Quick and efficient during my procedures, even when I was being nit-picky they listened to my concerns and I felt heard and they took care of what I asked for. Somewhat chaotic in the lobby / front office but still manage to get you in and taken care of. read more

I used to love this place, until Holly answered the phone. Everyone else there I've had a great experience with. Never had issues with treatment when my insurance was blue cross blue shield. obvious difference now I'm on caresource. which is why I called, because the page says yo they accept, but she made it disgustingly clear that they don't and it's Google who's misinforming the people. needless to say, experience was HORRIBLE, once rehired by my job. I'll find another dentist! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This was my dentist for 46 years (Dr. Dahm was awesome, but he's retired now), until their business model changed to simply milk as much money out of you and your insurance as possible and run you through as quickly as possible, like it's a cattle operation. The final straw was when their dumb messy-hair blond office manager screamed at me when I simply asked for an explanation of what I was being charged (charges above-and-beyond my insurance that made no sense in light of past identical services and which she obviously didn't understand, which is why she chose to make a scene instead of even attempting to explain it). She absolutely refused to even try to explain it, was exceedingly UNPROFESSIONAL and rude, refused to let me say anything at all, and threatened to call the police if I didn't "PAY IT OR LEAVE!!!". I switched dentists and was told I actually have strong/healthy teeth and bones and DO NOT need the extra work Van Buren was doing on me, and I don't have the issues they said I have, which they were charging me extra for when I had cleanings. I believe Van Buren is simply trying to milk every penny out of our insurance plans (doing work that isn't necessary) and milking even more out of our pockets as well. They are just trying to milk every penny out of patients they can get to pay for their high-tech machines (their fancy cars, vacation homes, etc.), instead of simply providing good care of patients. If you go to Van Buren Dental or even are considering it - I would say RUN AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE and go to a different dentist. Any professional office that would allow their staff to act the way their office manager did shouldn't be allowed to be in business! read more

I had good experiences with this office up until recently . I started seeing my gums on the bottom front pull away. I went in and was prescribed an antibiotic and told if it didn't get better I would need to see a specialist. I took it upon myself to get evaluated by a periodontist. What I was told was that my gum recession and bone loss was so bad that I would need my four front bottom teeth pulled and would need 2 implants and a bridge. My position is that had I been referred sooner, I might have avoided this. I don't think this recession and bone loss happened overnight. I went to regular cleanings every 6 months. I brought these concerns up to the office and they had a hygienist call me. I think the dentist should have called me herself. Of course, they had excuses and did not take any responsibility. Just beware and make sure they are checking for gum recession. I don't think they checked mine for 2 Years prior to this. read more

Scam artists. They gave me an estimate to fix my teeth and told me what insurance would cover. I paid in full, now months later they are saying I owe $1227.10 additional for what insurance didn't cover. They are supposed to be the experts on insurance coverage. I would not have had the work done there if I had known how much I would be charged. They are expensive and there are places that do the same work for less. I am reporting them to the Attorney General's office - I think this is unfair. If I had an estimate on fixing my car and they came back over $1,000 more, I would not pay it. Not to mention, their staff was abusive and rule when they called to tell me about money owed. read more

It was a terrible terrible experience. The dental assistant Dave must've been on drugs. I wanted 2 teeth pulled on the bottom so I could get a denture. I asked him the price and he said "it depends on if you need a filling" first. read more

Just had lower denture done. Dr shepler and his team are truly phenomenal! They genuinely care about your comfort and they are so caring and kind. Highly recommend! read more

Do NOT go here. The office people should be flipping burgers at McDonald's. At first, they tried to run my procedure through a three year old policy which I told them NOT to do because I no longer had that policy. I even asked them to just take that policy out of their system. The incompetent bimbo at the desk did NOT do this. They told me they were in network, only to find out they lied, and sent me to collections. Not to mention....the work they did....did NOT work. Then they had the nerve, after they sent me to collections, to ask if I wanted a cleaning. Are you serious? There are hundreds of dentists in the area. If they would have just told me they weren't in network, I would have taken my business elsewhere. read more

The hygienist Chelsea was very rude and disrespectful, not something I expect when someone is working on a part of my body. She tried to rush an appointment and spoke to me in a condescending manner. There are too many other dentists out here for that kind of behavior. I will not be returning. read more

I was new to the area and needed a teeth cleaning and some x-rays to check on my wisdom teeth. I get my x-rays taken, and Dr. Shepler walks in and greets me and, after that, tells me I need a root canal on my front tooth. I am 20 years old and have never had a root canal nevertheless on my front tooth. So I ask some questions, and the doctor leaves. I then scheduled the root canal for the next day. I call back 2 hours after my appointment, the day before my root canal, to ask some questions and ask for my X-rays to send to my dentist back home. I got a call the next day at 8 am saying I was being taken off the books because I asked too many questions and asked for my x-ray. Ashton said it made the doctor uncomfortable and said, "he said that since you are so young, he doesn't want to mess it up." I wish I were joking. They were so confident in his abilities the day before. I can't believe the website says he is a root canal expert. So unprofessional. I will never go back. Update: GET A SECOND OPINION!! I just went to a specialist for root canals. He took another x-ray and there was nothing present on my tooth. The specialist tested my teeth and said all of my teeth are alive and healthy. Make sure you advocate for yourself and ask questions! Its so important and my asking of too many questions just saved me from getting an expensive procedure I did not need. Keep in mind van buren dental did not further test the tooth or take any more X-rays they just put me on the procedure books. read more

