I just finished four weeks of daily radiation for breast cancer from Dr Uhl at Epic Care in Emeryville. I can't speak more highly of Dr. Uhl and her office staff. Dr Uhl explained everything thoroughly, was compassionate and very professional. So was her medical assistants Gloria and Alejandra. When I entered the office they always had a smile on their face and answered all my questions. Michelle, Robyn and Diane, the radioactive technicians, were caring and professional. Dr. Valerie Uhl was amazing!! She is patient and took quite a bit of time with me to explain the radiation process I was a candidate for. It was specialized as a one time treatment and only a small group of doctors are able to provide this level of care at the same time as my surgery. I am very pleased with the care I received at the Emeryville clinic. Dr Uhl explained everything with great care and detail. She also gave me her cell phone and email for questions in between treatments. Her knowledge and experience were a great comfort to me. Dr Sachdeva was also very professional and kind and took great care of me. Jenifer the medical assistant was very gracious, kind and helpful, and checked in with me about how to navigate the facility, informed me if there was a delay, and put me at ease. Dr Uhl is awesome. If you need to see a radiation oncologist, I highly recommend Dr. Valery Uhl. She's a trusted referral. My cousin (head of oncology at a Bay Area hospital) recommended that I see Dr. Uhl. She talks to you like you have a brain. You have googled medical terms, asked friends, done your research, and you have questions! So did I. I met with Dr. Uhl and spoke with her at length to understand the radiation process and plan out my treatment options. Debunked a few myths along the way. Dr. Uhl's treatment protocol incorporates an active breathing technique. This way, the distance is increased between the area receiving radiation & the heart. When I had a recurrence of cancer after prostate surgery my urologist referred me to Dr. Uhl for radiation therapy. I asked him what he thought of her and he said, "You'll love Dr. Uhl. Everybody loves Dr. Uhl." Well, I've been seeing Dr. Uhl for 15 years now (first for that radiation therapy and then for yearly follow ups). According to my ultra-sensitive PSA tests I have been cancer free for well over a decade. During my radiation treatments Dr. Uhl and her group of technicians were excellent in every way. When I started the process I was pretty much stressed out thinking about cancer coming back. Right from the beginning, however, Dr. Uhl and her team helped me focus on working towards a cure. She explained every procedure in advance and met with me on a regular basis during the entire time. She even had a stress counselor meet with me. When my treatments were completed it was sad saying goodbye to all those good and competent people. For several years after radiation I saw Dr. Uhl every six months for follow up exams. Since then it's been once a year. From the first exam until now every office visit has been positive, thorough and personalized. We consider my current general health as well as my most recent lab tests. And because Dr. Uhl cares about my total well being we often discuss a wide range of health-related topics. I want to say first that Dr. Uhl was the best doctor we had throughout the 10 years of my wife's cancer treatments. She is extremely well organized and always spends enough time with you to really find out where you are in your overall treatment and how you are feeling. She also has a very positive attitude which was very much appreciated by my wife and me. We always felt much better after having an appointment with Dr. Uhl. i saw Dr Valery Uhl for radiation treatments and she is really excellent! A cutting edge leader and expert in her field, I was lucky to have had her as my radiologist. The thing that sets Dr Uhl apart is her ability to connect with you and empathize which makes you feel cared for both physically and emotionally which is important when you have breast cancer. Many doctors are very good technically, but will they go that extra mile for you? I hold Dr. Valerie Uhl , radiation oncologist, in high regard. She is very bright, personable and answers every Question I have with lots of detail , anticipating things i gave not even thought of. From my first meeting with her, she made me feel relaxed and she instilled confidence. The patient was trying to locate another doctor (not in Pleasant Hill office that day). What impressed me the most about this call was that Laura went out of her way to find that doctors location, contact them directly, provide patients information to whoever answered that call, get back to the patient, explain all the details and transfer that patient so they don't have to make another call and repeat themselves to someone else. This was so impressing to me because I've been on the other side of that line calling with anxiety and stress and I was so happy to hear Laura go above and beyond to help this patient. DR. UHL IS THE BEST!!! I had breast cancer 10 years ago and Dr. Uhl was the best doctor I have ever had. She took me through a scary process and guided me through all my treatment and was always there for me. She spent a lot of time explaining the treatment and what to expect. I used to come running to her office after every mammogram and she was so patient and reassuring. I have now hit my 10 year mark and am doing great. Because of her, I am no longer scared of mammograms. She cured me of my breast cancer and I ask her every year to keep seeing me.
