Highly recommend!

Boston Circus Guild is not your usual circus; they offer up a whimsical story of mirth laced with mischief as they weave together scenes from our humdrum lives, but then give their own twist when housewives, bored businessmen, and even a shy girl in love transform into engaging, silly, and mesmerizing performers. "Honey I'm Home" brought us housewives in the midst of daily chores, brought to life by a mischievous clown and turned into bellydancers. "Writer's Block" followed a frustrated writer through her thought process, which took her into the air with gorgeous aerial acrobatics. "Passing Time at the Office" went from death-by-paperwork to crazy juggling antics and one very surprised boss. Of course, laced throughout the show was a brouhaha of Revelers, all lending their own manic joy to some of the acts (and helping with the seamless transition through the journey). Live music performed by Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching band brings the performances to life, and sets the tone of the circus perfectly. Spot-on timing brought another dimension to the performances. ENSMB is something to behold in their crazy, eclectic genius! "Reign of Revelry" is at the Somerville Armory next weekend as well, with shows on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11 at 7:30 PM, with a family-friendly matinee on Saturday at 2 PM. Information is at www.bostoncircusguild.com. After enjoying such a cool show, I look forward to seeing more of Boston Circus Guild!

So as a former professional breakdancer (yes I'm serious) from another time, waaay before the…read morerevival of b-boy breakin or modernized x-treme breakin, I thought I'd closed the book on that part of my life a long time ago....... .... then, flash forward, I had kids.... So 2 of these kids decided they wanted to learn how to dance hip-hop and jazz, and I heard about City Lights through the family consigliere (i.e. 'wifeypoo'). At first, I was really skeptical about learning hip-hop dance in a studio (I got my background from the streets and underground clubs), and when I first walked into the place and saw an older gentleman that I figured to be somebody's grampa or a live-in security guard, I figured I'd give it maybe 5 minutes before turning around and heading home. Boy.... talk about completely missing the mark and wrongly judging a book by its cover. The guy I saw as I walked in was Duggin Hill, a long-time professional dancer/actor/instructor that had the moves of an 18 year old pro. City Lights is his non-profit dance studio for inner-city kids and teens, and I gotta tell ya...... this goes far into the realm of rhythm, stretching, warm-up, team work, and........ Discipline. Duggin was like a drill sergeant for BOTH kids and parents. That's right, the price of free instruction is parents have to participate in everything. Stretches, jumping jacks, poses, plies, spins, steps.....EVERYTHING. We weren't even past the halfway mark when my body started shaking in the weirdest places, and I thought a kidney was going to dislodge and pop out of my ass. It was the best experience I've had in a long time, and a helluva great time for the kids. Duggin was awesome, focused, dedicated, and never missed a beat. Oh, and parents, park your 'parent' attitude at the door. Duggin runs the whole thing and requires everyone to listen to HIM. Loved it, and am really looking forward to my Saturday mornings..... for the rest of my life.... :)

We hired High Line (through Night Shift Entertainment) for our wedding, and it was hands down the…read morebest decision we made. We chose the eight-piece band -- three vocalists, guitar, drums, keyboard, and a three-piece horn section -- and it was the perfect lineup. The dance floor was packed from the very first song to the last. Beyond their incredible talent, what truly impressed us was the care they put into personalizing the night. They learned several special songs just for us, including "Maybe I'm Amazed" for our first dance, all of our parent dances, and "Wagon Wheel" for a college tradition. At midnight, they even led the entire room in Happy Birthday when my husband turned 31 -- such a fun and unforgettable moment. The vocalists came out onto the dance floor throughout the night, engaging with guests and keeping the energy high. So many people told us it was the best wedding band they've ever experienced -- and we completely agree.

They were such great instructors and the class was really well structured - they covered everything from basic moves to walks, personas and twirling tassels. They kicked it off with a routine (which blew our minds and also gave a good introduction to those who hadn't seen burlesque before) and talked about burlesque as a celebration of sexuality, art, performance, etc. They coached us through practicing all the moves. It was very comfortable, not embarrassing at all. And so much fun, especially if you have a couple drinks before. The instructors rented a dance studio at the Armory in Somerville, which was a great space. I would highly recommend ensuring that the studio you rent has a mirror. I can't imagine doing the class otherwise, it really helps to see what you're doing! If you go to the Armory, check out Highland Kitchen for drinks before - it's just a couple blocks away and has an awesome cocktail menu. We only had two thoughts that they could do to improve the class - one would be to write out a list of tips for us to leave with, so we don't forget (they had so many great pointers it was hard to remember them all). And the other was maybe to teach us a routine. The end of the class was just freestyle (which was totally fun), but we agreed that it would have been fun to learn a short routine.

I was about to leave then she finally return my call asking me to come back. Hoping to get some dance move, but she had her students just rehearse the choreography that's already completed. Then, what's the point for me to come all the way from Somerville? Just to see her student rehearsing ? She might be a good dancer, but she does not respect your time. Totally waste of your time. What kind of professional do such a thing ? ? I could have gone to different teacher and closer dance school if she had been more respectful with my time to let me know that she is coming in late + she is just rehearsing, so there's no class instead of have me come to just observe free dance performance.
