I had a disappointing experience at Valley Fabrics. I was really looking forward to shopping for notions and fabric, but I walked out with nothing. I asked about pinking shears, but I couldn't remember the name and I called them zig zag scissors. Apparently this was ridiculous, and they don't have them anyway, and I was directed to shop at Walmart or online. If I wanted to shop at Walmart or online, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to go to a locally owned business. read more

Valley Fabrics is a beautiful shop for the modern quilter. They sell a wide variety of fabrics from top notch designers, along with a great assortment of patterns, tools and accessories. They even sell and service Bernina machines and long arm quilting services. The employees were very friendly without being pushy. I will definitely be returning soon. read more

Three ladies, tick under $500 spent and the (assuming) owner begrudged us a few pcs of Halloween candy set out in a pumpkin bucket. 'That bucket was full, look how much is left'. Please BEWARE: I am a professional nurse and I almost never complain because the world we live we all have bigger fish to fry! However, I went into the shop 9 weeks ago yesterday and I wanted to have a quilt quilted for my one and only niece (no nephews) for her wedding shower Nov 8th. I stood at the desk and specifically asked what the turn around time was and they told me 8-10 weeks. I had my cell phone and opened it up at the counter and I checked my calendar and 10 weeks would bring me to 7 days before the shower. I know that may be cutting it short but I knew I could get my binding put on in a week once I got the quilt back and honestly I didn't expect it to take the full 10 weeks so I choose a pattern and left it. This past Friday was 1 day before the 9 week mark so I called the shop to make sure everything is on target for me to have my quilt back by next Saturday which would be the full 10 weeks. They said they would check and call me back. I received a call back within an hour from Karen telling me she was sorry but they cannot get it to me by next Saturday. My heart dropped to the floor. I thanked her for checking and told her I would pick it up the following morning when they open. When I got to the shop I was telling a girl at the desk that I had called the day before and the owner stepped in and took over and said YES, you are here to pick up your quilt, I will go get it. There were 3-4 women working all at the desk when owner said this and they all said "how exciting" to her remark I was here to pick up my quilt.....sigh......The owner said NO, not exciting and walked to to the back to get the quilt. There was 5 minutes of uncomfortable silence as these girls had no idea what was going on. The owner approached me with my quilt in a bag and said "Do you have someone to quilt this for you?" I replied "I am not going to discuss that with you", she said" well, I just was going to make some recommendations to you", I replied "I don't need your recommendations". I took my bag and was walking out and she said "I'm sorry"! REALLY???? I am so hurt I will not have this quilt for my niece for her wedding shower. The owner needs to take a class first with Dale Carnegie to learn how to communicate with her customers and her staff. There was no reason for me to get upset and yell because she doesn't care! I stood at the desk and counted the weeks to be sure I would have this beautiful quilt done. Now she says "it's just an estimate, depends on how big the quilts ahead of me are"......shouldn't they be tracking this? Shouldn't she have called to give status updates???? Not if she doesn't care! This is a revised review. I happy to say my problem is 100% resolved and Valley Fabrics deserves a 5 star review for service recovery related their machine maintenance services. Now that my problem is resolved it's not fair to delve into the issue, but I can now confidently say that if you ever have problems with getting your Bernina machine serviced Valley Fabrics does not hesitate to keep their customers happy. I will now definitely use them again for sewing machine service and thank them for being so professional and diligent. read more

I came upon the fabric store while trying to store in Northampton mass. I walked through the door of the was greeted by the most beautiful display of vibrant. Happy colors. I was very lost. I had been on the road for an entire hour from Hartford, Connecticut. The staff was very cordial and they made sure that I would find my destination. When next I go back up to I will make sure to make time for a visit to Valley fabrics. This store is pure joy and excitement for any fabric lover, quilter or maker. I traveled to Mass to visit my daughter and googled the nearest fabric shop....holy smokes did I find a gem! You walk in and it's all about color at every turn, everything in so nicely organized and neat. The selection of modern fabrics is outrageous, every top notch fabric designer and manufacturer. For fat quarter lovers, you will flip your lid at the selection, an entire wall all organized by color. The staff is so warm, helpful and friendly without being too in your face, they understand how most shoppers want to browse and wander then make decisions, yet they are right there to answer your questions. I broke a part on my Bernina Serger that I purchased from Hinkletown Sewing in Ephrata PA and who have serviced both my Sergers and Sewing Machines for many years. However on moving to Massachusetts I needed someone else to deal with the repair. What a great mistake to go to Pioneer Valley Fabrics. After $154.00+ my machine remains broken. I offered to purchase the original diagnosed broken part and they agreed. After a wait of 5 weeks I received a call saying that I could pick up my machine but it was not stitching and needed a new throat/needle plate that I could replace myself since I had purchased the other part and appeared to have a source for spares. That assumption was wrong since I bought the lower looper from ebay and had to call Hinkletown Sewing for the new part. On fitting the new plate the serger still does not stitch or run well. I am at a loss and have contacted Bernina International for help. I have sewn with Bernina machines for 55 years and NEVER had a problem with service. DON'T TRUST THEM WITH A REPAIR!!! read more

I drove 45 minutes from Wilbraham and this shop did not disappoint. I only have Joanne's within a 15 mile radius and while that's fine for solids, it's so hard to find the beautiful specialty fabrics you can find here. I had 4 or 5 very specific things I was looking for and I found them all. I'm so excited for my new projects. And my 2 year old had some toys to play with while I looked for what I needed, which is always super helpful. I'll definitely be back. read more
