There are intercity trains and sprinter trains which are slower or quicker because of the number of stops I think. We needed the 11:13 train on platform 5a to Uitgeest. We were t hungry yet but if we had been, the station has multiple places to buy pastries or snacks for travel. We only had to wait on the platform for about 15 minutes. The seats were comfortable and had options for 2 together or 4 facing each other for families. The ride was very smooth with only 2 stops before ours. You tap out at the platform of arrival at a little tap screen about waist height there.

The station is walking distance from the old center of town, and the Groninger Museum is located directly across the canal from the front of the station.

Unfortunately, they demolished a gorgeous old building, which is typical of the city of Ede. I have yet to discover if they have also installed new bathrooms, always necessary when traveling, as sometimes you take more than two or three hours to get to your destination within Holland -- even with its excellent public transportation. Fortunately these days the trains are better equipped. Selfishly I would love to see an improvement at the station level as well. Parking is easy but a good five minute walk away. And free.

Platforms are clearly numbered and well marked, and the electronic displays make it easy to see exactly what's coming next without stress. What I really appreciate is how practical everything is. There are shops, food options, and services everywhere, from sit-down restaurants to quick takeaway spots. Even better: each platform has its own small kiosk, so you don't have to hike back to the main hall just to grab a coffee, snack, newspaper, or last-minute essentials before boarding. It's also a major international hub -- you'll see plenty of intercity and international trains heading to destinations across the Netherlands and beyond, which makes transfers pretty smooth if you're changing trains. If you choose the right exit, then you are pretty much in the clear since it's close by to a huge indoor mall and a 10 minute walk to the old city. Bilthoven seems to be a fairly quiet village, part of the Utrecht municipality, and so it was a very small but busy railway station with only two platforms. I was there on a weekend, and the shop+cafe on the train station was closed. There were toilets, but they seemed to be locked. Entrance to the station was only thru one side, but there was a good number of turnstiles to enter/ exit. He was very helpful and friendly but they probably should have at least one other person working. They had a bakery here, a Starbucks, I saw a small market, of sorts, and another place called Julia. However, I expected a few more options but what do I know, I am probably just a spoiled American... Kudos to the friendly worker who helped me find everything I needed here.
