Although it deems itself as the oldest shopping centre in Rochester, it's really a plaza. It was established in 1952 and there was a major fire in 1971. I'm happy to report that these events were both well before my time! I dropped by this plaza a handful of times as a resident of Rochester. There used to be a gift shop that sold Midwest of Cannon Falls s'mores characters. I bought a few of these characters as Christmas ornaments and a larger one that was a lamp. They are still with me to this day, but this company folded, as did this gift shop. Cannon Falls is maybe a twenty-minute drive northwest of Rochester. I don't recognize that town since I moved away. It's the same about Miracle Mile. Hom Furniture is one of two businesses that rings a bell. There's a new grocery store called Fresh Thyme Market. I exited Highway 52 and you can't miss this supermarket's large sign from it. I'd estimate that there are roughly thirty businesses in this plaza. Olmsted Medical Center is still kicking around, which is the other place that has endured. This plaza is perfect for folks who live close by and don't want the bustling feel of being downtown. This shopping plaza is roughly two blocks away from the Mayo Clinic's St. Mary's Campus. There is plenty of parking at Miracle Mile. I'll need to check this plaza out more closely when I'm back again and it's not my final full day in Minnesota, especially Fresh Thyme Market. It was quite the flashback heading over here. I am also from California, and a bigger city than them (Los Angeles, while they are from Sacramento which has a population of barely 500k while LA has almost 4 million, so it's pretty hilarious to see a small town guy talking like some big city bigshot), and I can tell you aside maybe two in all of California, the malls were dead - like completely dead - since around 2010. Big, small, doesn't matter, not only WERE they dead, they are STILL dead, the pandemic didn't even cause it, the insane levels of crime surrounding shopping centers and malls, along with the unbelievable prices of things in the state, did. Oakwood mall, however, is a really great place to go. It feels like the 90s again, every storefront IS a store instead of boarded up/fenced off empty nothing making you feel like the place will die off in a few months, there's always people shopping and hanging out, I often see people playing the arcade games in the middle of the walkways or just spending time there to spend time there. Mall culture was something I thought long dead but it's alive and well in Eau Claire somehow and every time I go it makes me nostalgic and happy to see. I've stopped in at basically every store as well (including the ones aimed at women due to my girlfriend) and they always have something worth buying, some new promo worth taking advantage of, other people shopping so there's not this empty feeling, and very kind workers at every store. Meh. This shopping center is not worth going out of your way for unless you work in Downtown…read moreRochester or are a student of the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR). Although it is open 7 days a week, there are less than 30 stores, and in my opinion, only one restaurant that looks worthy of dining at. All shops and restaurants are located underneath UMR between Broadway and 1st Ave., and is within walking distance of Mayo Clinic and a few other neighboring hotels. I'm not clear on where the parking area is, however, parking is free at night and on weekends. Check this place out anyway. Your opinion might differ.

In the same building as the Antique Mall, is an equally interesting business whose focus is home…read moredecor, of a sort. There's art in the traditional sense in the upstairs area, but the downstairs is devoted to other forms of home decor: floral arrangements, wall hangings, decorative paper and calendars, some dog and cat-themed goods, and toys for kids. Although the main floor is home decor, on the walls near the stairs is art in another form: primarily pottery that frames the stairs leading to the art gallery. If you enter through the doors to the antique side of the building, it's an interesting dichotomy: beautiful things from a time gone past, that have lasted all these years, shown in subdued lighting befitting their age, and then the archway leading into the new, modern, brightly lit Cranberry Country Mall with its modern fare. As I walked from one section into the other, I wondered if the things in this new section would stand the same test of time as those in the section I left behind. It's not a stately store, but it is a cute one.

One of the region's last malls still standing, the Marshfield Mall is a small place that (unlike…read moremany of it's contemporaries) is still mostly full of stores, and still neat and clean throughout. Their last remaining anchor (following Younker's bankruptcy) is Kohl's, though there are still plenty of other chain and local businesses packed inside. If you're looking for apparel, knick-knacks, accessories, or a classic "mall" experience, this is a great place to get it!

You are doing a massive disservice to your stores by keeping the entryway by the bustling Ocean Sushi in such a state of filth that one needs to apply a double layer of protective gloves just to open the door. At night, the grime caked in the cracks, crevices and corners of the entrance evoke that scene in every horror film of the naive woman in some squalid, abandoned building she shouldn't be in...about to walk through a door through which she shouldn't walk. While I don't expect to ever encounter a masked madman lurking behind the unlocked door, I imagine that the suspiciously locked adjacent doors can only be portals to Narnia, or lead to a "Let's Make a Deal" zonk prize of a goat, designer shoes carved from butter, or a 15-ft tall tricycle. Luckily the mall interior is much cleaner than the entryway. There just isn't a lot of excitement to be found inside, unless you are a kid frolicking in 8,000 square feet of entertainment space inside "The Playground." I look forward to updating my review and adding a star if the entrance ever gets a scrub down. Until then, I will not be deterred, continuing to push forth though that dirt-encrusted door. What can I say? Gotta get that sushi. Mall interior gets 2.75 Ocean Sushi Dragon Rolls Mall entryway gets a giant pump of Purell and one live donkey zonk.
