FRAUD BUYER BEWARE, THIS IS A USELESS place FRAUD FRAUD. I've taken my truck here for years. I crawled under the truck yesterday and noticed my oil filter has not been changed in at least 3 visits. They lied. that's over 20000 miles on same filter. They serviced my front differential now the 4x4 will not engage. I have filed a complaint with customer care . the BBB, payment on hold with my credit card company, and state consumer agency. read more

In the past they have always checked all the lights etc...not this time. Instead an extended list of "advised" services was reviewed - none of which were yet recommended by the manufacturer (I checked prior to going). Oil change was fine. Tire rotation required our lug key which was just handed to me afterward rather than replaced near the spare where it is stored. They just seemed to do the minimum this time. read more

I went to get my oil changed before I went to work and there was no one there. Before I went to Dunkirk, i went to Prince Frederick and they were not open yet because they open at 7:30...but people were there. It was about 7:15. I decided to keep going up to Dunkirk hoping that I could just get in and out. I got there about 7:30 and no one came out. After sitting there for about 5 minutes, I realized that no one was there. I started to pull off but then I saw someone come in so I decided to try and wait. He never came to the bay door. I waited another 5-7 minutes. I ended up going to the Bowie location. I like the service overall but this experience was disappointing. That said, I will not be using Valvoline again because it is far too expensive. I paid almost $40 for a conventional oil change with a military discount of 15%. I can't continue to do that. read more

(Dunkirk location) This place is not customer oriented. They will not satisfy their customers. I bought a battery from them and the battery only latest one year and two months. I went back and ask them to test my battery and they did first the guy told the battery tested healthy then he did further test and then he said it's the battery. Then he told me he was going to call his manager and ask him if he could give me a new battery. When he came back he said the manager said no because it's probably my starter and I need to take the car to my mechanic and get him to look at the car. I said okay, so I came on home. I called a my husband and told him what was going on and he told me to take the car to Advance Auto and have them to test the battery, so I did. When I got there I ask the guy could he test my battery. He said that he would and soon as he finishes with his customer. I was afraid to turn the car off because I felt as though it wouldn't start. Things were getting worse with this battery. The guy finally got to me and he test the battery and he said WOW this battery is dead. I told him knew it was the battery and told about my experience at Valvoline and said I don't like that place. So I got a new battery from Advance Auto they installed it for me and they took the old one. I told my husband I was going back to Valvoline in morning and talk to the manager and my husband said call me when you get there so I did. When I got there the next day this employee was looking at me like why is she parking over here. So I proceed to tell him what I went through the day before and he was kind enough to listen and then the guy who waited on me the night before pulls up and ask what going on. I told him it was the battery that battery was bad because I took it Advance Auto they tested and it was dead. Ma'am your battery tested health and I could not give you a new battery. I told him I don't care what your tester said it was wrong. By that time the manager proceeded toward us and ask what is going on. I told him I'm the person who was there last night and you said it was my starter and you couldn't give a new battery because it tested healthy. And he I can't do anything for you. So I call my husband and let him talk the manager about the battery and the manager proceed to tell it's my starter not knowing that my husband has some knowledge about cars. The manager kept telling him it's nothing he could do for me. I and told him I don't want anything you but I will be calling your headquarters and I will be yelping his ass. My husband call headquarter and spoke to some and they agreed that they should have done more for me. My husband was able to get me a couple of free oil changes. I'm just not going there to get it done. Dunkirk Valvoline management and employees are not willing to go that extra mile to satisfy their customers. Never again that there! read more

This place is awesome. Excellent customer service and you get to sit right in your car. They clearly show you your options on a large computer screen right in the bay while you talk to the technicians. They also communicate with you through the process, for instance they let me know that some of my skid plate hardware was rusty and I should probably look at replacing it. When I arrived to this location, the guy helping me scanned my vin number and entered in my license plate number per usual. I watched as he manually changed the computer to enter in the completely wrong model of my car. I drive a VW Jetta SE FWD, he entered in that I drove a VW Jetta R-Line AWD. Additionally, I asked for a sticker as a reminder to come back, the sticker reads that I need to come back in 3,000 miles to have an oil change. I asked him if that were true because to my understanding a full synthetic oil change typically lasts 5,000-10,000 miles, his response was, "That is true, we just tell people that they need to come back in earlier." I understand the hustle of a business... but it was unsettling to hear that come from an employees mouth. read more

