I made an appointment with PA Joe Drew at their mental health clinic 2+ Hmonths ago. I received verification of this appointment this week. Today I received a call that my appointment was canceled! The person I spoke with stated Drew was not taking new patients. Or the new patient had to live in Eagle County and be under 65y/o. None of this was disclosed when the appointment was made. I hurt my knee in a skiing accident and was brought here by ski patrol. Everyone was incredibly nice and professional. I was especially impressed by their efficiency. I was expecting to spend most of the rest of the day in the emergency room. However, despite whate seemed to be a pretty busy ER, I had my initial examination, x-rays, CT scan, consultation with the doctor, consultation with a physical therapist, fitted with a brace and crutches, and discharged - all within 2 hours. After returning home, I consulted an orthopedic doctor and he fully concurred with the assessment I was given by the Vail emergency department. read more

I was told by the desk staff at Steadman that my insurance would cover my PT appointment. A month later I received a bill from Vail Health. They charged $500 for my 45 minute PT appointment. My insurance only covered $200 understandably so I'm left with a $300 bill. I've contacted customer service which has been no help and very rude. I left a yelp review on Steadmans page which was responded to by a customer service agent named Lynda S who told me to contact the Patient Experience Team. When I called, I was told there is no such department. This company is set up to gouge both customers and insurance companies. I've never had worse customer service in my life and highly highly highly do not recommend this business. They are a perfect example of what is wrong with the medical industry today. My husband spent 9 days here following a ski accident. The trauma of the accident was nothing compared to that caused at this hospital. He could not sit or stand but was ordered to get into a wheelchair, despite excruciating pain caused by an - at that time - undiagnosed injury. He was immobile but was not offered any personal hygiene for two days because 'we didn't ask for it'. Some nurses were so lacking in compassion that I doubt they should be in such a role. My husband only saw an orthopaedic specialist dr after 8 days and only because we insisted. There was little infection control. Nurses wore numerous rings and cloth 'friendship' bracelets. And, to cap it all, the refurbed room had no working phone, TV or bedside light. Appalling. read more

From the front door to registration to nursing, PT, to the end of our journey, I was completely impressed with high standards the staff had. As a mom, feeling helpless, the staff made me feel cared for when I couldn't care for my child myself. I knew she was getting the best care. I might be a fan girl here but traveling from Austin to Vail is worth every penny and every mile for this level of medical excellence. April 2021 The er was great, handled the situation great and fast relief...but the floor where my husband had to be for severe back spasms, painful and could hardly move without crying and in pain, that's a different story. 2 days he was still in severe pain and an ortho Doc that wasn't his Doc came in the room, thank god I was there, refused to give him any more pain medication because he said "for the back spasms your having, they shouldn't be that bad and I think your faking the pain at this point. I googled your name and found information that you were involved in pain meds (over 10 yrs ago & clean everything since, he doesn't even take ibuprofen), so I feel at this point your just trying to use again" of course my husband yelled at him to get out of his room immediately he wasn't feeling safe. All along a tech was fixing his iv in the room. I demanded him leave and we were going to ama and go somewhere else. The doc yelled back and as he was leaving he called the desk for security and said he was throwing objects at the doc. Blatant LIE 6 security officers stormed the room, husband is about to stroke out hobbling to get his things to leave. I explained the situation. The tech tying to keep his job obviously said he saw and heard nothing yet was standing next to him the entire time at the iv. Management came & spoke to us, didn't really offer much help but was able to convince him to stay another night. His regular Doc had no idea this happened since he wasn't on call! The reg doc came back and was super nice, helped with everything, a true blessing. For the ortho doc that lied and was completely out of line, I don't know what ever happened to him. He should have been fired on the spot! I wish I thought to record it, but I was so upset shaking and crying as well for the audacity of a Doc! To be yelling at a patient and making up a lie. I hope he got fired! And updated me on that issue. The point...record every interaction with doctors, nurses, tech, billing, management, especially when it comes to healthcare! read more

This Hospital is not Transparent nor Diligent about knowing there infection rate!! They do not demand that Drs who work there report infections and they do not follow up with patients to find out about there experience including whether they got an infection while there. When you meet with them to discuss they are void of compassion or follow up. Wait for it........The Good: High quality PT (I should know, I'm a Mayo Clinic graduate PT that has practiced for over 26 years) We used a PT at their Howard Head Frisco location so be very careful, you don't know they are linked to Vail Health Hospital until you get the bills. The Bad: and The Ugly: I received my first bill today for my son's treatment. They billed my insurance more than $1200 for just 2 visits!! He had back and hip discomfort (no surgery, no disabilities, no injury). I now owe $611 for 2 PT visits and let me tell you as a PT this is beyond unreasonable or customary; this has got to be predatory billing. PT visits usually high end at $200 for evaluation and treatment NOT $600 - $800. I'm beyond angry, I will be taking this before the Colorado State regulatory board and beyond. And before you give me a canned response to talk to customer service, I did. They were unable to even give me a single CPT code used to assess my charges. Run, don't walk away from this company. ASK your PT in Summit or Eagle counties if they are affiliated with Vail Health Hospital before you get unethically price gouged!!! read more

