First "the good"--This place has a great selection of things you won't find in a big box store. Folks are pretty helpful and the pricing is fairly reasonable. You'll pay a bit more than Lowes or Home Depot but for me it's worth it to get something you can't buy anywhere else. Next, "the OK"--the quality is so-so. I think some of their stuff spends a lot of time in the greenhouse. For example, their perennials are kind of leggy and their roses had "bloomed out" in early May--much earlier than they should. Shrubs and trees were better. Last, the "not-so-good"- Their return policy is pretty strict. They give you a pamphlet that shows you how to plant stuff and also has an entire page with their guarantee policy. Read the guarantee policy. There are all sorts of exclusions to their plant guarantee and you need to save the dead plant, tags and receipt. In addition, I purchased more plants than I needed (just in case) and luckily made it back within 48 hours (Apparently, you have 48 hours to return anything--even if it is still in the pot). Otherwise I would have been out of luck and even then, I didn't get a refund but store credit. Bottom line--this is a good place to purchase plants you can't get anywhere else but I'd go to the big box stores for the basics. read more

Lost us as a 40 year Customer in one day! Sad to say, but I will not be revisiting or giving this nursery my money any longer because of our last experience. We visited the nursery to get advice on some bushes that we needed for a particular high traffic area surrounding our chicken coop. We were told by the gentleman helping us that the Burberry bush would be what he recommended. Well we purchased 4 of them (not much money by the way under $50) and we were also told by that particular gentleman that there is a satisfaction 30 day guarantee and that if they "don't work" OR they die we can REPLACE them. We purchased them and planted them. They were an absolute wrong recommendation for the location because they were extremely spiky and even with watering them twice daily they were struggling and starting to die. 2 weeks later we tried to replace them. We walked into the store and explained the situation, and the gentleman helping us looked at them and said " we can't resell these they're almost dead!" we reminded him that we were told about the 30 day guarantee and he said they have to fully die for them to honor that warranty. I reassured him that we do not want our money back and we wanted to keep our money there and just replace them for something different. His exact words were " These are yours! You bought them! You're keeping them!" So, sounds like we would've been better off, not watering them at all, pulling them out of the ground, leaving them in our driveway to crisp and die in the sun for a full 30 days before they would honor their own policy. In my opinion would be dishonest, so we left them in their trash. We will be spending our money elsewhere. It's unfortunate that one bad experience after 40 years a faithful purchasing can be destroyed after one unhelpful incident. So for future customers, make sure you do your research before taking the advice and recommendations of the employees because they do not honor their word. read more

I visited Valley Nursery about two months ago. It was a few weeks past prime garden planting time, so my experience was likely different from shopping at the start of the season. Nevertheless, I still left with a backseat full of great finds! The selection of succulents is notable, spanning the entire back wall of a greenhouse, with myriad hardy and tender varieties. They offer all the standards, along with fun and unique or unusual ones. I additionally spied many large cacti specimens outdoors, which would make a stunning xeriscape. Other great finds include vibrant begonias, SO MANY coral bells and one of my favorites, hellebores. Really, their whole shade selection (oft neglected at other nurseries) was markedly large and well stocked. They sell a couple varieties of koi (small, and just basics), and had only a few pond plants, but I imagine (and hope!) stock is greater earlier in the season. In this same area, concrete benches, fountains, and other garden sculptures reside, along with loads of garden accessories and décor. There are rows and rows and rows of trees and bushes outdoors. We did not really look so I can't give much info, but my mom mentioned people seek out Valley Nursery particularly for their trees. Checkout is housed indoors, and there you will find all the bagged soil, amendments, fertilizers, etc. I was thrilled to discover ladybugs at a time when they were sold out everywhere, and I also grabbed a neat carnivorous sundew. I inquired after my long-sought-for pink currant, and when the cashier told me they did not have any, another employee quickly stepped in to say they do closer to spring. In fact, a big draw of VN is their customer service. We encountered many employees, and all were so friendly and helpful, even taking a moment to just chat at times. My mom, who shops here often, said this is always her experience, even when they are busy. There were plenty of handy plant carts, and about half the areas we looked were paved, but there are times when you'll either have to try to push carts through gravel or (be smart and) just leave them off to the side. Also quite a bit of parking, though I can easily imagine it full around the beginning of May when everyone is ramping up planting. Prices were in line with, or slightly less than similar nurseries in the area. Overall, a great spot, and I will absolutely return. read more

