We visited Marche Jean Talon on a Monday morning during our Montreal-Quebec city summer vacation…read more From the variety of shops, to the quality of produce, it absolutely blew us away! Can't believe it's open all day every day; wish we had anything close to this in our neighborhood. Street parking was easy to find on a weekday morning, and the market was pretty quiet when we arrived just before 10 AM. We split a rocket, goat cheese, walnut panini on ciabatta, which was delicious. I also tried a few cheeses at the extensive cheese shop, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I could have spent hours at the marketing roaming, admiring all the vibrant, fresh produce, and watching local artists sketch and paint the floral section -- which is stunning. It was a great place to buy souvenirs and trip gifts from local vendors. If only we had time to come back to Marche Jean Talon multiple days on our trip. Highly recommend!

However, it's super touristy, which means prices are inflated and finding parking can be a literal nightmare. It's a cute place to visit on a sunny afternoon to grab a snack, but if you're just looking for cheap, quick groceries, you might want to look elsewhere.

They have the healthy power green juice in the big bottles, the sesame seed rice cakes, a whole section devoted to gluten free pastas - in fact everything in the store that is gluten free is clearly indicated with a blue dot. You can get Santropol coffee here and homemade peanut butter and organic canned vegetables and Indian food and organic granola bars and chocolates and sesame seeds and sulfite-free apricots. The staff here is funny, cool and incredibly helpful - I once had a guy who worked there take a bottle of mineral water out of my hands to show me the through-the-roof fluoride content in it while explaining to me about how this makes holes in my brain. A horrifying fun fact, and pretty much the definition of good-to-know info. If you're a tourist checking out Jean Talon market there is no real reason to shop here, but if you're a local there's lots to love.

Need some super fancy chocolate chips for your next baking adventure? They've got you covered. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and it's just overall a great place to have nearby to all the plentiful produce of the JTM.

They say they have "bulk delivery". You decide…read more Ali once claimed I was the St. Henri store's first customer. I have type-2 diabetes. Which I've mentioned multiple times to ALI, as I've tried for 40 years to get him to carry stevia, the only acceptable sugar substitute for diabetics (according to my doctor). So much fun realizing they just eliminated it from their shelves...altogether. But it was this bulk grain order that's turned me off this store, perhaps for good: I ordered 5 X 20KG bags of grain. Kamut, Spelt Rye, Buckwheat and Oats. The Kamut, Spelt, Rye and Oats arrived in a reasonable amount of time. And, as I am handicapped, Ali brought it right up to the third floor. Nice. I haven't seen any sign of the buckwheat, in the 5 months since. Despite Ali giving his word it was coming. But the oats were the kicker. "Not fit for human consumption" is the description I'd give them. Every mouthful a festival of oat husks, and I'm spitting that &^%%$ out for an hour after every breakfast. I told Ali about it, days after it was delivered, and again, he gave me his word it'd be replaced. 5 months later, I'm still waiting. When the weather's good enough for me to get to the store, with my two canes and without my ebike, limited to about 3 blocks range...I limp to the store and I'm told that "Ali doesn't want to deal with this." Well. I don't exactly want to deal with an enormous bag of pig-oats, which I'm now forced to eat every day. I NEED oats for my diet. And there's no way I can carry a 20KG bag downstairs to throw it out. So now I'm forced to eat BAD oats I don't like...and to wonder why I'm being treated so shoddily. So "bulk delivery"??? Meh. Use TAU

And if you bring your own bag, they just shove your purchases to the end of the counter and expect you to pack your bags yourself--paying premium prices for premium product and they just shove you off on your own. Their selection is somewhat limited at least at this location, although the store itself is fairly large. They also are frequently out of products--their organic cream, for instance, is completely out two out of three visits. We've been here about 7 times since we're new to the neighborhood but have since found much better natural food stores. Would love it if this place was even passable, since it is very convenient for us, but I think it's going to be a pass for us in most cases going forward.

POOR EXPERIENCE for a nice place. Never f*n going there again.
