They have baby time on Mondays which was the purpose of the visit. It took place in a large space and was very interactive with bouncing, lifting, and puppets. There is a large kid section with lots of board books here. They also have a large rug area with puzzles and toys which we really enjoyed after the baby time. I really enjoyed my interactions here and plan to return again soon for both baby time and book check out.

They do a lot of children's activities so if you're looking for a super quiet library this is not the place for you. Depending on the time of day parking can be a challenge. They have a small lot but it fills up quickly. There's also a ton of street parking but you may have to walk a block or two.

It often gets overlooked between the hustle and bustle of the congested, busy Oxon Hill Road traffic and slue of neighboring businesses. As an avid bookworm and lover of books, I've seen this library many times while on my commute riding home but today I was off and decided to stop by and venture in. Although not much to look at on the outside, I must say I was impressed with the interior of the library and its collection. Although the collection of books are small compared to other libraries around, they were still relevant and current. What makes this library special is that they have a huge collection of African-American history and literature..... actually, as I learned from the head librarian, it is one of the largest collections of African-American history books and literature in the Washington DC area. I spent some significant time and this section of the library and really enjoyed it. Lots of knowledge and artifacts for the avid readers and knowledge seekers. I also couldn't help but notice a community puzzle that was laid out on a table that was really cool! I even added a couple of the missing pieces myself and found it to be very cathartic--relaxing. In all, neighborhood libraries can be a bit of lost nostalgia, but I find these resources to be very important in today's digital world. It's great to step into a space and actually feel, read, engulf yourself into reading materials as oppose to glaring screens and tablets. I highly recommend stopping by this library and giving it your patronage. It is open to all, whether you are a DC or Maryland resident. The staff is truly knowledgeable and seemed very happy to help with my questions/requests. The facilities is fully Wi-Fi enabled and can service a great stop for quick teleworking. It's the historical reference for me about this library and the vast collection of African-American literature that makes this place a stand out. They will even go back to the old collections and pull something out for you. They even have a wide variety of events, programs, including educational programs and lectures. And if they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it from another library and have it brought in for you. Not to mention, your library card gives you full access to digital materials and a library service called Libby, which contains just about anything you would find both old and current in any bookstore for free. We have been to a few libraries for story time and Oxon Hill is hands down the best. They do a great job picking books that engage the kiddos. Plus the music/movement breaks are always on point. The staff is always friendly, engaging, and welcoming. I adore this library and highly recommend their story time for the little humans. One problem I've been experiencing frequently is that almost 50% of the time when I'm returning more than 5 books to the counter, at least 1 book will get marked as not returned even though I did return it. It's just a bit inconvenient to have to call the library to report that. they ll do a search and have always fount it eventually. The only other library I normally go to is central and this has only happened once at central.

I brought home many a craft, including a bubble blower made of a Styrofoam cup, washcloth, rubber band, straw and Palmolive. My little brother drank it by accident. Thank goodness he didn't eat the construction paper pig I made! We also had summer reading challenges on which we dutifully recorded the books we read on a poster and turned the poster in at the end of the summer for Pizza Hut coupons. Now, my favorite haunt is the Central Library when I'm back to visit...it's more spacious, has more parking and has more resources, but Cherrydale always holds a special place in my heart.

If you're not from east of the river, it's just off of the highway on your way to the National Harbor. The man who designed it is also the genius who designed the National African-American History and Culture Museum. He created this library to be "a brutalist treehouse." It stands on a hill overlooking the city and does give off the treehouse vibe. Although it's one building, it looks as if it has several towers with the majority of the space outside of the bottom floor. Once you enter, walk up the stairs to the second floor for the kids section and the top floor with the rest of the books, computers, private rooms, and community space. There are many windows letting in natural light. This library's programming is on point. They have poetry days, hip hop dance classes, and photography workshops. If you're into design and photography, this is a true hidden gem in the city.

It's right next to the Eastern Market Metro near Barracks Row and the actual historic Eastern Market. It's in a single building and most of the collection is on the ground level. They have DVDs, music, books and a decent children's section. They have wifi and computers to use if you need them. The bottom floors houses the bathrooms and once a month, they sell bargain books down there.

Like other reviewers have pointed out, the computers are popular, so opt for a laptop if you've got one. I've always had good customer service here, and I'm usually just popping in for some quick read or a DVD right after work. They also have seminars, discussions, family programs, workshops, tax forms, etc downstairs. DC library in general: I also like to go to the website and reserve DVDs in a series in order to place on hold. Just remember when you pick up your DVDs to get them "unlocked" so you can actually watch them. And you can only renew them once. Also, MLK central library has the best selection of everything, but it's definitely a more urban library, and this place just has a nice neighborhood feel. **Correction on the hours: due to budget cuts, the library is CLOSED on Sundays. The rest of the hours remain the same. (MWFSat 9:30am-5:30pm, TTh 1-9pm) For those of us who work traditional 9-5s, I will see you Tuesday/Thursday night.