I love this place! First the service is excellent. Even when they're busy it seems like they still keep up. Their prices are comparable and in some cases a dollar or two less. They have an incredible selection as well as size choices and good quality. Great knowledge accompanies the purchase. I ordered 4 cubic yds. of planter fill dirt+ and delivery was affordable. They called before they came and showed up when promised as well as navigating our difficult driveway to deliver to dump the load on our basement level where we planned to use it. 5 out of 5 stars from me. read more

This is one of the best nurseries in the area. The workers are very knowledgeable and are able to answer any questions you might have. They're also very easy to get ahold of via phone, which isn't true of a lot of nurseries around here. I love that most of their plants have very detailed labels and instructions--it's very organized. Again, not everywhere has that, and in my opinion it's essential. Friendly and helpful staff, a large variety of inventory, and overall a great Nursery! Can't figure out how to respond to their response, so I'll through this out here. Valley Nursery's "cashier" explained to me what was in the mix I bought, never showed me "samples", she did not say 25% of it is gravel. In my phone call with the owner he told me that "I could bring it back and shovel it out"??? And, in a condescending voice. He claimed the gravel was to keep it from clumping? It's like 60% small bark and 15% top soil, 25% gravel. Nobody wants gravel in the flower/vegetable beds. His condescending attitude and total lack of kindness and customer service shocked me! Their cashier told me exactly what to expect I was getting, that's why I'm frustrated, and he doesn't offer to have an employee help me shovel this bulk material out of my truck? He said I could bring it back and shovel it out, which I would have done if he was even a little bit nice. I dumped it off a back useless hill on my property and lost $35 and 2 hours of my life. This nursery is overpriced especially for how weak most their plants are. Only reason I went there was because no good nurseries are open on Sunday and I wanted some soil bark mix. I call it a lesson learned and challenge anyone who cares about Gardening to read this,, go to J&J Nursery one time. Compare price and quality, and their Attitude, not to mention they have tons of employees to help you. We recently bought fruit trees from Valley Nursery and I was delighted at the knowledgeable, friendly service that we encountered. My girls were smelling Valley's incredible rose selection and the gardeners pointed out their favorites and let the girls have a few spent roses from the discard pile. Chance helped us pick trees from their huge selection and loaded the trees for us. Lily offered suggestions on products to encourage root growth and Jake helped us add a last minute peach tree, even though we had already checked out. The prices were fair and the trees looks great! I LOVE this nursery!!! I've been going to J&J's but stopped recently when I found mealey bug infestations there and aphids. I found this place instead and all of their pots are 50% cheaper then J&J's! The best part about this nursery is I haven't found one plant parasite, disease, or hitchhiker here! All of the plants I bought here are healthy and doing great! I'm so excited I found this place as I don't have to worry about pests and expensive prices! They do have really cute pots too! read more

I had my first experience there today. the place wave very large to my surprise. it's a hidden gem. the place was packed. if you see a parking place take it, a better one not too likely. once out of the car on the way in two employees asked if I needed help, while they were working on a project and I walked by. inside only a single helpful employee came by to make sure I was finding everything ok and if I needed help. check out, they were super nice and friendly. not yet finished, I waited by a pallet of dirt while the misses retrieved the car from a block away. protecting the last of the good stuff. yet another employee came by and asked if he could help me. I made a joke and thanked him and he moved along. as another employee walked by, I expected her to ask as well, no she just said hello and smiled. I then realized she had likely seen the previous interaction. We are currently doing landscaping for our front yard. Lots of native plants and focusing on drought tolerant options. Valley nursery staff were fantastic and helpful with our design and the facility is huge! Tons and tons of plantings. For the most part it was easy to navigate through the facility and the plants were labeled well to understand what plants were best for our project. Here's the deal- I think they have pretty good selection of trees and other plants with pretty good prices. My problem is there's a gentleman there who I assume, I don't know for sure, is a manager or possibly the owner and he has a really hard time sounding nice when he speaks to people. It feels like he assumes you're a moron and he's just a little to rude/grumpy. They should probably keep him hidden from customers because nothing pisses me off more than being talked down to. read more

