I've been going to this dentist since the the mid 1980's (I think) and have had a variety of dental work done which all stems back to an accident I had when I was 19. The type of work that has been done includes lower implants for a complete denture, 2 bridges on the top, each side, some verniers, fillings, and regular cleanings. I went to this dental office because of their advertisement for implants. I was evaluated and they told me I was a good candidate. I went ahead with the implant and it was quick and relatively pain free. I just had my half way check up and they told me it is healing perfectly and in 6 weeks I will have the crown put on and will finally have a tooth!!! I am also pleased with the cost. I had checked with many different dentists in the valley and Value Dental's price for an implant is about half. Nice...very nice! I am also very pleased with the very nice and friendly staff. My daughter was wanting to get her teeth cleaned so I referred her. She went in and was also pleased with the service. read more

Can not recommend! Staff was nice enough, but. I made first appt stating i thought I had a cracked tooth. Went in, again explained to the person I thought I had a cracked tooth and asked for options. Got the and x-ray and no real issues. I asked if the tooth was cracked, was told they couldn't tell from machine they used, that a different machine would need to be used and would cost 150.00. Just recently had some work done by the new owner of Half Dental, Dr. Hess. He was so efficient and did such a great job fixing a chip on my front tooth. He explained everything he was doing and I couldn't be more pleased with his work. I would highly recommend him as a dentist. Dr. Hess told me that he acquired Half Dental about a year ago, which makes sense because most of these negative reviews were written prior to that. I can't see anybody having a negative experience with Dr. Hess. As far as the receptionist goes that keeps getting mentioned in these reviews - she's been fired for a while now so don't let her scare you away! read more

Rescheduled because doctor was not in. Called second time to cancel saying doctor was not in. I was told they would call me back to reschedule me next week... 1 year later... They act like they care at first. Once they have your money, good luck getting an appointment to hold up. RUN... RUN as fast and far away from half dental as possible. Watch out for wolf in sheep wool. Kelly their financier will get your money and then cancel, cancel, cancel. When you ask for a refund, she will give you a portion of the money you paid for, for work they never did. This place should be investigated. I had an appointment for a cleaning on 4/28 - the usual cleaning techniques. The hygienist was fine - however when it got to the actual Dentist exam - he began to tell me I had an absess tooth and it was actually eating my sinus cavity even. I then asked to have the xray emailed to me. Today I had two other dentist verify what I already knew - they see no problems with that tooth. When I told them that tooth has never hurt or given me any problems they said " Oh sometimes you don't know you have a huge absess in your mouth' Yeah right they hurt like hell. Beware always get a second and third opionion. Sure it's half price for the cleaning but they make up $3000 dollars worth of work that needs to be done.. I will never recommend this dentist. read more

I was so happy with Value Dental. I had a crown that had a crack in it and they went out of their way to work with the manufacturer who then replaced it at no charge. The dentist was careful and very qualified. I did not even feel the needle with the numbing agent. Something I can't say for some of the previous places I went. Very nice office staff. read more

Too bad Yelp doesn't let you give no stars. These people must write their own good reviews because this place is horrible. The only "value" thing about this place is the dentist. You can go just about anywhere else and pay the same price, there is even cheaper dentists out there like All About You or Discount Dental. I got my tooth pulled here because they had an open appointment sooner. This dentist couldn't write a proper prescription if her life depended on it and for 3 days after getting my tooth pulled in excruciating pain I had to drive around to pick up the prescription she wrote wrong NUMEROUS times on top of having my newborn with me. I had no time to recover because I spent those 3 days driving around for some bullshit prescription that wasn't written correct. I called back on the 3rd day after sitting in the pharmacy once again and was very nice and only asked for HALF of that money back since I had wasted my time and money on gas driving for 3 different days over this. Not to mention I had to drive BACK to the dentist to get the new prescription because she couldn't call it in (that one was written wrong also). They couldn't even take responsibility for their mess up and refused to work with me on any kind of refund and were incredibly rude when I pointed their mistake out. Do not go here unless you want a VALUE dentist and expensive cost and a horrible experience. read more

