I'm torn. I love my hair color and style! I loved Jessica and Fernando! I loved the convenient…read morelocation! Why am I torn, I guess my standards were stretched too thin. Maybe I'm too judgmental? Maybe I have a different set of expectations? Here is my story... I took a chance after reading so many positive yelp reviews and purchased a Groupon for a full highlight, deep conditioner, cut and style. I called to make an appointment and left a message. I waited three days. No call. I called back and left another message. Two days later I get a voicemail back to call them. I called AGAIN, this time got someone in the phone who said she would call me back and they didn't. If I hadn't already purchased the Groupon, I would have moved on, but since I had already paid for this, I was going to use it and now I'm already skeptical. I called again, spoke with someone and made my appointment for a mid week, mid morning appointment. My appointment day comes, I get to the salon 20 minutes early. They seemed off guard by this, but I was always told to come early for an appointment, especially when trying a new place. I also didn't know who my appointment was with. They told me the appointment before me was late so they may take me earlier. Ok, I have a seat and enjoyed the high energy music. They busy themselves on the computer. No one else is there. 15 minutes later, Jessica introduces herself to me and we get going. I'm quickly informed that toner was not included (aok) and it was suggested that I use a processor to cover my grays for $45. I declined and she went to mixing. When she came back, she suggested doing highlights and low lights to better blend for $20. I agreed. I appreciated her advice and it was totally a great move! Jessica was friendly and personable. The phone rang a few times and she would stop what she was doing to answer it. I have never been to a salon where someone would stop working on your hair to answer the phone or to chat with a sales guy who walked in. That was just weird. Soon I was ready to cook. Jessica said they got a new steam chair that she wanted to try on me. She fiddled with it, said it was on and then went back to the computer. After a few minutes, I asked if it was on since I felt or heard nothing. Francisco came to check on it, and sure enough, it wasn't on. Once it got going, it did feel nice and I can see the steam heat did wonders. I was under it for a while, and when I started to feel drips, I asked her to come check on me. At that point, I was done and ready to wash, style and dry. The place is clean and comfortable and they really know what they are doing. Like I said, the end result was probably one of the best colors and styles that I've had, just the process to get there was a little off. Maybe they were having an off day? I'd like to try them again and see...

If you'll excuse me, I have to go look at my hair in the mirror again. ;) Muito obrigada, Jessica!

She has been cutting, styling and coloring my hair for over 20 years and I've yet to ever be disappointed. She knows exactly what cuts and colors will look good on me, and her suggestions are always the most flattering. When she first starting doing my hair, I was only 13 years old, and it was very convenient that she was located in the same town I lived in. As I got older I moved about 30 minutes away and refused to look for a closer hair stylist. The travel for me was worth it. And her new location, though farther away for me has not deterred my insistence that she be the only one who touches my hair. It is very conveniently located only a few minutes away from her old locale. She has done everything from perms (when they were stylish) to adding gorgeous blonde streaks to my otherwise dark hair to cutting off over 10 inches into a fantastic bob. Every time I leave there, I feel fantastic. She styled my hair for my wedding and I'm still receiving compliments on gorgeous my hair looked on that day. Paula never rushes through a cut or style to get to her next client. She will step back and analyze her work so far and see if there's something she can do to make it even better. As for my appointment yesterday, it was my first trim in about 6 months, just a wash, cut and blow-dry. Nothing fancy, but when I left, I felt amazing. On my way home, I had to do some errands. Well, I received two compliments from an employee and customer at Whole Foods. As well as a "Wow, your hair is so beautiful!" from a random stranger in Target. Being a mom of two little ones, these kinds of compliments don't come often, and I knew it was a direct result of my trip to Paula. She is a talented hair stylist who takes the time to know her clients and their styles, and is always keeping up with the latest trends and learning new tricks of the trade.

I highly recommend her to anyone that wants their hair done right and love the way it looks and feels. I posted a couple of pictures of my hair done by her today. She and Mae did an amazing job as always!

