Usually when a dentist is giving you numbing shots he will make it less uncomfortable. He did not do this. I just received a bill for $165.00 for a 3d x-ray that is not covered. I paid what they asked me to pay when I was there. I called about this bill and the girl said yes, insurance usually doesn't cover that. I asked why didn't you tell me that insurance would probably not pay for it. I then asked, if they could discount this amount to what insurance would allow. She said NO. I told her my dentist had sent me for a root canal of one tooth. I didn't see why they had to do a 3D of my entire mouth. If you go be prepared for additional charges that are not covered.

It seems to me that they decided they weren't goin to do the work, but wanted the X-rays to justify the copay for doing nothing. I'm sure they do a great job if they are going to try to save your tooth. However, feeling shafted leaving an endodontist isn't the feeling you want to have, and I certainly have that feeling.

I made the appointment and I still didn't know who dialed the number. I got there I was shaking, shaking I mean scared. Dr. Vance looked at me he said I can see how scared you are with just exrays. I made it through with Dr. Vance and his beautiful nurse. And so my journey began. I had not been to a dentist not even to take someone for an appointment. Y'all I was to scared to cry. Dr. Vance I had never met anyone like him. My appointment was in the afternoon and for him to still be as wonderful as he was still just wonderful. And I can't remember the beautiful caring nurse name. She helped me so much. Y'all I knew this was going to be a long process. If Dr. Vance could see my fear and make me feel at ease for just pics of my rotted out teeth. I remember I was trying to get food and chewing and teeth breaking as I'm eating. Sooo many years of people staring at mumble nasty comments. My family didn't treat me no different. But I tried to distance my self from the staring and this kid I was working at a grocery store and I would hear his song all I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth. They have certain clinic requirements at UAB to make sure students are well-rounded clinicians before they graduate and move on to residencies.The majority of the faculty are very caring, knowledgeable, and helpful especially in the clinical years.They are also well prepared academically as their 100% Boards Pass rate shows. I would recommend anyone applying to dental school or any residency program to consider coming and interviewing here if given the opportunity! I would also recommend patients to come here to get the dental needs taken care of here. Parking, however, can be a little tight. Unfortunately, the relationship had to be terminated due a billing dispute for $165. I ended up being compelled to pay the full amount despite explaining to them the unfortunate circumstances around the issuance of the bill. The receptionist was somewhat rude (not ugly) as she explained the situation on their end. I asked if we could meet in the middle to preserve the relationship (something their web presence says they value), but she was unable to come to an equitable resolution for me. They may have received their cash payment for $165, but will lose out on thousands of dollars worth of future claims payments from my insurer because they were unable/unwilling to compromise with a long-standing, reliable patient. With all that said, I will miss Dr. Davenport and I wish her well. I hope her office management team learns to see the bigger picture when it comes to preserving patient relationships, especially when the amount in question is so paltry in the long run.

He listened to me and made sure I was completely numb before working. The dental assistants were the most attentive people I've ever met in my life. I had THREE throughout my visit, two working with Dr Carson and one that just came to check in. They made sure I was comfy, allowed me to pick out a Netflix show and offered a pillow and blanket. A root piece of my bottom left tooth was being stubborn, so it took a good bit of work to get it out, but I have almost no swelling in my face right now. Maybe I will tomorrow, but as of now I look pretty normal. I took one pain pill six hours ago, and I'm not taking one again right now because I have no more pain at the moment. Every other tooth came out really quickly and it's clear that he cares about his job and is great at what he does. Since there was some trouble with the bottom left, they took six x-rays to ensure there were no broken pieces left. I can't say enough good things about this clinic, I would recommend them to anyone.