My husband and I have been going to Half Dental for approx. 2 years. The dentists and staff are knowledgeable and experienced. The front staff makes you feel so very welcome. We have had 4 implants done between my husband and I. Compared to private insurances, Half Dental truly is half price! I have to admit if I read Karen's N. review from July 29, 2014 I would have stayed away from these folks. About all they can do is a routine cleaning, but everything else go somewhere else. You'll pay about the same price with or without insurance. Anyone can finance you these days and trust me it will be worth it in the end to go somewhere else. I had a routine cleaning done September 20th 2014 with xrays and of course insurance paid for it all, then came time for the fillings and the crown. That's where it all went way WRONG. The fillings went okay, except they didn't give me enough numbing meds. The first temporary crown they put on fell of in a hour, so drove back and had them put it on again. This time it broke apart 4 hours after having it on. They told me to wait unitl the real crown showed up in a week and should be alright with nothing covering the tooth until then. Hmmm....nothing on the tooth until then, okay whatever. When it came time for the real crown appointment I was asked to reschedule because the company they use to make the crown lost it. Really they lost it and you caledl me the day of the appointment? I told them I still have nothing covering the tooth and they had me come in again for a temporary and another molding to send off. This time the temporary held. Now I was called last week my new crown was in and ready to be put on. I told them I had to work, so they scheduled me for today (11/25/2014). When my appointment was coming due I was called again to reschedule because the crown was broken and they would have to send for a new one. Really you just checked the crown out and your sending it back to the company that gave you a crappy product in the first place. No way I want that crap in my mouth if it can't even withstand standard shipping in the mail. I'm going to have to call my insurance and see what my options on for going to another dentist. This is two months in the works for a crown and really hope you go somewhere else. I even had insurance and the healthsavings funds to pay upfront and still got treated like they had no clue what they were doing. If you have a dental practice and offer half prices then have a little pride in what you do to keep your patients. This makes me think your half price because you can't deal with the patient volume or you have dental workers no one else want to employ or your pocketing profits somewhere. This is it for me and I'll trust my dental health to someone else! read more

I went in for the cleaning. Spent the $35. They did a set of x-rays. Then the dentist told me that I had periodontal disease, and the cleaning would cost me $70 more, because it is more work than they usually do on a cleaning. Bottom line, after going back and forth with her for five minutes, was no cleaning for $35. This is the first review I have written for anybody... but it really got my goat that they would advertise it and then not even give it to me, and then keep my money. My teeth needed the cleaning, and that is the reason I went in. I don't think that they were as bad as the dentist said, (but I am not an expert). In my 56 years of life, every time I ever went in for a cleaning, I got a cleaning... up to today. Double thumbs down. read more

This week I had my 2nd visit to remove remaining amalgam fillings from my mouth. All interaction with this business is top notch. From Natalie at front desk, to Christine explaining costs of all work done, what my insurance would cover, to my dental assistant Erica, I felt like family from the moment I walked in the door. Dr Chad Hess performed all work to the highest level of professionalism. He treats his staff and patients kindly, explaining what he was going to do before he did it, checking in with me throughout each procedure. It is tough to sit in a dentist chair having major work done in your mouth for a little over an hour each time. I've been to many dentists in my time so for me to trust someone is difficult. If there was lower than ONE star, Boises Half Dental franchise has earned it!!!! Terrible service! I was there 15 minutes early as they requested to fill out paperwork and they said I would be in at 11am - my scheduled time. HA!!! What a joke! . Then I waited for 40 minutes and still never got out of the reception area!!! There were three girls cackling behind the reception desk for over 30 minutes and one girl from the back having a L O N G, and loud, conversation in the reception area with a kid about 4 wheelers! Two older ladies in the reception area were complaining about the loud conversation too and commented that this is the LAST time they would go to this Dentist. I went to have 4 cavities filled. I don't remember the name of my dentist but I was not too pleased with him. I came on time for my appointment but had to wait because no one in the office knew where he was. I felt like I was just a mouth with teeth instead of an actual person. The assistant asked about a certain tooth and he just grabbed my mouth and turned my head to the side to look. (May not sound like much but just lacked courtesy.) After he put the dental dam in and was working on my teeth, there were points where he moved his hand to where it covered my nose (he probably didn't notice) and I just had to hope he wouldn't keep it there too long so I could breathe again. I also had quite a bit of water trying to make it down my throat so I had to try to swallow it without closing my mouth at all so I wouldn't choke on it. They numbed my whole mouth and halfway through I had to use the restroom, he asked me a question when I got back and I tried to tell him I had just drank a lot of water that morning. They couldn't understand that I said 'water' and asked what I meant. Kind of frustrating to try to talk with your mouthed numbed. At one point he hit me in the forehead with the handle of one of the tools and didn't even seem to notice (not hard - but still, the courtesy thing). When my feeling came back I could feel rough spots where the filling wasn't smoothed down. Not a very good visit. read more

