I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience was important to share. My first visit mostly involved intake with the physical therapist and a short treatment on my hand, which seemed fine. During my second visit: * I only saw the PT briefly before being directed to a young assistant who was not a physical therapist. * The treatment room was extremely cramped with essentially no privacy between patients. * While using ultrasound on my finger joint, the assistant became distracted in a side conversation with another staff member. * The ultrasound wand was repeatedly left sitting in one place instead of being kept moving. * This caused a burning sensation in the joint. I understand ultrasound is normally kept moving during treatment, which is why this concerned me. * I moved the wand several times myself until I eventually asked her to stop as the discomfort was increasing. * I was also instructed to perform one of the exercises incorrectly. When I mentioned the ultrasound issue to the PT on my way out, the concern did not appear to be taken seriously. When I later called to cancel my remaining appointments, I had to leave multiple voicemails during business hours and received no call back. After four attempts I finally reached the receptionist. Overall, in my experience this did not reflect the level of patient attention or professionalism I expect from a physical therapy clinic. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes it helps improve patient care going forward. I have since switched to AG Physical Therapy, where experienced therapists provide focused, professional care. read more

So I've been going to Beck and Cale physical therapy now for almost a month. Jeremy is the gentleman who works on me and seems very knowledgeable about the physiology of the body. This is a no nonsense type of physical therapy. If you're looking for something that's fancy, this is not it. This is a physical therapy, that works at getting you back to your optimum health. My introduction to the front office was not good at all. I spoke with Jeremy in that regard and let him know exactly how I felt about the greeting I received from the lady in the front. In mid 2024 No masks worn here at all and Covid rising. I am sick of medical businesses saying " It is not Mandated" so we don't have too. Wow. Altho I felt like she was well trained and personable , my first visit my very expensive AND the PT person's pace was WAY too fast for me to keep up with her on the training exercises side. I like to have things explained slowly and thoroughly. It felt like I was on a train bound for her retirement. Plus I had to ask for her to pull the privacy screen in addition to her sharing she was retiring next week . Why have me bond with someone 1/2 way out of the door you ask? I did not like the open forum of their location and finally when I tried to get a fee disclosure for insurance for the visit noone there had a clue and asked me to call their offsite billing department person who was very slow to respond and unfriendly in addition. This is a great physical therapist to go to if you're in Nipomo and don't want to have to drive to Santa Maria or SLO to get quality care. I got referred for a round of sessions here to treat a problem I was having with a pain in my knee and a pain and tightness in my calf, and of course when I had the initial consultation I had to lay down my extensive history of scoliosis and back problems, and the multiple rounds of PT sessions I had already done at other places prior, and the physical therapist assessed that my back problems were probably an underlying factor for the symptoms in my extremities I was experiencing. So he crafted a PT regimen not only to address the symptoms directly but also to further address my back problems, and that was much appreciated. I believe this holistic approach to treating the current problem I was having was the right approach. By the end of the round of sessions, my knee pain was all cleared up and my calf was significantly improved, with no more pain but still a bit of tightness every so often. With the continuing at-home exercises and stretches I was given to address that, as well as a handy calf-stretcher heel-rocker piece of equipment they had which they taught me a few exercises for and that I subsequently found a reasonable approximation of to order off of Amazon, I believe I won't be having any serious issues with my calf anymore. I did do a round of sessions for my back pain here years ago, probably about a decade ago, and at the time they were in a smaller building and I honestly wasn't too impressed with the experience. But they have since moved to a larger location and hired more staff, and I was much more satisfied with the care I received this time. read more

The problems that I encountered are with the front office. The older woman who sits on the left, Rosemary, lacks good customer care skills, appears like she hates her job. Certainly not a good first impression when you enter a medical facility. Besides her grumpy mood, she has poor communication skills. She constantly doesn't listen and cuts off patients when they are talking and has become quite defensive. I witnessed this with several other patients while waiting in the waiting area. She has also messed up my schedule on several occasions, cancelling appointments for no reason. At times, it appears deliberate-like she's angry. Make sure that you get a print out of any appointments that are made at the front desk for confirmation. Good luck if you have to reschedule over the phone, it's like you are speaking in an alien language. Dealing with the younger lady, Kayla, is not much better since she defers with the other one. Even after bringing the very poor service to the attention of the therapists, it didn't get better but became worse. Since these encounters, I question the training and management of this medical group. From other reviews, it appears that this has been a staffing problem for years and has not changed. My rating of the therapists has been fair as compared to my last 10 years of physical therapy in a variety of other facilities. The few therapists that I've seen there are knowledgable enough and have good patient skills. Ambiance of the facility is cluttered but seems to have enough of the equipment for proper physical therapy. Although I had high hopes for this place and the therapists are knowledgable, I strongly would not recommend this facility based on my experience with the front office. If I could give them a "zero" I would. Getting physical therapy should not be such a hassle. There are plenty of friendly front office staff in the local physical therapy clinics that are looking forward to your business and will treat you with respect. You deserve better. read more