STAY AWAY! I went for my dentures. They made this idiot Jamie Shepler despite a rock left to right kept on insisting that how it looked outside handing me a mirror matters, never mind how it feels. He insisted that holding the dentures with two fingers despite that was the same way he got dentures to rock back and forth in the first place. He was angry. To which I had him mix a liner I held it place with teeth held down, as soon as he tried to move it, he couldn't. At that point, he had nothing to say but he got angrier, telling me if I wanted my money back. He's stubborn, despite the second time around would turn out... eventually. STAY AWAY! read more

After my daughter's experience at Van Buren Dental, I would recommend avoiding this practice at all costs. She called me from this office because they had so upset her! I could hear the receptionist in the background telling her to stop talking, etc. I have never heard such rudeness in a professional office in my life. read more

Avoid Van Buren Dental at all costs. I recently went for a night guard. After an hour and three tries, the tech couldn't get an impression. The dentist finally had to come do it on a fourth try. By the time I left I my shirt and pants were covered in spit because of gagging and nobody bothering to properly address this. My throat and mouth were also terribly sore. Upon leaving, I paid $289 for the guard and lab fees. The medical biller at the front desk wanted me to pay $500 but I requested it be run through my insurance first. I went today to pick up my guard and was informed that I had a balance due. I called my insurance company prior to my appointment to check my benefits. My insurance covers night guard at 50% every 60 months. I spoke with the medical billing manager who refused to call insurance, contact insurance or give me my guard. She was unprofessional, rude, uncooperative and basically refused to discuss or problem solve. She tells the receptionist "she's not getting anything until she pays $500". Then, she tells me that I have to leave or she'll call the police to have me "escorted out". Now, keep in mind that at this point I am trying to reason with her and am in tears because I can't understand why any of this is happening. She also was claiming that I was "refusing to pay". Which, I'd already paid more than I am required to pay and she was refusing to look into the issue. I have never, ever, been treated this way before in my life. I had overheard her be rude and unreasonable to another patient on another visit. Silly me, I thought it was the patient's fault. I then left a message for the practice notifying them to take me and my children off the schedule and not to contact me again. Shortly after I get a call from the medical biller telling me that she has now called insurance and the device is covered at 50%. I reminded her that she threatened to call the police on me. She said, "we aren't going to go there." I told her don't call me again and hung up. Bad service, unknowledgeable staff, belligerent billing department. There are plenty of other dentists in the Miami Valley. read more

I have been a patient here for 13 or so years. They are the sweetest, professional, dental practice around! Dayton is lucky to have such an awesome group caring for its citizens!! They are affordable especially if you don't have dental insurance. They work with you and aren't holding you hostage for payment in full when it's time to check out for that visit! I LOVE THIS GROUP!!!! read more

First exposure with Heather and Lindsay in the front office was fabulous- they were able to schedule a cleaning for me the next day ! My hygienist Cyndy had the most delicate touch and perhaps was the best cleaning I have ever had. Dr. Shepler has the best energy and smiling face. I really appreciated the fact he wasn't pushing items I really didn't need (ie fillings etc) With so many dentist in the Dayton area, I am so glad a friend recommended Van Buren. Great experience! Can't wait to go back (weird I never say that about dentists) read more

Been going to Van Buren Dental for 3 years now. Smart move. Really great bunch of people and very professional at what they do.

The hygienist was very rough. The reception personnel were rude. Dr. Schiffler is very polite, gentility and efficient. But the support personnel are condescending and perfunctory. read more

I don't like this office because every time I came into it the receptionists look very cold and not happy. And the doctor's assistant give me a bitter face too. That makes me feel I'm really not welcomed. I don't understand why so many people comment that they are all really nice in Yelp. I won't come to this office again . read more

I visited Dr. Shepler for the first time a couple of weeks ago and he, Pam, and Joanne were amazing!!! Everyone here was so nice and confident in the work that they do and made me feel good about going to the dentist. Thank you so much I look forward to future appointments, I'll definitely be recommending them to everyone I know. read more

I have been going to Van Buren Dental for over 25 years and have always had the best care. Lately, there's been a lot of changes in personnel and recently have been taken care of by a whole new "crew". Change is always hard, but I'm so impressed with my recent experience. The Hygeinist, Shannon, was great. Very professional with a great personality. I saw Dr. Hoza and along with her assistant, Jenn, they did a great job! Both very personable and made me feel so comfortable. Sometimes change is good and I feel very happy with my experience at Van Buren Dental...highly recommend! read more

What a great experience! I am always impressed that I am able to get in when I have an emergency. Pam is so friendly and personable as is Dr. Shepler, which is very comforting to me. The quality is impeccable, I am always happy when I leave! read more

I really do not like this place. I was recommend by my mom, but I've encountered nothing but problems since I switched to this office. I had several problems after having fillings done and had to go back three times to get it adjusted. I've had problems with bills being much more than what was quoted and with scheduling. My hygienist and dentist both seem very sweet and educated. Perhaps I'm having bad luck each time I go, but this place is not a good fit for me. read more

Amazing experience at Van Buren Dental. I just moved back to the area from out of state & it has been a couple of years since I have visited the dentist...I know...yikes! Jen & Phoebe were super sweet and accommodating! Highly recommend!! read more

Dental experience was good. As a rule I don't like dental visits, but this was good. Staff always concerned for my comfort.

I have been here twice, and both times were great experiences! This dentist was able to get me in at the beginning of the day for my first visit within a few days. (I had called another dentist closer to home who had an 8-month wait for an early appointment!) I was quickly greeted with a smile at the reception desk. Neither of my wait times in the waiting room was very long. My hygienist, Cyndy Ross, is extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and friendly. She has given me some great advice! I have seen two different dentists, both of which addressed any concerns and offered suggestions. I would definitely go to them again! read more