Plain and simple...This location has awful customer service and the management is terrible! I took my car there for an oil change a few months ago and now I no longer have that car. I was informed by a reputable auto repair service in the area and my Infiniti dealer that this Valvoline location did not handle my car properly. Within a few weeks of their service, the check engine and low oil performance lights came on my car. When I returned to the Dunkirk Valvoline, the manager Justin did not communicate with me at all. He and some other employees immediately started whispering among themselves. When I asked him what was going to be done, he told me that he was just going to give me another oil change. However, this time they put too much oil in my car! There was oil in my spark plugs along with a lot of oil in the pcv system, intake and throttle body. I had to have all of this replaced by a local auto repair shop. I filed a complaint with the company and the area manager, Richard, took weeks to return my call. On top of that when he returned the call, he was very smug and condescending. He told me that it was a pre-existing problem and he found it suspicious that the auto repair shop and Infiniti dealer would hang up or would not speak to him regarding the matter. They had no idea what he was referring to. He lied about contacting them! I also found this ironic when he was the one who hung up on me and the manager at the dealer twice when we called to discuss the matter. Richard was very rude, arrogant, and has a bad attitude. His poor lack of customer service is definitely not a good representation of the company. I have since found out from others in my community that they have had bad experiences with this Valvoline location and it is definitely not one to visit! Many of their employees lack automotive experience and good customer service. And for the area manager Richard, good service starts at the top!!! read more

Whatever you do avoid this Valvoline location at all cost if you care about your vehicle and your sanity. Our family has been disappointed by this location more than once. This last incident is truly the deal breaker. My 2015 SUV with only 50,000 and technicians at this location do not like to take down plastic panels from underneath the vehicle and put them back properly as it relates to doing oil changes. Then had the nerve to complain about plastic panel not staying up after they stripped the torx screws with a high powered screw gun. Surprisingly one of the area managers was a technician on my vehicle who tried to cover it up by grabbing a random box of screws and tried to use them to put the panel up and further stripped the screw threading in the frame of my truck. To add insult to injury they took the middle belly plastic panel down and not the front panel where the actual engine oil is suppose to drain down from because of this it caused access oil to drain on the inside front plastic panel which in return destroyed my white concrete driveway at home. Needless to say this is the oldest vehicle that we have at our house with only 50,000 miles and what a disappointment to have to go home with my panel in my trunk and oil leaking everywhere.. read more

I've been here a few times for last minute oil changes at different times each visit. They're either busy or slow - and it's MUCH better to show up on a slow day (process is much faster). The prices are a little steep, but you're paying for convenience. Everyone I've spoken with has always been nice and accommodating. At my last visit there was an issue with the oil I wanted being in-stock (the premium high mileage synthetic - not sure of the exact name) and they filled my car with another oil for me so I could come back later in the day to get the oil I actually wanted. It ended up being much more of a process than I thought, but I felt worse for the workers. They went above and beyond to make sure I got the oil I originally wanted, and I really appreciated it, but it would have been better on them and me if it had never happened. I might start filling my own oil up to avoid the steep prices, but if I end up wanting/needing someone else to do it, I'll definitely come here. read more