This place is amazing!! The therapists are highly skilled. Also, they have RPW (ESWT), red light laser, and the Tens Muscle Stimulator. If you don't know, ESWT has been around for a long time as a therapy for calcifications in joints. You can read up on it in medical journals. The outcomes are unparalleled and it is non-invasive. I first heard about it from an auto-generated list of treatments from my orthopedist, although he didn't offer it. Typically, orthopedists do surgery for calcifications in the shoulder which is too bad because it's pricy and requires substantial recovery. ESWT uses the same approach as machines that break up calcium kidney stones, only it's made for joints. I used to have to travel to Pleasanton for ESWT on my shoulder. Now, thanks to Beck and Cale I have access to this on the central coast. My orthopedist was shocked when I showed him my before and after X-rays on my previous shoulder calcification. It completely eradicated it. I'm so grateful Beck and Cale has this technology available to their patients. They even roll it into your therapies without additional cost (which no one else does). read more

I went to these guys for a few months back in 2013. The therapy was okay (not great but not terrible) but the therapist, who I believe was either Beck or Cale, would always end up on the subject of Obama and how evil he is, and how evil Obamacare is, blah, blah, blah. He clearly didn't know that I was ON an early Obamacare plan (PCIP). As small business owners w/ a couple of pre-existing conditions, our family hadn't been able to even GET insurance for a few years before then. So, yeah, Obamacare sucks ass - but it's not as bad as not being able to get insurance at all. And hey, that's NOT what I was there for! Don't assume that everyone share's your political point of view while you're providing them with medical care. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I came in for physical therapy following rotator cuff surgery. First off, the receptionist was very rude from the beginning. Once I started therapy with Rhonda, she was so rough I needed two percocets just to get through my appointments. After 14 treatments, I coincidentally had an appointment with my operating surgeon and he was very upset and advised me to go to a different therapist, which I did. Said she was undoing all what he repaired. They also double billed me and my insurance which my husband caught and we were eventually reimbursed. Run, don't walk as fast as you can from this place. The only positive thing I can say, is the PT assistants were super nice as if they were trying to make up for what Rhonda lacked in compassion. read more

I just started physical therapy and I must say my therapist is taking my condition very seriously and making sure to take his time, so I don't hurt more than necessary. But the receptionist that works the front office is very very rude and unfriendly! I called to schedule my weekly appointments and she was irritated with me the entire time, as if I was wasting her time. I think this place is very nice but she is bad for business. It almost makes me not want to call there since she is the only receptionist. Customers should be greeted with a smile, not a scowl. read more

I had a full tear of a quadricep right tendon after a very bad fall in Sequoia National Park. It has been a tough journey the last almost 7 months. Therapy started in mid July and with their compassion, utmost professionalism , knowledge and humor I am going to be fully recovered. I can't express how professional and helpful this practice is , from the receptionist to the therapist.. all the aides are very greet full and helpful . My experience with PT at Beck & Cale was wonderful. PT was for a broken arm at shoulder and required 3 months plus of work with Don. He was great--therapy was a success and he had answers to all my questions and concerns--better than the doctor. Made an unpleasant condition as enjoyable as you could ask for. here is what I can tell you. I have had severe upper back pain for at least 2 years. I was referred to AGCH PT department by my insurance. they were super nice and professional, however, a the 5 month mark I felt not one bit of difference. my doc asked for an update and asked some questions about the manner of treatment....none of the therapies she asked about had been tried and the therapist at AGCH PT told me there was nothing more he could do for me....I contacted my insurance for another referral and they gave me Beck and Cale. sincerely, after only 3 treatments by Rhonda my back pain is reduced by about 60%. it wasn't fun, comfortable or pleasant...she caused me significant pain, however, she always asked if I could take it or if she needed to lighten up....I'm continuing my visits and the pain continues to lessen. I could not be happier. after being told there was nothing left to do, I now get deep tissue massage, manipulation of my spine, heat treatment, electric stimulation of the back muscles and exercises. much different that having someone watch me do 45 minutes worth of the exercises I was also doing at home. the assistants here are pleasant and helpful and everyone is friendly and professional. I highly recommend this business based solely on my own experiences here. I'm happy to be close to being pain free. read more
