When looking for a facility to put my parent, I "shopped" around Modesto and kept comparing everything to Valley Comfort. It's not an easy decision to put your parent into a home, so I wanted to make sure I found the perfect one. Valley Comfort was it. The care and attention my parent is getting puts my mind at ease, as I know my parent is in the best hands possible receiving the best care. My parent seems happy, so I am too. Another big thing that made me choose Valley Comfort is the staff. Nick is awesome, when he took me on the tour of the facility, what really stood out is that he knew everyone's name. It showed me that they really take the time to get to know each person. And for the rest of the staff, they are all so friendly and extremely helpful. It makes it feel really family oriented. How sad to see the response to my original review. I must correct the false statements ascribed to me. We used a placement agency which negotiated the $1500 fee for us. We made no comments about the fee other than to pay it. But if it was indeed only half the usual amount, then the point is that a "fee" that is non-fundable of that magnitude is quite a gamble for people if it doesn't work out. I am shocked to see "we recommended from the very first day your mother lived with us to move her to a higher level of care." The first day I received a call from Nick saying that my mother was doing great and he saw no issues. From that time on it was me pointing out the lack of showering and med issues to the front office. We were VERY upfront about her needs including cuing to get to the dining room and to take showers and meds BEFORE she moved in and we were ASSURED by Nick that this was common and no issue for the staff to handle. Even if it was true that you told us she needed a higher level of care the first day, WHICH IT IS NOT, that would just amount to a bait and switch. Pay an exorbitant non-refundable fee and move in and then be told your loved one should be moved to a much higher and costly level the first day. No family should have that happen. The facility should endeavor to place residents properly before they move in. I will also reiterate again that what finally made me put in notice was that the ER called and said the EMTS saw red flags that the valley comfort staff knew little about my mother's health conditions and also that the valley comfort staff told the EMTS that my mother self-medicated, which the EMTS thought sounded strange and untrue. My review presented the facts of what we experienced. People can draw their own conclusions from those facts. Nick you say you figured things would end this way. I can't imagine why as our family was never anything but amicable toward the front office and staff as we did our best to make the situation work. We were more than patient with valley comfort's inability to provide the promised services of showering and giving medication. I think the accusations made in response to a truthful review of our experience is quite telling. read more

I appreciate the compassion & understanding that Nick & his staff have shown us, while we attempt to transition my dad to Valley Comfort. My Dad has dementia and my Sister was his full-time care giver. We needed a community for a respite stay so that my Sister could take some time away. We were especially apprehensive to have our Dad stay in a facility because of the risk of covid right now. Valley Comfort was able to provide a safe respite stay so that we knew our Dad was in good hands while my sister was away. Nick Gaither was the main contact we worked with and spoke to and he is so genuine, helpful, and just so nice! His compassion and understanding for individuals and their families dealing with dementia is above and beyond! He has followed up to ask how our Dad is doing since the respite stay and has helped provide tips to keep our Dad's quality of life as high as possible. Dementia is so hard on the families (our Dad was diagnosed ~5yrs ago or so), especially when one person is providing most of the care, and it really meant a lot to us to have a stranger be so welcoming and have genuine concern for how our Dad is doing, even after his stay. I would definitely recommend this community if you need a respite stay or are looking for a long-term place for your loved one! read more

I would give zero stars if I could!!! Everyone is super nice when they are trying to get you to spend your money. After that it is a warehouse for your loved ones. It is extremely understaffed with little supervision or interaction with the residents. The nurses and aides are very nice and qualified but very few workers per shift. I rarely saw a staff member. There are just to few to be able to attend to so many residents. They can only do the bare minimum. I felt sorry for the aides. But more sorry that families are deceived into thinking this place is of any quality. It is clean and decorated with wreaths and stuff. It comes across as impressive looking but it is a lonely place. And your family will be alone. It takes the staff an hour to answer a light. They just don't have time. They charge extra for everything! The office staff comes across very nice and says what ever they can to get you to sign-up. They tell you how they are going to help get your family member to adjust. LIES!!!! Once you leave all they said is just words!!!!! Your beloved family is truly left there on their own. Please do not send your family to this place. It is heart breaking. I spent so much time there visiting. I regret so much even stepping foot in this place. read more

