The pit itself is deep and not always easy to enter, so keep an eye out for paths that lead to the bottom. The area is pretty barren, but you may find the occasional wrecked/torched car, "art installation" (i.e., doll heads lined up on a log), or remnants of a fire pit and/or party. The emptiness and decay tends to spook visitors, so never travel alone! I used to come here a lot to go mountain biking with friends. The area has single track gravel paths for beginners and an impressive combination of man-made and natural stunts, hills, drops, bridges, and climbs for more advanced riders. I'm almost positive that the entire quarry is off limits, so watch out for cops or you might get busted for trespassing. But don't let that deter you from going! The Skytop Quarry is eerily wonderful.

Tried calling to confirm the price and to make sure I could walk in without booking first but got the voicemail so decided to take a chance and take the drive. The center is located inside of the Westvale Plaza. When I approached, there was a note on the door that they'd be back in 10 minutes, however the staff pulled up about a minute later so all good. Even if waiting was necessary, it wouldn't have been the biggest deal. They seem pretty slow on the weekdays and they operate more on a book-ahead model, so totally understandable. Good to know that it's probably a better bet to book online first! The staff was polite and helpful. I asked about the 50% but she said that was only if you booked ahead. I was willing to pay full price anyway. (Spoiler alert- when I got home and looked at my bank statement they charged me half price anyway, score! What a sweet surprise.) Setup was super efficient. I filled out a waiver and then headed into a getting ready area to watch a quick safety video and gear up. The system was really smooth and streamlined. While I was waiting for the staff to get my room ready, I started talking to another team member, who actually turned out to be one of the owners. She was super friendly and you can tell that she really cares about her business. She shared with me that she decided to start a rage room after facing a difficult time in her life and finding the practice therapeutic. She also mentioned that Smash already existed in Rochester and she decided to team up with them and open a Syracuse location instead of competing, which is pretty cool. Now, onto the actual experience. I went solo and got a starter box, which came with a bunch of dishes and bottles, a phone, and a printer. The room had a file cabinet for my personal items and a bluetooth speaker to play music. I blasted some Linkin Park, which worked perfectly for smashing music. Pro tip- come with an angry playlist ready so that you don't have to listen to YouTube ads. The smashing itself was heavenly. The starter box comes with 20 minutes. I thought that might be too much time since I was alone, but it was actually perfect. The plates and bottles broke instantly, but the electronics took a beating. I did feel a little strange and guilty causing so much wanton destruction, but it was also super satisfying to break a bunch of stuff without worrying about the consequences. There was a variety of weapons to use, including various size bats, crowbars, pipes, and a sledgehammer. Did I try all of them? Yes, I tried all of them. Did I have a favorite? Maybe. Super fun to test out how different materials broke with different weapons. I felt like a hooligan and loved every minute of it. This place would be fun to come with other people, but it was also a hoot to come alone. Such a unique way to blow off steam and decompress from work stress after a super tense day. Be aware though, this is a WORKOUT. I was sweating and panting by the end, and wish I'd brought some water with me. I was also glad for the disposable gloves under my work gloves because my hands were dripping by the end. Felt a little shaky driving home, so maybe not a bad idea to go with a DD- destruction driver! :D Honestly, this was so much fun and put me in a good mood for the rest of the evening. What a great way to take out my tension. Highly recommend giving them a try. This was for sure a "gotta try it once" experience, but I would for sure come back. Nice staff, good value for the money. What better place to do it than at a park. Especially one that has so much to offer. When I arrived I came at this park from the intersection of Madison & Ostrom. When I came here it was bit off putting to me as it was where the intersection was a bit wonky that allowed for vehicular to enter the park. So you needed to watch while you walking that no traffic was coming, or just walk about the grass, which is what I did. Being from out of town I had no idea what this park had to offer overall but I did do a lot of exploring which led me to a lot of different areas. I first just walked through the fields and along the tree lines. I backtracked a bit and stumbled upon the pool area. From there, I found the amphitheater and hung around there for a bit. After that, I found the football field and saw a lot of people using it for multiple reasons. From exercising, playing with their dogs, flying drones and many other things. I ended my time in the park at the rose garden. Roses were still coming into bloom, but I didn't mind that. I looked around at the different varieties of roses they had planted. I then sat on a bench for a few minutes to just take in this portion of the park. When I left, I was off towards Syracuse University campus. This park is enormous, and I am glad I was able to spend some time here.

It's a really nice, open park with lots of space to walk around. I do wish they had some sidewalks or something along the roads going up or down the hills, but that's one of the few issues I can think of. The park is maintained well, has a lovely rose garden (one of my friends volunteers here regularly, actually, which is how I found out about the park - they have a "Rose Day" in mid-June to celebrate, and I'm told that timing is mainly because that's when the roses are usually at their peak), and lots of fun features - like the amphitheater area, where my dog was especially interested in watching some folks who were preparing for a summer play. There's a pool area as well, tennis courts, concession area, and so on... and my pup especially seemed to love rolling down the hills just below the Thornden Park Water Tower (pictures included in this review, of course). It's worth noting that I *have* had a couple slightly sketchy experiences here... including one time being followed around by another park goer who seemed to be experiencing some mental health issues. As with anywhere, just be mindful of your surroundings.

It gets a wee bit slick though, so make sure you be careful not to fall on your behind. The 4d theatre is so cool! I am kind of a wimp when it comes to cheaper motion devices. It was super fun, I didn't feel sick at all, and I would do it a dozen more times if I could. They have all kinds of other cools things there. They have rope walk courses, basketball shooters, and natural disaster simulators! The group as a whole is super supportive. From new folks to obvious veterans they'll all be cheering you to the finish line, screaming great job and keep it up as you push to the end. I never imagined being the guy that woke up excited to see my little gym group, but here I am. From day one I felt welcome and included, and I think that's what makes this space so great. The spin classes with Allie, Amber and Heather have been a great addition for me as well, comparatively to my peloton my Apple Watch always reads a stronger workout with them. I do more classes here than I do home for that reason alone. If I had to find a complaint, it would be that I bought a peloton and haven't cancelled my other traditional gym membership long before hand.
