McLaughlin Appliance Sales Service & Parts - Shows water cascading out of tank.

McLaughlin Appliance Sales Service & Parts

(5 reviews)

My old water heater finally died on Xmas Eve. Being broke from the holiday, I searched marketplace…read morefor a cheap replacement. I came across a listing placed by Sean Sullivan of McLaughlin Appliances. The ad read: "Brand new has a small dent in the top Hold air pressure just fine. Cash only and no delivery Price Price is firm All sales final" Asking price was $150. Great luck I thought. I picked up the water heater the day after Xmas and started to install it the following day. Following the installation instructions from the manual, I got to the stage of filling the tank. When the water reached the height of the top heating element, water started cascading out. I quickly shut the water off and opened the compartment and to my surprise, the top heating element was missing! Now the insulation is drenched and the electrical components for the bottom element are wet. Got a wet vac to dry out what I could and pointed a blast heater at it to dry it out completely. I purchased a new heating element, installed it, and continued to fill the tank only to discover the pressure relief valve leaks! I robbed the one from my old tank, finished the installation, and messaged Sean about the issue. The ad says: "Holds air fine". How can the tank hold air if one of the elements is missing and the pressure relief valve is defective and leaks? Sean saw the message but never responded. If this shady, misleading, lie by omission is typical of this company, I highly recommend going elsewhere. A "good deal" will end up being not so good and quite a headache not worth dealing with... I wish I could give this a zero star ratin. UPDATE: After reading McLaughlins reply, I feel an update is deserve. they state that Sean does not work for them nor is the water heater theirs. They also state that they went through Sean's messages and my message was no where to be found. Well, check the pics I just added. Sean saw my message and most likely deleted it before showing you his phone. He is lying to you. If you don't want to get a reputation for being shady, maybe don't have shady people doing business out of your facility.

We have used McLaughlin Appliance for years for both service and purchasing appliances. When we…read moreowned apartment buildings, we bought several used items from stoves, washer/dryers, fridges, etc. as they offered a 10% landlord discount. Even for our own houses we have purchased washer/dryers, and fridges. They purchase gently used/scratch & dent and go through them to refurbish. We have never had an issue with items purchased from them. If you need a particular item (black gas stove) and they don't have it, call and talk to Carrie or Rose and they will put you on a list if one comes up. Their inventory turns over quick so if you see it, grab it, as it will be gone while you ruminate! Sean is the service guy and he is damn good. They are honest and fairly priced on service work. He has cobbled our washer/dryer stackable back together for many years and will do his best to repair instead of try to just sell you a new one. Sean was at our house this week repairing a burner on our 20+ yr gas stove. Got it done and will be back for a part he had to order for oven on same stove. McLaughlin's is a fantastic, family run local business that we have used countless times over the years. They are the first ones we call when we need something appliance related. Can't recommend them enough!
