The Long Version: So I had no idea that this bakery/cafe existed until I went to pick up food at Portugalos next door. It was actually closed at the time, but I made a mental note to come back. My mom loves baked goods so I decided to take her here. We ended up getting a box of goodies to take home. We got a pistachio croissant ($4.50), a Chantilly Cream croissant ($4.50), a white chocolate and milk chocolate donut ($4.50), 2 pistachio cannoli ($4.50 each) and 3 shell baklava ($1.75 each). The pistachio croissant was good. The filling was grounded pistachios. There could have been a bit more filling, IMO, but overall it was tasty. The Chantilly Cream croissant was dry and tasted stale to me. The cream that was exposed to air had that thick skin suggestive of an item that was sitting around for awhile :( The cream that was actually inside the croissant tasted better, but overall I was disappointed with this item. I didn't have any of the donut because my 2 little nieces shared it. They loved the donut. The cannoli was filled with whipped cream. I was so disappointed because I was expecting a ricotta cheese cream. At least the shell was crunchy and not soft. The shell-shaped baklava were ok, they weren't too sweet which I appreciated. The man serving us was pleasant and very patient with us as we asked what flavours the items were because nothing was labelled. Prices were not indicated next to the items either. The place is very cute with a bit of seating. I don't think there's anything else like it in Blackburn Hamlet. Would be a nice place for a date or to catch up with a friend. The service at this location was quick and easy because the staff served me and my family very quickly and the staff were very friendly, nice, and professional as well. The ambiance at this location was very cozy and nice because it was a very small and quiet location to peacefully enjoy a warm drink and a tasty homemade pastry treat. The location was very clean and there were no messes on the floor and the tables were very clean and spotless. The freshly made items here were cheaper than the pre-made items at Tim Hortons. The commute to this location is convenient because it is easy for Blackburn residents to walk to this location. The walk is only about 5 to 10 minutes to get to this location depending on where you live in Blackburn Hamlet which is very convenient for Blackburn residents to commute to this location. This location is very easy to access because there are multiple entrances to get into the parking lot and there is also a ton of parking spots to choose from and there is also free parking which is bonus too and this is very convenient for the people who prefer to drive to this location, but if you live close by to this location, I'd highly recommend you walk because it is only a 5 to 10 minute walk to get to this location if you live close by. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly recommend you visit this location because the service is phenomenal and the staff here are superb and the ambiance here is amazing and the food quality is excellent and the price is very reasonable and is cheaper than the price of pre-made items at the Tim Hortons across the street.

The Short Version: Bakery selling delicious rustic tasting…read morebaked goods. The Long Version: I am very familiar with the original Almanac Urban Mill and Bakery on Canotek Rd out in Gloucester. And this new location on Beech St in Little Italy offers the same quality I've come to expect. I love that they mill their own flour the old fashioned way with stones, as opposed to commercial rollers. They do not bleach their flour. And the grains they use are organic. All their items have a rustic taste to them, which I enjoy. I pretty much tried all of their items at their location in Gloucester, but at their new Little Italy location I've recently tried their croissant, blueberry lemon spelt muffin, and sourdough pizza focaccia. All fantastic. I love the tang of all their sourdough products. My only complaint would be the focaccia I had was topped with tomato sauce, cheese, olives, capers and zucchini and I found it too salty for my liking. They also do not shy away from butter and oils so the focaccia was also a bit too greasy for my tastes. However, I still enjoyed the focaccia, lol. I'm not quite sure when they opened the location in Little Italy but I discovered it in January of 2026. I think it opened at the end of 2025. The Little Italy location is more a storefront and cafe, whereas the Gloucester location is more where they bake the items and is a pickup location for online pre-orders. Although I have purchased items in the store at the Gloucester location, but this was before they opened their second location. The exterior of this location has an industrial feel, similar to their other location. Inside this location has seating whereas the other location does not. Service was courteous and efficient. It's been 13 years since my last review; they're so good that they deserve an update!…read more Such a lot has happened in that time: they were hit by a tornado, and a few years ago, the derecho ripped through the area. Jim and his wife helped hold things together in the town by doing what they do best: feeding people. They were closed for a spell until they could get things under control, then they came back! Reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends and for larger groups. Now that we are retired, we can go during the week, so we went on Wednesday. Service was great, and the food was delicious, and so is the coffee! Jim is a fount of information! We will go back.

The menu is simple and short but still has basically all the popular brunch items. I got the breakfast sandwich in both the croissant and bagel. Overall very enjoyable! The croissant was very good and buttery but it was kind of messy to eat. I would probably stick with the bagel next time! For drinks I tried one of the staff recommendations and a drip coffee. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I thought the Lilly was very good, sweet but not too heavy or sugary, but it was a little bit expensive for the price as the cup was fairly small. Price was okay overall factoring in the sandwich as well. Overall, I really enjoyed my breakfast here and would love to come back next time I'm in town!

Then they opened up a second location in Ottawa in an industrial park on Colonnade, which was much closer to home than Manotick for me. It still took me a while to make it there, but I finally did. It's a cute cafe inside, despite being in an industrial park. They sell drinks, baked goods, soups, ready to eat meals and refrigerated/bake at home meals. They are primarily a caterer, but it's nice that they have a storefront where you can grab some lunch or snacks and even dine in. Baked goods are on the pricier end like $4 for a Nanaimo Bar or dessert square. Entrees with a side salad are $10-$12 but the portions are pretty modest. However, their food is good and healthier than greasy fast food ;) I've had their sandwiches, which are tasty but way too much mayo/sauce for my liking. Their desserts are also very rich, lol. Their lasagna is good (and not too saucy). I also liked their broccoli salad (which didn't have too much dressing, which is a common compliant of mine when it comes to broccoli salad, as most places drench it in mayo). You know I love those hidden places in industrial parks, and Take Another Bite!, Ottawa location, is one of them. Free parking in front of the cafe.