My dad grew up on a farm and he's always loved yardwork, so he always took care of everything for our family. Needless to say, I love beautiful yards, but I'm not very educated when it comes to them since he always just did the work (other than having us help weed, mow, etc). That's what I love about Valley. When I'm not sure about something, I scout out an employee and they are always sooo helpful. Example: My husband decided he really wanted a Japanese Maple Tree. We went down to Valley and looked at all of them when an employee came and asked if we were finding everything okay. He asked about where we planned to put the tree, how much sun it was going to get, how it would get watered, and ultimately we discovered that currently we don't have a good place for a Japanese Maple Tree! My husband was bummed, but it's so much better than spending a Benjamin on a tree just to have it die! I'm sure one day we will have one of those beautiful trees, but not until we have a proper place for it. Also, last summer I started my first garden. I'm a complete newbie. I never had any idea how many varieties of tomatoes there are!!! This year I grabbed a few different kinds to experiment and see what I like. The selection of veggies and herbs here are great... although I was late to starting my garden this year and they were out of a lot of things! They didn't have any zuchinni, jalepenos, and basic herbs, but they told me if I came back in three days they would have another shipment in. I hate making two trips, but that's what I get for procrastinating! We've also got beautiful hostas and other perennials here. They have a great selection of plants that will do great in Utah. Sometimes you go to Home Depot and Lowes and while they have beautiful plants, the plants are made to survive in Utah! All the plants that I've grabbed from Valley are doing great! And with my newbie brain and very non-green thumb, I'm pretty happy with that. Check in on yelp for a discount, or search your money mailers for coupons! I came on 10/29/2016. I had just finished up working and had my tool trailer with me. Being the end of the season and a rainy saturday morning they were not very crowded. I parked in front of the garden area. I only needed 3 plants so I was going to be quick. As I asked a gentleman about the plants he told me I had to move because I was taking up his prime parking spots. I imediatly got back in my truck and left. Had there been a ton of people there I would have never taken up the extra spots but hardly anyone was there. I cant imagine treating one of my customers that way. read more

We've shopped at Valley Nursery plenty of times and our last visit we spent over $500. We had a coupon that we wanted to us after the purchase has been made. We called to see if we could still use the coupon the man that was over the phone was really nice said they would honor it if we brought our receipt back. Well we returned back to do that and we spoke to a man who appeared to be the manager he was really rude all the while telling us they wouldn't honor that. I was careful to keep my receipt for two O'Henry peach trees I purchased. One never survived, the other barely shows 2 leaf buds after a year. However, when I contacted Valley Nursery they blamed the problem on everything other than poor product; not enough water, hot summer, long winter. When I called J.J Nursery they said I could cut their trees down with a lawnmower and they would refund 50% if I wasn't satisfied. Trees are cheaper as well. Very disappointed about not being able to return a load of 'River Rock' just minutes after purchasing it... Decided it was not the right product for our application. They would not refund, not even consider exchanging it for other material... no refund necessary, credit towards different item would have been fine. Seriously, minutes after the purchase, and the Rock is not biodegradable or anything like that. I even volunteered to unload it myself... requiring no additional work on their part. I normally go out of my way to support local businesses but I also expect a little extra personal effort on their part as well. Makes me not want to shop there any more. read more

This place has a large selection but a lack of customer service. They are very understaffed so expect to wait if you have any kind of questions. We were just trying to buy a couple of trees and get help with planting them. It was like pulling teeth to find someone to help us. It appears they only have one guy and he had no interest until after July 4th which is late in the summer to be planting trees. Finding a place to check out was a mess too, everyone is overly busy. They have restructured a lot of their approach and appearance. We have shopped there for years and after the old man was no longer involved with operations some staff members were very brusque with customers. Last year there was a huge reorganization. Results are the Staff is more accommodating and though some of the summer help has some learning to do. Their delivery costs have come down significantly and the displays in their yard are great. I have alway's loved going to Valley Nursery, knowing they have fish and pond lilies for our pond at cabin, The best and healthiest Tomato, and vegetable plants. The variety of flowers in spring to plant and bushes are always healthy ,and exactly what I want and need. I get a lot of help from the workers on how and when to plant. The nice thing is I only live a couple miles from the Nursery now.And I have been going for years and coming from as far away as 30 miles, or more. So perfect now. read more

If you are just going to this nursery to get a pot of flowers or one little plant it isn't a bad selection. But if you think you MAY have to deal with the manager DON'T go here! We purchased many shrubs and plants for our new yard from them. Had one shrub that was mismarked at the nursery so we ended up going home with the wrong thing. We didn't realize until we got it in the ground. We quickly removed it and took it back the very next day. The manager just dismissed me as soon as I said we had taken it out of the pot. I went to look at the signs by the plants and sure enough it still had the wrong sign there. I told the manager, but he just walked away while saying "customers move those around". They could really use new management, owners. Customer service is very lacking. If he had been more kind or even helpful, suggesting that I look for what I really needed and he could make it right what a difference there reviews would show! Disappointed. Won't visit again. J&J is much better or Glover nursery in S. Jordon is definitely worth the extra trip!! This type of customer service is what makes a place go out of business! read more