If i could give no stars, i would. The only thing i can say is worth the one star is the $35 cleaning/xrays they offer. But BEWARE, they are the most unprofessional dental office ever. I went in with a cracked tooth and brought with me some paperwork from a previous dentist (out of state), by the time i left after my cleaning, the paperwork disappeared . Well, that can happen, i suppose? That is not the complaint. They put a temporary in and gave me an appointment for two weeks to return. One day before the appointment, they cancelled, said the dentist was not going to be in? Then tried to reschedule for two more weeks. I said no, the temporary came out and i need to get in. They scheduled for a week later, then guess what, cancelled again. I made a third appointment for 9am on a Tuesday and drove the hour from my home to finally get it done. I arrive at 9am, the office is full of people waiting. I walk up to the desk to read a sign that says, have a seat we are in a meeting. 9:10 the receptionist comes out and i give my name. About 5 minutes later she calls me up to tell me my crown did not arrive. I was dumbfounded, unbelievable. I was not happy and expressed it. She said, let me get the "office manager" who came with a real bitch looking face and said, what's up, what's the problem? but come in my office as i don't want you talking to "our" patients. Hhmmm, what am i ? I said, when is the crown going to be here,? "how would you like to go around in the professional world, with a tooth missing?". Her answer, "i don't know, call Corporate." STAY CLEAR FROM THIS OFFICE. THEY ARE SO PHONY ACTING, LIKE THEY CARE IN THE BEGINNING BUT FOR WHATEVER REASON THEY STINK, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. read more

Where do I begin.... Well I wanted to take advantage of the special they offered for a $35.00 exam which included x-rays. I understand why it was a $35.00 service. The hygienists left me in the chair waiting for a half an hour, were aggressive and lacked bedside manner. I did, however, give the dental office the benefit of the doubt (as we all have bad days), and rescheduled to have implant work done since i felt that the dentist was knowledgable about what they were doing. I had applied for the financial credit that is offered at their office, through a company called HC Processing and was accepted for a line of credit no-problem. I decided to cancel my appointment, a week and half before the scheduled date and lets just say, since then, it has been a nightmare to get any type of customer service from the staff who deals with the billing. I have been told that the dental office would need to take care of reimbursement with the credit company before the credit company would quit sending me statements or making phone calls in an attempt to collect payment.I had received a bill from the credit company before any services were even rendered. This was a surprise to me and since receiving the bill so soon, I called the credit company to find out why, which is when I found out that the dental office bills for services before the work is done. Whether this is a standard process i'm not sure. I have called as well as had my daughter call on my behalf multiple times (since my english is not the best) also leaving a number of messages and have had no luck with getting someone to take care of this. Instead, I get the run-around. I have been patient in dealing with this matter, now for almost two months, and can't get any of the people in charge of billing to handle this matter and refund the money to the credit company. I would not recommend this office to anyone and will definitely not return for services. I am hoping I will not to have to pursue further action as this has already consumed a great deal of time. read more