Mayo wanted me to make contact and develop a relationship with with a sleep doc at high altitude and get evaluated there since I travel between 9200 feet and 2000 feet. I gave all my info and was promised a call back and someone would make an appointment in Vail with me to be seen there. Nothing happened. I called back a second time....a few weeks later....had to explain myself all over again, to the SAME WOMAN, and again was promised a call back. Nothing happened. If I could go back, I would have asked to be taken off the mountain to a ride back to my condo and waited to see a doctor in Denver. It's a year later and this hospital's billing department calls for me to pay a bill every month and when my insurance calls yo clear details on the claim their insurance department never gets back to my insurance. Absolutely the worst experience at a hospital from top to bottom. You'd think in a place like Vail, the quality of care would be incredible but it's the opposite. I've lived here for a decade and the number of horror stories I've heard and experienced myself is enough to drive over an hour to glenwood or summit county. They treat patients like cattle, misschedule appointments and have a well known reputation for incorrect billing. The only reason this place is still in business is because they're the only show in town. In the height of covid they had people there for testing all crowded in a hallway. Zero social distancing or even attempt to TRY keeping people apart. Ive legitimately never had an appointment start on time. The amount of "emergency" c-sections that occur at this hospital is another widely discussed issue among people in the community. As a local who's dealt with this place for a long time, I'd urge anyone seeking medical care of any capacity to look at other options and read the widely available reviews of this place and steer clear. Just called the ER to get some helpful advice and was totally ignored and made to feel completely irrelevant. It is hurtful to be treated like that when you feel your absolute worst. I had my 2nd Moderna vaccine and have had a very scary reaction. 24 hours of 103+ fever, excruciating headache, spontaneous nosebleed, coughed up blood, having a hard time walking and left side chest pain. She cut me off and told me she couldn't help me and to call my primary physician in the morning! She sure could have been a little more caring and compassionate for a health care provider. read more

This is in regards to the ER. Our 20-year-old son had a mountain biking accident. Our experience being cared for there was excellent. We checked in with the girl at a computer. Before she was finished with her work, a nurse was standing behind us ready to take us into our room. Two nurses and a doctor tag teamed to deaden the injured area, clean out the wound, stitch it up, and were sure we had our antibiotics and tetanus shot before we left. Our visit was during the summer season -- which is not the busy season. From start to finish, including our trip to the pharmacy, we were in and out in about 1.5 hours. Injured my shoulder due to a fall skiing at Vail last March. Was concerned about visiting the hospital due to the risks of catching other illnesses. However, Vail Health has a separate area for orthopedic injuries, so I felt more comfortable. The clinic was filled with other in ski gear, which is not surprising. I was in and out much faster than I had anticipated. They took X-Rays and diagnosed a fractured shoulder, which my local ortho concurred with. The doctor's bedside manner was excellent. I expected a huge bill after insurance kicked in, which is why I waited on submitting the review as they have a captive audience. Thankfully, that never occurred so I'm giving them 5 stars. read more

THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!! I was charged 2K total for basically an Xray and knee brace for a mild sprain. Everyone going here for minor ailments needs to know that they classify this small rinky-dink shack as an Emergency Room and will charge you as if they just cured cancer. I even asked how much this would cost debating on an urgent care shop and they represented they were basically the same thing. How in the world can someone say urgent care and emergency room costs would be similar in price. No Hospital or Emergency signs anywhere... just three people standing around. I actually took my fiance to urgent care earlier on the ski trip and it was nicer than this crap. Oh, and better yet, they charged me $300 for "physical therapy", which I absolutely didn't receive. Instead, this charge was for some cookie-cutter print out given to me of some schlub stretching and doing squats, which I also found a carbon copy of by googling 'knee stretches for sprained knee' (its about the third link down). I was in there for 30 min tops and they charged me for 30 mins of physical therapy; what a joke. Last thing about these frauds; the doctor also never spoke to me other than moving my knee cap around 1 time and said "no acl tear" and left... $250 more dollars (calculates to ~30k an hour) Only go to this place if you are dying... and even then maybe not. read more

We are locals and my husband fell breaking his arm. The radiologist read the x ray as a severe grade 2 fracture yet the on call surgeon didn't have the experience to go ahead with the surgery. Rather than telling us this (only noted in post op notes) he went ahead and operated and has caused numerous complications that has forced us to find help elsewhere. Complication after complication ensued all because of the arrogance of a local ortho surgeon who didn't want the help of someone more experienced...which they have here!! And, they're billing department needs an overall...double billed multiple times, billed for things that didn't happen! The one star of the review is for the wonderful nursing care that he received: consistent, well trained and knowledgeable. read more
