I would hear from him with pricing estimates by the following Wednesday. It has been over a month and I never heard from him or anyone else at the company again. I guess it's fortunate that I learned how unreliable they are before I ordered from them. I will try another company instead. read more

Called for service on an awning VNA installed some time ago. Took weeks to get response/service scheduled. When they arrived they quickly diagnosed the issue but didn't come with the basic paddle switch and cover that was needed to be replaced. This caused a second visit and charge which took time to get scheduled. Then they didn't arrive but rather called to push it out stating the tech came earlier but had the wrong part. The only issue is no one was at the property and you cannot access the property otherwise. Appointment was rescheduled to the next day. Guys arrived on time but only brought the switch not the replacement cover agreed upon during the first visit and was charged over $500 for a 15 minute visit. In total, almost $1,000 just to replace the paddle switch and they didn't even do the complete job as the old cover was still used. Not a happy customer and will be finding a new company for future awning needs! read more

I called to set up a quote - spoke with Tino, who was curt and unfriendly. Against my better judgment, I booked the appointment anyway. Tino shows up and immediately I felt his negative energy. He just looks me up and down- Not a hello, not a smile- horrible attitude; made me feel uncomfortable in my own home. With respect to the quote, he had only negative things to say about what COULDN'T be done instead of coming up with innovative solutions to close the deal. Sorry, but I only work with people who think outside the box and make things happen! Every word out of his mouth was negative and his overall demeanor was unpleasant. He irritated me to the core. This company has the worst customer service. I do not trust them. I asked for an estimate. It took them a week to come and look. The guy "Andy" said he would send the estimate the next day. I waited a week and called. Their stupid person whom answered the phone said she would get back to me. I waited 2 days and called again. They were so rude. She had an attitude. The guy Andy is never there. I never got the estimate. I am giving my business to someone else. The job I was trying to hire them is a big job. More than $30,000. After 2 weeks, prior to our board meeting, we contacted them again asking for an update as we needed to get moving with the project. We left a message and no one ever returned our call. We have known of Van Nuys Awning for 30 years now and we are still benefiting from their products. They are a very professional company that does excellent work. If you've ever visited their show room you have seen it for yourself. The place is awesome! They have a place where they display different styles of awnings, a gigantic sewing department, an area where they weld the frames, and even a graphics department. The sales rep Joe knows what he is talking about and is extremely helpful in suggesting awning styles and colors. He's definitely a master craftsman! We have had three awnings made by them. The first two were the same frame and for the third one, Joe suggested a different style which totally gave our house a new look. We love it! During the many years we have contracted with VNA, they made several other things for our home. We had them do some pads for our bar stools that are kind of bamboo-looking to tie into our Tiki lounge. We also have an umbrella that they made that has lasted what seems like forever. The color is still dark green and has not faded! They also do boat covers (ours is still covering our boat after 15 years!). What else can I say? The place is amazing. read more

These folks installed a retractable awning at my parents' home about 25 years ago. The mechanism is still working PERFECTLY but the fabric finally needed replacing after decades exposed to the sun. Andy came to do measurements; he was a pro. Great pricing compared to others (2 companies never bothered to return calls). The installers arrived early on the day scheduled - Jesus and Henry worked quickly, efficiently and professionally. I am convinced there will be NO issues - they tested the system and it is PERFECT. Van Nuys Awning, over the years has done two awning covering for my house, but this year I threw them a tough one. The patio swing set I originally bought at Costco was looking shabby, and I could not find a replacement for it that was anywhere near the same quality. The frame was still ok, but the seat and canopy needed replacing. While it took a couple of visits and adjustments to both the seat covering and the canopy, they ensured I was completely satisfied with the results. Can't ask for better service than that. read more