The salon is inclusive and can accommodate diverse needs. In addition to typical hair and extensions, they specialize in hair loss including trichotillomania and alopecia, as well as hair for transgender folks! I was relieved to feel the welcoming environment, not just with hairstylists, but also the other customers who come to Noelle's for both hair and acceptance. An added benefit, Noelle and team also "edit" the hairpieces to cover and prevent trichotillomania hair pulling to help with stopping. Noelle did my hair (pic attached) and let's just say I came in with way less hair and left looking extremely cute. I recommend: ask as many questions as possible, look at some examples/photos from the stylists to choose the one you like, and be honest and straightforward about the hair that you want-- they will accommodate. Make sure to check with the salon in advance to find out if you can do something same-day or if a piece needs to be ordered. Overall, I am very glad that I took the risk and put Noelle in charge of my hair! Highly recommend.

Although it may…read morenot not look like a full service spa from the parking lot, it is a multi layered location that you really dont want to leave once you enter. As you open the door your blood pressure immediately reduces and your senses are delighted with dimmed lighting, aromatherapy and calming background earth and music sounds. The atmosphere is full tilt ambiance - and each area of this space is geared to the service you are receiving and engages your senses in so many wonderful ways. The interaction at the front counter could not be more pleasant - they are super friendly and attentive at all times. In terms of the reservation of appointments, booking software is not something you would normally consider when rating a salon but I must give this one mention. Their reservation system handles calendars for both the Medford and Stoneham locations and the beauty is that it sends you texts to inform you of your appts and even sends gentle reminders closer to "beauty day". In my busy life, i need and love that! Full service beauty service can be found here and the expertise of the staff is top notch -- they are qualified, very professional and exuberate "positive vibes" with not only their clients but also each other (no bickering about who stole their hair brush last kinda stuff) - which is not something you wanna hear when trying to relax and get beautiful, right? Right! I do believe the staff emulate the personality of the owner, who is undeniably the most positive, upbeat individuals i have ever met. As with many other businesses this past year, she was forced to shut her doors and lose revenue, for herself and her staff, while her clients were searching for ways to remain gorgeous. She was consistently communicative to her clients and staff on social media on how and when the shop could reopen - and when she had no answers, she was quick to creatively think of ways that she could generate revenue while still serving them well. She was one of the first owners to put together little build your own beauty kits for customers and instituted a safe/minimal contact curbside delivery for those that were not able or comfortable coming into to the shop. She is so innovative with her out of the box ideas and always delivered them with a bright eyed smile. SITC is an outstanding full service salon and spa with an atmosphere that leaves you so relaxed that you practically need smelling salts to drive home. I am someone who doesn't…read morewant to make a ruse, so I will often bite my tongue when something isn't the way I want it for the sake of making sure other people are happy. And getting my hair done is no exception to that. I had been searching for a hair salon in Somerville for a few weeks now as I've been going back and forth about getting my hair cut short again. I finally made the decision and booked an appointment at Salon Luna. When I made the call to book, the person on the phone asked me what my hair was like and said he had some ideas for stylists who would be a good fit for my hair type. I LOVE that they did that. It made me really excited for my appointment. When I arrived at the salon, there were plenty of bottles of hand sanitizer and everything was very clean. Everyone was wearing a mask and clients were spaced out when hair was being cut, washed, or styled. They are not doing blow dries at the time which was also reassuring to hear that they are taking this seriously. I was seated and Sandra came to talk about what we would do with my hair. She was so incredibly friendly and had a lot of ideas and expertise on what she though would look good. We talked a little bit while she was cutting, but I didn't feel pressured at all about having to talk if I didn't want to, which was really nice. When she was done, I payed and we chatted some more about styling techniques. And then I left....but our journey doesn't end there. When I got home, my hair was starting to really dry and I didn't really love it. It was a lot longer than I had wanted and the layers weren't falling like I anticipated. I debated for a long time about whether or not I should call, especially because there are some iffy reviews on here about customer service once the client had left. But after much debate, I decided to call back. The person on the phone was so nice and said that they would absolutely be able to make an adjustment and scheduled me again with Sandra for the next day. When I came in today for the adjustment, Sandra was so kind and understanding about it. She expressed the reasons why she didn't cut it short, but said that if it's what I really wanted, then it would look great and we should go ahead and do it. The second appointment took about 20 minutes and I left feeling so so good. I was not charged a second time. I will definitely be back to Salon Luna. The customer service was awesome and Sandra was so so nice. She honestly made the whole experience worth it.