Quick fix in a jiff, also ask about discounts!!!!! This place gets a lot of business, why? because they are good. On average they get about 30 cars a day. That's a lot for a little station like this. They have 3 bays and carry a full team so they move at a reasonable clip. IF YOU WANT SAVINGS THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. Save up about 200-300 bucks. Withdraw the cash from the ATM so you have actual green backs. When you get there, don't just get an oil change, get other stuff done too. Your car will need everything on that list done at least once. If not done by you, then by someone else. And if you don't do it, expensive consequences are your future. Then once you picked out what you want done, tell them you want to pay in cash and ask them about discounting the work. Don't be afraid to get the manager involved. They WILL work with you. I've been their 7 times. NOT ONCE have I been turned down on a discount. I get all my basic services done here. I'd do it myself, but I don't feel like dealing with the oil left over. Here is the price breakdown. on what it costs you to do it yourself, as to oppose what they will do for you. Do it yourself route: Well to get 5qt of that oil from Autozone would run you about 50-60 bucks. Also keep in mind, you have to dispose of that oil at the county landfill. From Dunkirk, you could be looking at an hour to hour and a half drive. So figure about 7-10 bucks to drive your car from point A to point B and back again. Then let's make sure you buy yourself a new oil filter too. So that will run you at about 5-10 bucks depending on what you need. Need other stuff done too? I guess your taking your time and looking it over and seeing if you can buy a few quarts of brake fluid or that gallon of windshield wiper fluid. So low balling it, you're looking at about 60 bucks. That's getting the oil and dealing with it at the landfill and replacing the filter. Maybe spend an hour or so jacking up the car, getting everything in place, getting the pan, draining the line, plugging it up, and so on and so forth. Or you could pay 90 bucks and have someone do it for you in about 15-20 min. Who will also check the stats of your other basic maintenance needs and top off your fuel levels. This is assuming you DONT ask for a discount. Are they worth the extra 30? YES! Could you talk them down and make it only an extra 15 -20? Yes, but you need to be loyal. That counts here. read more

Gave this one two chances, that's it. Understood would pay more for the convenience of drive in without appointment, and while the staff was friendly enough, that really just masks an aggressive up-sell effort. The first time the attendant had a bad attitude when I did trade up enough and then told me I was risking my warranty by not upgrading further (which I know is not true). The second time we waited 45 mins in the bay on a not particularly busy day while the staff did not seem particularly motivated to get the work done. I complained on line about the aggressive up sell ... nothing. I'll try somewhere else from now on. read more

Do not visit this VIOC location. Why? Please read... On Saturday, March 19th, 2016 I visited the Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC) location in Dunkirk, MD to have my oil changed and tires rotated. I have been going to this location for a couple of years and the service has always been wonderful, however with this recent experience I will never visit this or any other VIOC ever again. Wednesday, March 23rd, after I had the service completed my family and I drove from MD to NH for the Easter holiday. Everything seemed to be fine until I got to MA where I started to have a minor vibration in the rear at highway speeds forcing me to slow to where the vibration stopped. Once I arrived in NH I then noticed an intermittent rubbing noise in the left rear at low speed. After crawling under and checking the rear tires and wheel wells several times I did not find the cause, I figured it must have been a piece of molding or wheel well trim that was loose and bumping. The following Monday, March 28th, we made the drive back from NH to MD. Again, all seemed to be fine until we hit NJ where we started to experience a very violent vibration in the left rear. Pulled off, inspected everything, but this time noticed that a lug nut was missing, upon further inspection, the entire stud was gone, of the 4 remaining lug nuts, 3 were alarmingly loose, one was only finger tight. Unpacked the back of the SUV to get to the jack and wrench, tightened the remaining nuts and repacked the SUV and got back on the road. No further vibration was evident between NJ and MD. Immediately after unpacking in MD, I visited the VIOC in Dunkirk to address the issue. The Assistant Manager was apologetic and pleasant and assured me that the stud would be ordered and be available to be replaced Tuesday or Wednesday. Tuesday morning as I was on the outer loop of the Beltway headed to work I started to have a violent vibration in the left front. Pulled off to inspect and found all 5 lug nuts to be ridiculously loose. At this point, the irate switch was flipped on. Pulled the equipment out, tightened the nuts, checked all remaining lug nuts on all wheels, found one more on the right side which required tightening. Shame on me for not doing this Monday. As the irate switch was on, I called VIOC Customer Care as soon as it opened to explain my issue. Later that day I received a call from the local DM who was apologetic and polite and assured me that the issue would be addressed. Thursday, hearing nothing from them, I called the Dunkirk location. Was told that the stud was only ordered on Wednesday and that it "should" be in on Friday. Irate has now turned to red hot mad. Called the DM, left a message about the lack of care, later had a voicemail that he was addressing it and offered a secondary solution where I could take it to a tire shop in the same plaza. Later, I called and spoke the Manager at VIOC who stated that he could not get the part until Monday (if the part had been ordered on Tuesday as promised, this would not have been an issue). When I called the tire shop, they stated that they could do it, but only when VIOC brought the stud to them. I then called the Manager back to explain and asked if I could take it to a different auto repair location nearby who I have used in the past. He called to confirm that they could get it done. Monday, April 4th. The repair still has not been done as the 2nd auto repair location also could not source the part in a timely manner. It was not until Tuesday, April 5th, 8 days after I reported the issue that the wheel was repaired. I have not had any follow up calls from anyone at VIOC to learn if the issue has been addressed. They have since sent a check to refund the service expense. I am writing this because due to the lack of proper checks and balances and an inept Team Member, this VIOC put myself and family at great risk and has wasted an unacceptable amount of my time. Simply put, if they are unable to properly tighten 11 lug nuts, and coordinate ordering a single common part in a timely manner, what else are they unable to do properly? How can anyone trust them with the investment they have in a vehicle, or, most importantly, the lives of themselves and their family? I highly recommend avoiding this and all other VIOC locations. Took my car here to get a simple oil change. When I left my car was smoking. I thought they may have just spilled oil. Come to find out I have a chronic oil leak now. Took my car back the next morning. They told me that I was told about this, they also told me they showed me a picture of the issue. Complete lie. There whole staff was scrambling around as soon as I pulled in and it was obvious to me that they did something to my car the day before and did not let me know. The area manager came in to let me know that they did not do anything and it was a coincidence. I can understand businesses make mistakes because I run a business. A real business admits when they make a mistake and make it right. I was a loyal customer to these people and they did not make any effort at all to make this right. This is poorly run establishment. Before I begin I should note that I drive a 2004 Toyota prius. When I went in I had one headlight out, but to replace a headlight for a prius is complicated at best. Earlier in the day I went to the Toyota dealership in Prince Frederick and they told me replacing the light would cost $150 plus the cost of the light bulb ($100-$200). I went into valvoline for oil change, not expecting much else. Not only did they volunteer to replace the light without me asking them to, they also spent almost two hours working on it. When they finally got the new light in, there was no charge because I bought the bulb else where. Great service, super friendly, and I saved a bunch of money. read more

