My OB referred me to Karen for pelvic floor therapy at Santa Maria Valley PT due to back and hip…read morepain related to pregnancy. Karen took the time to provide education regarding pelvic floor and the benefits of strengthening it, including alleviating back and hip pain. I was surprised how many exercises and stretches there are; all of which were helpful. Karen also gave me tips for movement during labor to help with baby's positioning and descent. The most helpful piece of advice was the updated recommendation of how to breathe while in the pushing stage of labor. For my first pregnancy, I was only in labor for ~6hrs and only pushed for 1 hour. The delivering OB relayed that I had no tears and attributes this to the daily stretches I did for about a month and a half. I had a very smooth labor and think that pelvic floor therapy by Karen greatly contributed. Thank you Karen!

Good experience at SMVPT…read more I had surgery on my lower back at L3-L4 and used the pool for aquatic therapy rehab exercises. It is a very nice, clean, warm pool. It has a 5' deep section and a 4' deep section. The changing rooms were always clean and in good order. I always saw staff cleaning the facility. Even though I wore a mask every time I went, the staff knew me and addressed me on a first name basis. It felt like I was a valued patient and that felt nice. While in the lobby waiting for my turn, other patients would come in and the staff knew their names too. They were never "lost" or confused or running around looking for stuff or in a bad mood. They had their act together. I was out of pocket for my treatments and the 1st assessment visit was $90 and the pool sessions were $75 each. Session = 1 hour with about 40 to 45 minutes of that in the actual water doing the exercises. The other 10 or 15 minutes to change in/out of clothes. Facility is not too small nor too big. I was very pleased that there weren't tons of patients and people coming and going. Thank you SMVPT!

All three of my boys are dyslexic, and I have spent years fighting a system that was fully prepared…read moreto let them fall through the cracks academically. By the time I realized how severe the situation truly was, thanks to years of the school district lying, manipulating and gaslighting me, my children were years behind and being pushed through school without the ability to properly read, write, or do math independently. I refused to allow that to become their future. Like many parents of struggling learners, I was desperate to find help -- and unfortunately, not all "experts" are created equal. We had an extremely painful experience with our first educational therapist, whose treatment of my child caused real emotional harm. After that, I became incredibly guarded, skeptical, and hypercritical of anyone I considered bringing into my son's life. I wasn't just looking for someone qualified. I needed someone safe, compassionate, ethical, patient, and genuinely skilled at teaching complex learners. Thank god for Kellie Henkel at Lights On Learning. Kellie completely changed Hudson's life. In just ONE year, she helped Hudson close massive academic gaps -- literally 4-6 grade levels in multiple areas. The progress has been unbelievable. What felt impossible a year ago is now our reality. Hudson went from feeling defeated and overwhelmed by school to believing in himself academically again. But what makes Kellie extraordinary is not just her skill level -- it's who she is as a person. She is kind, patient, calm, compassionate, encouraging, deeply knowledgeable, and an absolute badass when it comes to teaching kids with learning differences. She knows exactly how to push students while still protecting their confidence and emotional well-being. Hudson trusted her. He felt safe with her. She rebuilt not only academic skills, but self-esteem. As a mother who has lived through the trauma of watching her children be failed by schools and hurt by professionals who were supposed to help them, I cannot explain the level of gratitude I feel for Kellie. She will forever be part of our family's story. If your child is struggling -- trust your gut. Do not let anyone convince you your child is lazy, unmotivated, or incapable. The right intervention and the right teacher can completely change the trajectory of a child's life. Kellie Henkel did exactly that for Hudson, and I will never be able to thank her enough for what she has done for our family.

Kellie helped our son to improve his speech, reading and writing abilities when he was 5 years old…read more We noticed he was pronouncing certain letter sounds and words incorrectly and became concerned when we were unable to help him. We wanted him to get the help he needed before attending Kindergarten. We were so happy when we found Kellie and could not believe how quickly our son made progress. The very first day she worked with him we saw improvement and hope. Kellie is incredibly caring, patient, kind and resourceful. Not only did she help our son but she also helped my husband and I understand what was happening with our son's speech and explained ways that we could help him using her proven methods. Kellie knows how to engage with her students and makes learning fun and enjoyable. I highly recommend her!

Up until recently, we didn't know the brain could lack development in the pathways, which are like roadblocks. And our children developed around those roadblocks. However, science proves we can go back and repair the undeveloped neuro-pathways at any age. I was referred here by a family member who shared about Brain Boost Academy's unique innovative methods which help people who lack certain early neuro-developmental sequences, which affect attention, learning and daily home life. I know how difficult it is to have a bright child that is very over-active like a little tornado with a short-attention span. I couldn't keep up with him and had to keep him busy to keep him out of trouble. I learned that with an evaluation, the deficits could be identified and treated specifically and that it would require a developmental one on one program. Seeing the progress before and after has made me a believer. I saw multiple results of how the program works. I wish Brain Boost Academy was available to everyone everywhere!

I knew he could do better, and we were struggling with behaviors at home. Now his school work is improving and we don't struggle so much at home. We began seeing results about a quarter of the way through his program and he continues to improve each week. I am so thankful that we found Brain Boost!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience was important to share…read more My first visit mostly involved intake with the physical therapist and a short treatment on my hand, which seemed fine. During my second visit: * I only saw the PT briefly before being directed to a young assistant who was not a physical therapist. * The treatment room was extremely cramped with essentially no privacy between patients. * While using ultrasound on my finger joint, the assistant became distracted in a side conversation with another staff member. * The ultrasound wand was repeatedly left sitting in one place instead of being kept moving. * This caused a burning sensation in the joint. I understand ultrasound is normally kept moving during treatment, which is why this concerned me. * I moved the wand several times myself until I eventually asked her to stop as the discomfort was increasing. * I was also instructed to perform one of the exercises incorrectly. When I mentioned the ultrasound issue to the PT on my way out, the concern did not appear to be taken seriously. When I later called to cancel my remaining appointments, I had to leave multiple voicemails during business hours and received no call back. After four attempts I finally reached the receptionist. Overall, in my experience this did not reflect the level of patient attention or professionalism I expect from a physical therapy clinic. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes it helps improve patient care going forward. I have since switched to AG Physical Therapy, where experienced therapists provide focused, professional care.
