All the reviews are right. Simon is great. I had a spring break, but the garage door was always heavy to begin with. He found out the wrong size springs were installed for the weight of my garage door, which turned out to be one of heaviest models that were ever made. He had to make two trips back to the spring shop to get the perfect springs for my garage door. He made sure the door was perfectly balanced so it could open with two fingers. Great service!!! Having had a bad experience previously, I was reluctant to have a stranger come to my house and work on something on my behalf. I felt more secure with a recommendation from Home Depot or Lowe's. Unfortunately, Home Depot requires 48 hours & our car was stuck. I read some reviews on Yelp & found Simon. I spoke with him on the phone (nice, courteous, professional) and ran his business license and bond history through the system on Ca.Gov. He was licensed, fully bonded, & insured and it showed his on-going history of it as well. He quoted me a price ($150 plus 10% off for $135) which was the same as another place I had tried except theirs was just $135 with no pretense of acting like I was getting a discount first to make it appear more palpatable. He was finishing a job in Modesto and said he was heading off to do 2 more jobs in Turlock. He said he could squeeze us in and he did. He was prompt, courteous, and reasonably fast. I was impressed with his knowledge and skill level and overall command of all things "garage door" related. He even took the time to program the button in my car that would allow me to ditch the garage door remote all together and simply take advantage of my car's technology. The rep at BMW couldn't even tell me how to do that! Simon programmed it quickly for me and before he left, he shook my toddler's hand to thank her as well. He had installed two springs instead of the one large spring it had. He offered a reasonable explanation and said that the one large spring was simply installed by the home builder because it was cheaper but when it breaks, it traps the car inside which isn't great in an emergency. I would recommend him (and I'm tough to please)! The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars was because once he got here, he told me that the garage door was 8 feet tall and not the standard 7 feet tall so it would cost me more than the original $135 quoted. He didn't explain why the cost would increase (I don't know if he installed any different type of spring than he would have installed if the door was 7 feet). He didn't show me the difference between springs for a 7 foot door and an 8 foot door. He just said he had to increase the price. He was probably very genuine but it just reminded me of when a service provider scales your fee up or down based upon what they think they can get you to pay or when they see your house/car/other expensive "tell." Overall, I was skeptical of the other Yelp reviews because they seemed too glowing. But I concur with the comments therein. Simon is nice, professional, courteous, and willing to help his customers. You can tell that his reputation is important to him. He even explained that Yelp reviewer who had 2 garage door repairs (one in 2011 & one in 2012) which gave me some pause for concern. [If you're wondering, one was for the home of the reviewer's mother and the second was for his home in the Bay.] I liked him. I'd use him again. He also warranties his work for five years. UPDATE: A day or two after I wrote this, the garage door stopped working. It would start opening & after it got 6" off the ground, it would JERK furiously. Even I could tell by the way it jerked that it wasn't a motor issue but Simon came back out, checked his original work & the problem, & said we'd have to pay $600+ more for a new motor. My husband looked at it & it turns out Simon just hadn't fully tightened the screws. We haven't had any subsequent problems since my husband fixed it & we saved $600-$700 in unnecessary charges. Simon kindly offered to come back out a third time and look at it since he warranties the work but I opted against it at this time. read more

I contacted Simon to help me resolve issues with my garage door. Per his assessment, I was told I needed to replace my garage door motor, and garage sensors. About a month later, I once again experienced issues with my garage failing to open or close. Simon was contacted and he advised the motor and sensor needed to be replaced, again. While Simon was at my home completing the warranted work, a large dent "mysteriously" appeared on my very expensive vehicle. My vehicle was parked inside the garage where Simon was bringing tools in and out. The damage appeared on the same side Simon was working around. I gave Simon the opportunity to admit his "mistake". However, he continued to deny. I never expected to pay for a service, and have my property damaged. He came and gave me an honest estimate as to what I actually needed to fix my garage door situation. I had done some research and home depot wanted to charge me double what he charged.
