Words really cannot…read moredescribe how grateful we are to Goldcon - but since this is a Google review, I will try my best to paint a picture of how we worked together. Prior to selecting Goldcon, we had interviewed about 15 contractors. All of them were great sales people, they all sounded like they knew what they were doing, so narrowing it down was difficult. We eventually got it down to 3 companies (Goldcon and 2 others) and signed up to a design document with 1 of them that was not Goldcon. Typically in construction the contractors will charge a "Cost Plus" model or a "Fixed Price". For fixed price, you need to have a perfectly crafted scoping document so you know exactly what you are paying for. For "Cost Plus" you are paying a percentage on top of the cost of the project. Virtually all the contractors wanted to use a Cost Plus Model given all the uncertainties with supplies and labour. I just didn't like this idea because it didn't feel like the contractors would make an effort to negotiate the best price for us. Goldcon was one of the only contractors that was willing to do a fixed price for the build - but they were concerned that we would need to submit a variety of change orders if the supplies that we had chosen were out of stock. So we decided to settle on a fixed management fee and pay Goldcon in installments that were tied to milestones reached. As soon as we signed on the dotted lines, they got to work. And they worked fast. Trades were organized extremely efficiently, one after another. Multiple quotes were presented to us for each trade and they often were able to get their existing partners to match prices of lower price suppliers. Design ideas were brought to the table and discussed at length, but very quickly and efficiently. Communication was effortless, we setup a WhatsApp group and kept a history of all the things we discussed. When we had a difference of opinion, they always reverted back to "It's your house, you have whatever you like, but we just think XYZ would make the most sense". This was reassuring to us and most of the times we ended up going with their suggestions and it paid off. At no point in the process did we feel like we were being bullied into doing something or were we uncomfortable with the process. So overall, there are 100's of reasons to choose Goldcon and ZERO reasons to work with someone else. If you are looking for a builder for a new house or to do a larger renovation, Goldcon is the only company that I would recommend. The carpet in the apartment was really old and the bathroom needed a new vanity. Kaveh helped me pick out the laminate flooring that would look good and that I didn't have to spend and arm and leg to get. They quickly took out the disgusting old carpet and installed the new flooring which looks great. Second, they took out the old rusted vanity and added a new vanity which really makes my fiancé happy. I love coming to a home which I can be comfortable in and a home that looks good. Is it possible to find a 5-star contractor? Well, I honestly thought that the answer was NO until I…read moremet Steve. I am a picky person with background in Architecture and Design. A lazy rushed contractor doesn't work for me. After so many frustrations and searches for the perfect contractor, I randomly found Steve. Basically when I searched for a contractor to renovate my two nasty bathrooms and fix all the leaking problems that had happened for the past 18 years, I came up with a short list of contractors. I had met a few of them, but when I met Steve for a quick chat, I felt that was the guy! He seemed to be so proactive, technical, intelligent and clever. He was the person I wanted: I guy with good eyes for great finishing, respecting what the client wants and, the main thing, focusing on solving real problems and not just talking about pretty light fixtures. And I gladly hired him right away! My 2 bathrooms look so perfect! All the small details where carefully done and in the way I wanted. Always sharing the possible problems and solutions. Steve not only fixed all the plumbing, electrical and structural problems, but upgraded everything for high end quality service and products. And more... he did not only beautifully renovate our bathroom, but figured out problems in my building that existed for at least the last 10 years! Steve became popular among my neighbors and everybody loved his presence in the building. Not only because he is a such a good professional guy that helped the neighbors, but because he was nice, pleasant and honest person that everybody was glad to see around. Yes, that's Steve. Some even said Steve felt like part of the family! He is also a very clean contractor. The reno happened while we were living in the condo. As he understands well how physics works, he knew exactly what to do to not spread dust to the rest of the areas like living room and bedrooms. Yup. Sounds impossible, but that happened. When he was producing dust, he always vacuumed everything at the end of the day. Steve had free access to my condo for several months and I fully trusted in him. He respected the time to come to our place and leave. Finally, the reno took longer than I thought, but at the end of the day, it is totally understandable when he works by himself always making sure that he is doing his best and also making sure I was happy with his work. I'd would rather going through a long reno with someone that I fully trust than 10 strangers doing whatever work to finish everything in a month, so 10 years later you would have to deal with problems. That is not an option for me at all. Not even if I was going to sell my place right after. I wish everybody thought the same way, but, I know, if they did, it would be hard to find a second Steve in this city. :) That's all. Steve, thanks for everything!

It is unacceptable to drag this work out for as long as possible. My advice to them: Work on one balcony, FINISH IT, and MOVE ON. Their work has been left unfinished for nearly two weeks. Not to mention the 110dB jackhammer noises that they insist on carrying on with at 6pm on a Friday evening, probably because they don't start work until they feel like it -- usually anywhere from 11am to 2pm. I am in charge of hiring contractors on a regular basis and these guys are some of the worst I have ever seen.

The first time, they were the first store we went to and we would dub them later "the expensive flooring store." The second time was to book our floor install because, as it turned out, they were not the most expensive at all. In fact, they had the floor we WANTED at the price we NEEDED. A few general comments: 1. They have a full range of products - so talk to them, they will help you narrow down what is best for your particular conditions. 2. We worked with Garth Burak who was very, very helpful and super responsive to inquiries. 3. THEIR INSTALL TEAM WAS DUCKING AWESOME. Fransico was THE MAN and had more hustle in his baby finger than most people have in their whole body. He busted his but to get the demo done in a day. Huge. KUDOS.
