This place was exactly what you should expect from an animal rescue run by volunteers only! When we arrived, Cece was there to greet us. She was very helpful over the course of a few hours, showing us multiple dogs until we found our new forever dog, William (Tick)! We had visited the humane society a day before, and it was just a totally different environment, and I am very happy that we were able to find the Valley Humane Society instead. This is a place where you can tell every volunteer working loves what they do, and that's helping animals back to health and then off to their forever homes! I traveled over an hour and thirty minutes to visit, and I will happily do it again when the time is right! read more

Parvo Puppy Hello, honestly I didn't want to leave a review, but I feel like I have to let you guys know, On August 7th we adopted a sweet little angel named Paulo, originally we were supposed to take him home after he got neutered later that month but they called and let us know we could take him home early as long as we scheduled an appointment to neuter him when his balls dropped, so we drove an hour from Phoenix to go pick him up, we instantly fell in love with him. However something felt off about the adoption process, they didn't give us a vaccine record, or really tell us much about how to keep him safe or take care of him since he was 8wks old, i found it a little strange but I was mostly just happy to have my baby in my arms. I called about 3 days later and asked for his vaccine record, and apparently they misspelled gmail as "gmil" and that's why we hadn't received it. The next day they sent us an email giving us a list of the vaccines he currently had, and the upcoming ones as well. We played with him, gave him treats, and gave him a lot of love, after having him home for about 5 days the shelter called, they didn't leave a voicemail or email and they only called once, we missed the call and with no message left behind, we thought "oh we have a missed call from the shelter, it's probably something related to if we've scheduled a neutering appointment for him yet, we can call them back later". That weekend Paulo began to have diarrhea, coincidentally we had just switched his food and thought he might just have an upset stomach due to the new food. The next day around 9pm on Sunday, he started throwing up, even when I made him bland boiled chicken and rice to help soothe his stomach. I went through a list of at least 30 veterinarians in the area and finally found one that had a next available appointment for the next day at 2:30pm, that's when we discovered he had parvo. As soon as we brought him home from the vet he started having blood in his stool and we immediately took him to the ER, we tried contacting the shelter but they were closed Monday, and Tuesday and weren't able to get ahold of them until Wednesday, the call we missed on Friday was to let us know the rest of the litter Paulo was from had tested positive for parvovirus, they had let us take home a parvo puppy without knowing. After spending 4,000 at the ER, our baby didn't survive and now he's in Heaven. I know he's watching over us. If you adopt from here, or anywhere for that matter, make sure you get the list of their current vaccines that same day, and make sure to take them to the vet and get them tested for any potentially fatal diseases the same day. We had visited the Shelter Sun 1/8/2023. Shia told us all their puppies got taken to the PetSmart for the Puppy Adoption Event. Of course we went straight over there and fell in love with Pluto. It took them a while to find his paperwork because "his chip wasn't scanning", once they found it, she went over it with me (HEALTHY DOG) and started us on paperwork that fast. I paid and we left. That evening we realized the process was a mistake. This puppy was very sick ! I called and called, and like the other Parvo review, THEY ARE CLOSED Mondays and Tuesdays. So it was up to us to figure out what the heck was wrong with him. He wasn't eating, Bloody diarrhea, vomiting violently... mind you we have only had him for less then 10 hours. We took him in Monday, he had to stay with IV therapy and medication.. Now Wednesday I called and let me tell you, they could careless about the situation. There ONLY solution is to return him. No refund for his adoption fee, no help with the medical bills. Nothing. Our dog is still fighting, HES of baby and we're praying he makes it through. DONT ADOPT THERE! THEY WILL SELL YOU SICK ANIMALS! Adoption FEE 260$ now plus 1,000 for this medical and it's only been 3 days with him. He's only 4 months old... read more

With us living in Tucson, I was so happy today that Michaela answered the phone. I told her I was interested in a certain pup but really wanted more info before I hopped in the car for a 2 hour round trip drive to Casa Grande. Turns out she was superbly able to answer my questions about his: size, history, dog friendliness status.. because, as a bonus, he is her favorite shelter dog (don't tell the others). It gets better, she needed to bring some kittens to 2 petsmarts and said she could bring the pup along so I could meet him much closer to home!! He is beautiful, obviously very well taken care of and loved and tonight I plan to head back with husband and dogs to adopt him. read more