The reassurance and security they provide for my family is more than we can ask for. They treat you like family and take care of my grandmother as if she was theirs. They are very family oriented. My aunt (Grove) & father (V.C.) were cared for to their last weeks, days & minutes with compassion, attention, gentleness & services. They coordinated with health care, podiatrists, hair dressers, entrainment, worship (before covid), exercise and special dietary needs & HOSPICE. They fought all deaseses Tooth & nail (but not the crazy sides). The puppy was a nice aid during covid! The medtechs knew their stuff. Never saw a missed med and they challenged RX when appropriate. They knew how to adjust meds & diet as my family lost their abilities to swallow. The cleaning person even assisted my aunt in drinking from a straw while she was vacuuming her room. Caught her doing good!! True,, there were tough times,, but I can't imagine giving that care at home, even with 24/7 help. Some small nonvaluable stuff was lost, but I never suspected staff. Dementia residents can "tend to aquire or share things." The cook LOVES to give residents what they want. Specialty foods brought were served with pleasure. I came all times of day/night and always found my family (& every resident) clean, clothed & cared. I would give them 10 stars if I could!!! My grandma has live here for about 5 years now and my family couldn't be happier with the care that she is receiving. I don't get to come as often as I would like, but every time that I come visit her she is always looks as she was just showered and she always smells good. Even though my grandma has dementia and requires ALOT of help, they still give her the dignity and respect she deserves. The building has beautiful landscaping as you enter. It has always smelled good and free of urine. The inside is beautifully decorated always looked so nice and clean. I usually only come on the weekends and the place is very well run even when the owners aren't there. I never worry about her safety when we aren't able to make it. My parents visit her very often and have ALWAYS been pleased with her care. The care staff and owners (office staff) always take care of things in a timely manner and will typically handle the situation before they even call my parents. My grandma was moved here from another local facility and WOW what a difference. If you are looking for a place for your family member, this is the best place in town by far!!!! read more

I'm writing this review for my friend Frances, that isn't computer savvy. Fran's Aunt Lena lived at Valley Comfort for many years. Lena wasn't able to participate with the daily activities or exercise programs, but she liked sitting in her recliner & watching the events going on during the day. Aunt Lena loved the care staff and was very happy living at Valley Comfort. If any of you are looking for a care home for loved one with Alzheimer's & Dementia, I recommend coming over to Valley Comfort for a tour. You'll be impressed with cleanness of the well maintained facility. My mother was a resident of Valley Comfort for almost 5 years. The staff loved on her as my extended family when i couldn't be there with her. I truly believe that without the tender care she received she would have passed away a lot earlier than she did. I am thankful for the extra years I had with her. One of the worst nursing facility I have ever walked into and experienced. The facility is ALWAYS under-staffed. They only have one or two caregivers per each 3 stations. And in each stations are like about 30 residents. And each resident needs at least two caregiver to receive assistance. So the rest of the residents are left neglected! The caregivers are lacking professionalism and communication skills. It is so sick to see how the managers/boss are running this family owned nursing facility. I bet the staff are only getting paid minimum wage with no benefits for all the hard work they are doing. It's a very sad place. The residents don't make it sad, but the whole system of how this facility is running... IS VERY SAD. It's like this isn't America, but a third world country. I would give this zero stars, but Yelp doesn't have that option. read more

Valley Comfort is a beautiful facility and the perfect location for specific individuals. It is not an appropriate place to house someone whose state of physical impairment and confusion requires substantial support. I would trade all the wonderful activities and even a bit of the cleanliness any day to have had my father provided with assistance and support when he needed to go to the bathroom. The level of staffing is grossly inadequate for an individual in transitional stages of dementia: specifically, someone who cannot get out of bed or out of a chair safely and cannot remember that he cannot get up; someone who cannot remember how to push a call button to summon support; someone who cannot wait the requisite half hour or more for the support needed. I do not for one minute complain of the quality of the staff. They are very hard-working individuals with enormous hearts. The resident to staff ratio, however, was inadequate in the extreme for our family member. Consider this placement with extreme caution because there is a move-in fee that is non-refundable and an activities fee that is only refunded on a pro rated scale. That's an extra $1,500 initial cost added to the monthly cost, and since admitting a loved one to this facility is likely to be part of a trial and error process, it can be an expensive mistake if it's not a fit. read more

Our mother has lived here for over a year. All of the staff is always warm and friendly to everyone. Whenever Mom has had a medical situation they were right there to get the help she needed.
