I canceled the other place and changed my uber route to there. I literally had my luggage with me so I was a little embarrassed but I needed this done immediately lol. I came in and it was the cutest decor upon entrance and everyone was friendly. I was greeted by Rose and she was nice. She looked and said " I'll do your stomach", um they don't do that in St. Louis at all. She also knew I shaved and mentioned the reason and what happens when you shave. I told her it was a life or death reason I shaved( out the country and no where to get waxed ). Rose was nice and sweet and fast. I was in and out and I appreciated that most out of everything. I felt comfortable. If I'm ever in Georgia I will return.

my hair is totally destroyed from going to tony & guy in perimeter mall they way over processed my hair half of my hair length broke off my hair was so long,thick,blonde and beautiful so i decided to go to van michael salon for extentions my first time getting extentions a i was more then happy boe woods did an amazing job not one fell out but i wanted them longer so i had to re do it all she was not available she was on maternity leave so i seen someone elce her name is laurie : this review is on laurie only. so i paid a little over $1,000 after it was all done so laurie had about 3 hours to put the extentions in because she had to take the ones i had out the only reason for taking them out is just because i wanted them longer they were perfect i shouldve never ever seen this lady laurie wow! my hair looked ok i wasnt impressed but i jad a photoshoot in miami i had to be there with extentions already in laurie did such a horrible job i cant even begin to explain how shitty of a job she did i got fired from my shoot because the very next day laurie put them in they "all" fell out!!!!!! i got extentions re-done in miami and i can not be happier by glam extentuons by gina diaz shes amazing!!!! so this lady laurie is so lazy and she just talks alot of crap about her co-workers in front of her clients i can not urge you enough to not waste $1,000+ on her awful job it really is pathetic if you want extentions and your in atlanta go see boe woods shes a pro. if your in miami go to glam extentions straight pro's its amazing. i cant beileve laurie did such a discusting job it makes me sick to my stomach. amanda laine read more

Van Michael is known as a premiere salon in Atlanta - and they have the prices to show for it. Yes! They're a little expensive, but nothing is too much to pay for your halo. The atmosphere when you walk in is not as stuffy as some other high-end salons but you do feel a little bit of tension - have felt it both times I arrived. Maybe it's like there is some employee feud going on that they're trying to hide, but it seethes out a little bit. Scott is who cut my hair the first time, and it was a great cut. It grew out well, looked good right after the cut, was styled like I want it - what's not to love?! The only complaint I had the first time was the difficulty in getting worked in. Waiting seven weeks for an opening is a little extreme, even for a patient person like me. When you have to look good, you have to look good, and I mean NOW! (Ok, maybe not so patient!) If the story ended there, they'd get a four or five star, depending on whether I could overlook the waiting room tension. But the second cut was not as good. The thing I dislike most about stylists is the lack of consistency. Getting one good hair cut is great. Getting two good hair cuts in a row makes me ecstatic - and getting three good hair cuts by the same person makes me a client for life. I was hoping to get a good second cut, especially since I know he can do it. But it wasn't meant to be. Too short in places it should have been long and vice versa. For that reason, I'll blend the scores to come up with an average 3: Five starts the first time, one star the second. read more