We had a TERRIBLE experience. I will preface this by saying that Ceecee was very nice. I called the shelter a couple of times the day before to ask about a particular dog for my mom. Ceecee was really nice and very helpful. I had asked if this dog is good with cats as I have two so even though the dog will be living with my mom, it would be around the cats occasionally for holidays, etc. She said she wasn't sure and would ask someone to take her around the cats at the shelter that day if they had time. I said that was fine but if they don't have time, maybe we could do that when we came down to the shelter the next day-June 23rd. I asked if it would be ok for us to drive down from Chandler the next day at around 10:30am. She said no problem. We (me, my mom, and my teenage son) get there right at 10:30am. Turns out there's a volunteer meeting going on so we needed to wait outside for a few minutes. Then Ceecee gets called into helping with an adoption so she gets another woman to help us. Again, no problem-at first. This other woman tells us-repeatedly-that she works with the cats, not dogs, but she'll be helping us. She takes us into a room and brings the dog in. Instead of allowing us to spend time with the dog first, three volunteers immediately put a muzzle on the dog-who is thrashing around-and take her to the cat room. The woman who does this is super nervous. It was quite obvious that she was completely uncomfortable. She gets the dog in there-we're standing on the other side of the door-and the dog is fine. However, the dog got the muzzle off and now the woman is panicking so she abruptly takes the dog out of the room. Now, a different woman-who is much calmer-takes the dog back into the cat room without the muzzle and low and behold, the dog does great! She then hands the dog off to the original woman-not Ceecee. We finally get to spend some time in a room with the dog and realize that, while she's a wonderful pupper, she's a bit too big and lively for my mom to handle in an apartment. Again, no problem. This woman now tells us that they have another dog who had come to them 3 days ago who might be a good fit. She is the only person this dog has met so she is going to go get her. She said they didn't know much about her and she hadn't been checked out by a vet or a trainer yet. In fact, she didn't know the answers to any of the questions we asked. The dog was wonderful and all three of us were bonding with her. My mom saw something on the dog's fur, bent to look closer and immediately realized her mistake. As she's starting to stand up and back away, the dog starts to bare her teeth. The woman hit my mom on her cheek-slap like-and pushed her. She then immediately puts the leash on the dog-who is shaking by this point-and starts to drag her towards the door. All of us are staring in shock and my mom asks why she hit her. She said she didn't. She said my mom could not have the dog and she couldn't let her go home with her. I said that my mom did not hurt the dog and I saw the woman hit her as I was less than a foot away when it happened. She said we could talk to her boss if we wanted but there was no way she was allowing the dog to go home with my mom. My mom was crying and shaking. We went outside and spoke with Ceecee about what happened. While we understand that the volunteers have to get between a distressed dog and potential adopter, ANY kind of touching/hitting is unacceptable. She could have shouted for my mom to back up (which my mom was already doing at this point). We did go through the shelter with Ceecee again, but none of the other dogs were a good fit. By the time we got back to the car, my mom was shaking and crying again. There needs to be better training for the volunteers here and, if someone is not comfortable handling the dogs (which this person clearly wasn't) they should have assigned someone else to help us or asked us to wait. Please take this into account when considering this shelter. read more

Very upset with news I found out after adopting my pet. I brought home a sweet girl on Saturday, and was told her past included having lived in a hoarding situation. I was NOT told that she had been adopted about a month earlier and run away from that family. I found that out by looking at their older Facebook videos and saw a video of a man telling the story of how my newly adopted dog ran away from her other adopters. I was just told she was a flight risk, not this recent detail of her past, which is pretty important information. I also inquired about her height and the height of my fence in my patio and was told she'd be fine as long as I was out there. It is now Monday and she has jumped my patio fence and is gone despite 2 of us being right next to her. If I had known she has a history of trying to run away and succeeding, I would not have adopted her as I was not equipped to handle a dog that jumps so high and tries to flee with this fence. It is incredibly upsetting that they did not disclose this to me, and I just hope she is not in danger. I hope to find her safely. read more

These are great people who genuinely care about the animals and the families they go to. We adopted a dachshund who had been given up for behavior issues. Chuck told us right away what her history was but also followed up with us to give us additional training to help us be successful with her. We are extremely happy with her and our experience with Valley Humane Society. read more

I adopted a dog in November (2019) & thought I had all my ducks in a row bc...I've had dogs before & I know what to do . But what I did NOT consider was that this wasn't a puppy that was starting from scratch. This was a 4+ y.o. dog who had been working with a lot of other people during her time in shelters. Thank God for trainer Chuck! (He had offered to walk with us in my home neighborhood when I initially got the dog but I didn't see the need...at the time.) Even 2 months later, a phone call to him was all it took for the offer of a training session to be repeated. It was amazing how much difference one hour made! Bc the dog was used to Chuck & the Humane Society volunteer walkers, she probably felt lIke she'd been sent to a foreign country when I took her home (& this is NOT a stupid animal). Now I know HER language! And Chuck has offered any further training assistance we need. This time I won't wait so long to call if I feel we need more help . Valley Humane Society is the only "NO KILL" shelter in Pinal County. They take in Owner surrenders as well as animals from Pinal County Animal Care & Control, Casa Grande Animal Control and Eloy Animal Control. They have been around since 1966 caring for lost, abandoned and sometimes abused animals and helping them to find their "furrever" homes. They receive NO government funding and operate off of donations and membership dues to care for all the animals.
