I've shopped at Value World many times and there are definitely some positives worth mentioning. The staff I've interacted with have always been very friendly and knowledgeable, and I really appreciate the promotions and discounts they offer on a regular basis. When things are running smoothly, you can find some good deals. That said, I'm increasingly disappointed with a few things. During promotions, the store is clearly understaffed, and the lines become excessively long for everyone. It turns what should be a fun, bargain-hunting trip into a frustrating experience. I was also told by a staff member that they are instructed to look up every item online before pricing it and putting it on the floor. That approach might make sense from a business standpoint, but it takes away from the feeling that you're getting a fair "thrift store" deal and can really slow down the process of getting items out for customers. What bothers me most, though, is learning that this is a for-profit-only company that doesn't appear to represent any cause or give back to the community. There are donation bins in front of the store, but there's no clear indication that those donations go to a good cause or help people in need. In contrast, many other resale and thrift stores are transparent about supporting local charities, community programs, or people in need. It's disappointing that Value World doesn't seem to do the same, especially when they rely on donations and present themselves in a way that can easily be mistaken for a charitable thrift store. read more

I love browsing the 10 and Kelly location - it has a great selection of books and brooches, two of my favorites. It's large enough for a wide variety of items, but not so large as to be total chaos. read more

This is the *good* value world, to me. I'm hesitant to hype it up too much because I don't want clothes shopping competition, haha. If you're alt and like DIY, or if you're plus sized, this has the superior selection for all of that. I've never not found exactly what I'm looking for here. read more

Value World is my favorite thrift store chain. I've been going to these places since high school, back when it was just Value Village. (Gratiot and 12 Mile, yo! R.I.P. to that store) I don't know how many outlets there were back then or how they managed the upgrade to World, but these places consistently offer better wares than Salvation Army. It's a damn shame my beloved VW on Woodward shuttered and still sits empty. This makes the Eastpointe store the closest VW to me. It's a bit of a drive and I'm not going out of my way, but I got people over in Macomb County so if there's thrifting to be done this joint is worth popping into. It's been a couple years since I've been in here. The last time I got two pairs of sneakers, gray Chucks and black Pumas with gold stripes, each for less than $15 apiece. Yeah, used shoes might be kinda skeezy but they're in good shape, even still. (This was before these days of 'Rona germs. It remains to be seen how that affects the thrifting game, but even then I sprayed those mugs down with some disinfectant.) This is a good place to score t-shirts, too, if you have the patience to make your way through the massive racks. But then, patience has always been a big part of thrifting. You might rifle your way through VW and barely find anything you wanna buy or it just might be overflowing with thrifty goodness. It's more or less a crapshoot. I've found the good days outweigh the bad and even if it's slim pickings on a particular day I still find thrifting a fun exercise in cultural anthropology. Lots and lots of over priced used stuff. That's the best way to describe this place. If i wanted to pay almost full price, I wouldn't have went to a thrift store. I did find some goodies and I like their half off the bill coupons. I've been to a few different VW locations and this one was super dirty and messy. Not coming to this location again. read more

Value World is a Michigan phenomenon that I just adore! Though every store has quirks (for example, there's one store on 11 mile in Warren that overprices like crazy), but in all VW is a top notch local thrift chain. I've not yet found a VW that was small or poorly stocked, though some favor certain kinds of merchandise over others. The Eastpointe location is a great place to hunt for books. The Clinton Township location is fantastic for electronics. The Warren 11 mile location has awesome records. And so on. Check back here often - you never know what you'll find! It makes sense that at the end of the shopping day the stock would be pretty crappy. If I had any suggestion it'd be to try shopping before noon if possible. You'll get first crack at the goodies that way. read more

This place could work on being cleaner but I dont set my expectations to high when im thrift shopping. They offer 50% off ur entire purchase coupons in the paper sometimes and its very helpful. The staff it normally nice and the items are pretty decent if u take the time to look. read more

Thrifters beware. This store doesn't have a fitting room! The store is a nice size and has a decent selection, although many of the articles of clothing are stained, smell strange, or are dusty. The staff is very unfriendly and unpleasant. I would strongly suggest traveling the extra distance to go to a nearby Salvation Army. read more

This place is ridiculous. Their policy is that they won't sell anything without a price on it, which I can tell you from going recently that I picked up about 10 things I was interested in buy with NO PRICE TAG. I found a pair of jeans I liked, and when I got to the register they wouldn't sell them to me because the tag wasn't completely secure to the pants, saying that they had to go back to the back room for re-pricing. The tag was the same from the time I picked them off of the rack. The reason that the tag wasn't so secure is because they stapled through the waistband. So not only could I not purchase them but I had to stand in a line for 15 minutes waiting so I could walk out of the store empty handed. Bad policies and sometimes overpriced. read more