if you don't like money and want them to take it by charging you fraudulently for services not rendered then you have found the right place! i have been to other valvolines but this one charges for things like extra oil on a 4 ccld vehicle which none have ever charge! it's a basic oil change and price should start here, it doesn't take extra and never has nor ever charged, Thise five bucks add up and wonder if someone is pocketing it!?!? i called manager later and made sure he was aware, but not really interested in my concern. Fast, reliable, super easy service. You do occasionally have to wait like 10 minutes for service if there's someone in front of you, but I don't really care. The only drawback is the price. It's about $40 for an oil change. I usually bring in a coupon that drops it down to $33 or so. I bought new tires at Mr. Tire, and they have a significantly cheaper oil change that includes tire rotation. You have to wait in a waiting room for probably 60 to 90 minutes, but it might be worth it to save $20 or so. If that pans out, I'll probably start going there, but Valvoline isn't a bad place to go if you have little time and are in need of an oil change. For years, I was always hesitant to go to one of these instant oil change places. After having one too many experiences with my local car dealership unable to schedule me at a convienient time or when I get there having to wait for a really long time in a waiting area surrounded be stale doughnuts and Sesame Street on the tv, I decided it was time for a change. I tried the Valvoline in Dunkirk and was impressed from start to finish. I tend to go in the afternoon and I rarely have more than 1 person ahead of me. In fact, most of the time I can pull right in. The technicians are very friendly and took the time to explain everything they are doing. The actual process was very quick--while I never timed it, it feels around 10 minutes or so on average-- and even when they swap out an air filter or change a part, it seems I am still in an out. The basic package Valvoline offers costs me less than what I paid at the dealership. I usually "upgrade" to a Next generation oil and that package loses some of the value, but is still competitive. I get coupons in the mail every few months that seem to offset any price difference. Besides, if money was the most important factor, I would change the oil myself. I have been there probably 7 or 8 times and each time has been stellar. read more
