I was invited by friends to join their family outing to a weekend of Preston Palace. Originally, my…read morereview was going to be much more negative, yet surprisingly I had a good time here. I'll start out with the negatives that I experienced over the weekend. - Poorly lit rooms The rooms were incredibly poorly lit, which meant that even during daytime you'd have to turn on all the lights inside to be able to see your own face in the mirror. This was a hilarious contrast to the bathroom, where if you turned the light on it felt like you were in the presence of the Almighty one himself, causing you to be completely blind when moving back into the hotel room. - Outdated decor For a place like Preston Palace, where I imagine with the amount of visitors and the costs they have, they have a pretty good amount of money coming in. They should definitely look into updating their decor as it feels like you've entered an 80s Mafia boss' holiday residence. - Food was either delivered frozen and warmed up, or when fresh 9/10 times overcooked At Preston Palace you pay one set amount per night, which allows you to eat and drink whatever you feel like, when you feel like it. I don't have major complaints about the drinks, they offered standard things you'd expect in a hotel and that's absolutely fine. The food however, was almost always overcooked, had no flavour to it and I could see the contents of boxes of ready to heat up frozen sate and hamburgers be thrown in the deep frier. - Dirty room The room we stayed in was a 4 person room which contained a double bed and a bunk bed. I resided in the top bunk bed, and my sheets were covered in some sort of black flakes which I hope wasn't the sweaty crunchies from the previous person that slept here. Actually, I can't blame the cleaning services because you really cannot see ANYTHING without calling in Batman and shining his Bat signal into the room. Positive - A throwback to your typical Dutch style of parties Lots of Spanish music and 90s Euro dance. It's not particularly my favourite style of music, but every once in a while it's nice to be back in the typical Dutch party vibe. - Good atmosphere, friendly people Overall, staff was friendly and there was a very open atmosphere. People were happy to have a chat regardless of if they knew you, the dance floors quickly turned into a scene of hugging and appreciating each others ability to stay upright after having so many drinks. - Clean and well maintained facilities For such a big place, there were enough toilets close to all the entertainment areas. They were nicely maintained and I think that deserves a shout out to the cleaning staff. Overall, it's fun for a family weekend or a night out with a group of friends. It's very Dutch, but that also brings Nederlandse gezelligheid. :) I'm not sure if I would go again, and I wouldn't nessecarily recommend it. But it is what it is!

It is directly on the river and has stunning views. We stayed in room #9 and it was super awesome. Roses printed in the carpet, red leather chaise lounges in from of huge windows and views of the water and town, which made it really romantic! The room had a HUGE bathroom which was upstairs and a giant sunken whirlpool jacuzzi tub. The bathroom made you feel like you were in a Roman bath house equipped with a shower and sink. Lush bathrooms that we lived in. It also had a separate room for the toilet and another sink. The staff is super helpful and friendly. We ate at the restaurant and the food is very good. We enjoyed the morning breakfast which had plenty of options. We were very lucky in that the monthly day market and night festival was going on. It was so much fun. Lots of vendors with local stuff to buy. They had a live concert and DJ beginning at 9pm and it went on until 1 in the morning. The hotel provided us with ear plugs as the concert is directly across the river form the hotel. The pub inside of the restaurant was very fun and they had a tv so we were able to watch the Olympics. There are trails just steps away that has beautiful scenery. The hotel has laundry service, restaurant, pub and a beach area with a bar. We will stay here again next year. ****Also eat at the restaurant across the street called Ekkelenkamp. Get the pancake with everything! See my review.

Lots of glass in sleeping rooms lets the sun in; effective curtains keep it out. The lobby is two floors up from the street level: very hipster. But having to take two elevators every time you go in or out might just get a little old.

The exterior is so 'art-deco'! It's like a 3D painting. Inside, the check in counter was friendly and fast and we were quickly routed to our room, a deluxe double room with one wall that was like an artist's opus. The bed was comfortable and made for a good night's sleep. There was no refrigerator or bar in the room. That was compensated for by the excellent bar near the restaurant. That's one thing about Dutch hotels - they almost always have a very 'gezellig' bar/cafe so that you don't need to spend your evening locked up in your room. In summary, comfortable stay, excellent wine bar, and approximate to everything Emmen has to offer.

The restaurant have the most delicious food I have had in a very long time! (It is worth a visit, even if you are not staying at the hotel) The double room was quite large, and had a lovely bathtub, perfectly worth the 69 euros !

The location is serene and quiet.Rent bikes from the hotel and around the country side and ride to Harderwijk to sip wine by the river Vecht. The rooms are like little private residences and not hotel-esq at all. Updated, modern and clean. The restaurant staff and amazing food is mind blowing. I recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. We will stay here again next year. The location is easy enough to take the train to Amsterdam or Rotterdam. We were over impressed with this hotel and wish we could have stayed another night. Highly recommend this hotel.