After hearing great reviews from a few friends who'd gone to Van Michael's and seen one of their New Talents Stylists, I took the plunge today - straying from the same salon I've been going to for 10 years! Elmira was my stylist and she was AWESOME! Not only did she give me exactly what I was looking for, but she was a fresh perspective and cool. I got a nice back massage when I walked in, she gave me suggestions based on concerns I have about volume...She did not push products on me (but I still bought a new Shampoo and Conditioner!). Elmira was great - the service over all was great and I have already made my next appointment in 3 months. I highly recommend this salon and using the new Stylists. My haircuts before with the senior stylists at other salons cost me over $80! My cut today was $43 + tip and better than anything I've had in years. I have been going to Van Michael for the past 2+ years and have had such a great experience each time. The stylists are trained well and do such a great job with the consultation. The ask good questions and really listen. They also take their time to think through what you want and what type of hair you realistically have to work with. It's so nice having confidence that they know what they're doing and know what works for you. I can actually sit back and enjoy my haircut without constantly worrying that they're doing something crazy. Plus, the scalp massage and shampoo are so relaxing. Tami Le at the Highlands location is my absolute favorite but I have also had a great experience with Micah (salon) and Elizabeth (new talents) in Buckhead. I have been going to Van Michael's VH location for over 24 years and today was my first time going back during the Covid 19 pandemic. I was completely amazed and taken aback at the lengths the employees went to in order to protect both their stylists as well as their customers. I honestly felt safer there than I have felt anywhere else in the last 3 months. At the same time, both Stevie who did my color and Chanda who did my cut did not miss a beat in making me feel pampered and in making me look amazing! This was by far one of the most professional cuts I have gotten. I was a bit nervous going into my appointment since I have had some bad experiences previously, but the hairdresser assured me that she would do her best to make sure my hair would look exactly like I wanted it too. She slowly started showing me the different haircuts that would work with my face shape in order to highlight my cheekbones, etc... She then made sure to help me chose colors for my balayage. Andrew provided a thorough mother son consultation and hairstyle for my son. In an attempt to give himself a mullet, my son (age19) had cut the sides of his hair. Andrew listened to my son, listened to me, studied and analyzed my son's curly, fine and some what thick and challenging hair. He educated us on key elements of what he could do to fix it and how my son could style it and care for his hair. I was not happy about continuing in the direction of a mullet but he helped me to realize I should let him do this while he is young. It was definitely worthwhile. Bottom line is I heart Harry. Went in as a first-time client today preparing to reluctantly cut off some of my super fine, long hair in a desperate attempt to give it any sort of volume...and instead walked out happily in shock! Harry's solution was to add amazing hair extensions that not only gave the needed added volume but also allowed me to keep my long hair...and enhance the look of it greatly! I have been going to another salon for a while now and recently just went to VM and a friend mentioned that I should see Holly in new talents. Every other salon makes you feel like you are just a number, whereas Holly did a fantastic job of making me feel at home. My personal favorite stylist is one I call "Stylin' Nilan" aka Christen Nilan - she's got exquisite taste, talent, ability, and on top of all that is SOOO friendly and nice! And REALLY listens to you. She saved me from cutting off all my hair once - THANK YOU! Nilan! - and even tho I'm in my late 30s, my 2-color edgy but corporate-friendly hair style is such a joy. I love Van Michael Salon! I've been going to see my colorist, Lauren, for years now. She always does an amazing job and takes such good care of me. There have been a few times when I haven't been able to get an appointment when I needed one (poor planning on my part) and I've ended up at other salons but its really not the same. Harry is the best stylist I've ever had and I've had a lot of stylists. I think what stands out is that teaches you how to style your hair while he's blowdrying. I'm used to situations where I felt my most confident after leaving a haircut and instead at Southern Curl, I would have to make the choice of spending over $200 to leave feeling put together vs doing the cut alone and just go straight home to wash and style my hair myself. I feel less alone reading other reviews that others got the same feeling of being a burden or nuisance. It is also pretty apparent that when you have a negative experience or feedback, the salon is quick to say goodbye and say you're not a good fit for them, again placing the blame on the client and not taking any ownership of what they could do better. I tossed them all, went back to Nioxin and Oribe products and my hair is soft and wavy again. This salon was a total loss for me. It might work for someone but it sent me away with I'll-advised products and a cut I'm still growing out of.

So this is a business that can't accommodate new customers who want to pay more in order to make a schedule work - they don't need new business.

The long edit: I sat in stylist's chair (a "level 8"...) and showed her an inspo picture. I was wanting to go from a level 5 to 6 all over balayage, to adding a little bit more dimension. After about 40 minutes of processing, during which she kept complaining that my hair wasn't lifting and accused multiple times I must've used box dye before coming in, my hair was a mess of orange streaks and black base. She went in super dark all over and couldn't lift the pieces she'd pulled. It was a mess. But what made the session so much worse is the fact that she was just so rude to me. As if she'd done me a favor by accepting to see me and just kept insisting that it was my fault because I must've been using box dye. Let me be very clear, I did not pay hundreds of dollars to hide a $10 box from her. I take extremely good care of my hair and had never had a problem lifting, so to be condescended for hours and accused of using box dye was a ridiculous engagement. I left very disappointed and immediately called my usual stylist to fix it. In the end I paid twice the amount to have it corrected. Spoiler alert, she had no issues fixing the orange and lifting the hair to give me exactly what I'd wanted. Generally speaking, I would've given them another chance, as it takes a while to get to know each other, I get that. My review is based on the way that I was treated- the way that I was condescended. The service was just extremely rude and dismissive, and there was this awkward air the entire time as if she was doing me a favor by attempting to deliver a very basic service. You could tell she didn't want to do it and didn't want to be there and was being extremely rude to you. This place is a lot like visible changes where they're charging you a premium purely based on the artist tenure, not an ability to actually deliver quality. Do not recommend at all.
