Honestly I was wondering if I had completely lost my mind when I agreed to a trim that the hairdresser charged $105 for but in comparison to the other person who wanted $200+ and being in vacation in desperate need of a trim with a job that makes it difficult to schedule such appointments in advance-I took "advantage" of the opportunity lol. Well it was definitely not a total waste of money considering how comfortable I felt being in a new salon, with a new hairdresser, in a different state and super upscale. I've never felt comfortable like that in any salon I've frequented in Massachusetts and may be quite the Karen going forward should any hairdresser make me feel beneath them, cause I assure you, you got nothing on Andrew and it'd be the equivalent of a hair person-but only speaking to the encounters with snooty hairdressers that I now know have no business thinking they a special anything.-true story. He was personable but not overly talkative where you knew he was paying attention to what he was paid to be doing which is always a comfort. But I felt comfortable immediately: Andrew is a true professional and very much passionately, educated about his job. Upon sitting in his chair he asked what I was looking for and he understood every single word related to my hair and what I was looking for in addition to pulling out a white envelope (first thing he found on hand) for contrast because I was wearing a black shirt and I'd like to say I forgot my hair isn't blonde anymore but I guess I honestly didn't realize my shirt color mattered because it never had before but again, true professional. He was equally enthusiastic about my choice to have it blown out as I was apparently the 4th curly haired client that day and they had all opted for the diffuser...no thank you, please extend the convenience of my haircut for more than one day-plus, how on earth in Georgia do people rock even professionally diffused hair? I knew mine would curl up naturally in a hot minute (no pun intended) even if blown out and I really enjoyed that Andrew understood that too. Amazing vibes and ambiance with friendly staff and offered beverages. I wanted to ask Andrew to take a pic with me and I believe he would have been happy to but I was literally late for a very important date. I have tried a number of hair salons all over Atlanta and god, Van Michael just does it best. I love that their stylists either specialize in cut or color. While it's much more time consuming to get your hair done by two different people, it's so worth it. When I left Atlanta I literally let my hair grow out - it was to my waist. I was away for 19 years I missed the way Harry cut my hair. Eve has been doing my color since I moved back to Atlanta. She is incredible! I feel so special when Eve & Harry are doing my hair. They discuss with each other and me what they're doing. Eve is genuinely interested in how your hair looks after the cut has been done. Her highlight placement is always perfect. The color, shades and tones are complimentary to your skin tone. I drastically change it up every time I go in. You know you've got the best when you feel dazzling when you walk out. Ok so I haven't gotten my hair cut in two maybe three years because I guess I'm picky about my hair. The last time I got my hair cut I told the lady that I wanted long layers and she cut three layers like she was cutting hedges. Girl. So, my cousin mentioned Van Michael salon and I set an appointment...finally. I went in for my appointment and I love that there's a coat rack and they give you water and get you ready for your appointment so the whole experience was very classy tbh. Then I met my hairdresser (Ginger) and I talked with her effortlessly which is surprising for me because as much as I can talk.. I don't really talk like that to strangers. So, I felt very comfortable and at home with Ginger. The number one thing that I loved though is that I told her I wanted long layers and she asked me detailed questions that no one has ever asked before. She did a fantastic job on my hair cut and then styled it like a rockstar. I think I was only in there for an hour too which is crazy fast for my thick hair. First, I want to say I love the stylist who cut my hair, Billy Jo. She was amazing and my cut is amazing. Only go to this salon to get a hair cut from Billy. If this review was only for Billy it would be 5 stars. Whatever you do, do not get color here. The stylist who colored my hair left me wanting. I did not like the set-up of this salon with one person doing the cut and another person doing the color. I was a new client and they schedule my color with Maxwell. While I was trying to talk to her about what I wanted and explain my inspo pics she kept saying she got it and knew what to do. I had a bad experience at a previous salon and wanted to make sure she fully understood what I was looking for. She even told me I probably just had a bad experience was nervous. And I should have been. The base color is fine, but the few highlights I can see look like harsh brassy orange streaks right at my forehead and are not visible anywhere else on my head. She also only did half the work and let her assistant do the rest. She did not even come check the color before having the assitant rinse and put a gloss on. I've never had a stylist not check my color before rinsing. Once they started to dry the hair I was very apprehensive about it. The assistant grabbed Maxwell. She told me it was the lighting in the salon and it would fade nicely in a week or two. They even walked me outside to see it in different lighting. I just gave up at this point. They styled my hair and I paid for the service and left. If you want a personalized color and experience with a stylist who takes the time to listen to you and pay attention to what is happening with your hair do not go here. They are set-up like an assembly line with multiple people doing different steps of the process. The cost of service vs what you get Is appalling. I'm now stuck with hair I honestly want to shave off my head because I hate it so much or pay a different salon another 250-300 to fix it. read more
